Two major housing projects for Bath Estate are expected to get underway before the end of the year, according to Roseau South parliamentarian Ambrose George, the information minister.
He says the coming projects, which fall under the government’s wider Housing Revolution Programme, are in keeping with the governing Dominica Labour Party’s thrust to provide adequate, suitable, equitable housing.
“You may have heard of the two areas which have been selected for the new housing apartments which will be built commencing sometime this year. One is at the old site of the Survey’s department and the other one is the playing field in Elmshall located close to the river,” the MP said.
He said the proposed new housing projects for Bath Estate are part of ongoing initiatives to improve the housing conditions of the poor and underprivileged in rural communities across the island.
“The designs are very advanced and very soon before year end we will see the commencement of the construction of those apartment buildings,” George said.
“I know there are several young people in particular from the Bath Estate and adjoining areas that will benefit from those new apartment buildings.
The two housing projects will be constructed on Government owned lands.
The Roseau South MP didn’t say how much the projects will cost.
but when will the government see that ministry building need a face lift.
what they suggest again? Bath estate and Elmshall? The playing field in Elmshall is not a good place at all to put up houses, why? next to the river, the river banks always overflowing and there is very much a waterlog place. Why they dont suggest the place at the end of Elmshall where all the hatians putting of shacks almost every day?

i hope you will be able to afford one..as a matter of fact buy your own computer and stop using you neighbor computer
I hope de people that are on the waiting list for years are given priority, some people have two and three houses and they still looking for one for their unborn child. Dominicans residence in Dominica must be given priority.
So wht becomes of the playing field? What are the youth going to do with their spare time? Where will the footballa games be held? I suggest RECONSIDERING that area
Armbrose George ! this is a big mistake. The Charlotte Valley in the Newtown area, have been purchased by the previous govt. for housing. Instead of building there you are going to build in bath estate which is congested with about 4 existing housing projects situated there.
Newtown is in dire need of expansion, so do the moral thing and start developing the land for sale as lots and for housing projects also.
shut the hell up moriheil ueshina where ever u leaving in the usa is among bed bugs and roaches and maybe your yard dirty with old bottle know your place ,,,, moriheil ueshiba
what happened to the housing scheme that was suppose to be built along the bath estate river a few years ago, we still waiting on that one wii
which part of the BE river? everywhere in Estate is housing schemes or building projects wateva u want to call them
Bath estate encore!!!…. heading for over crowding!
Thumbs up for the project but please find another location.
It’s great to hear that affordable housing is a priority for helping those in need. But the idea of building housing projects is a failure. Even the U.S. No longer builds housing projects as they just become breeding grounds for gangs, crime and violence. Dominica you do NOT need housing projects to help those that need affordable housing. It will be a complete disgrace to your country and the people forced to live there will suffer for it.
they built affordable houses in layou for the people of layou, but the residence of layou could not afford to pay for these houses
well said mp… good stuff… i got the impression from previous publications that they were for government clerks and the likes of government workers
what housing projects? I was in Dominica last year and the amount of poor people i see living in pound next to the financial centre, close to the stadium, i was shocked, not to mention the old houses around roseau and i thought they say dem fellas doing alot.
Aren’t there poor people the world over? aren’t there old houses the world over? Do we not see umemployed people in the developed world. For some reason you can never find a single good thing to say about Dominica. Why bother identify with the island?
tell people to do farming and stop smoking in the pond area.
Alas, there are some old houses in roseau. I mean its a total disgrace. I think the housing revolution should look to replace those people and upgrade the area. I mean all you have to do is look down from any tall building in town and you will see the dilapidated houses. It’s a crying shame. It’s really bad. Real bad.
Tear them down to do what? a man’s home is his catle. Even the “old building” upon which you look down have thier place in making Roseau what it is. You all believe in tearing down too much in that country!
the old buildings are protected under the historic site law
Here we go again,AMBROS is announcing to Dominicans news of a housing scheme, but he doesn’t know how much it will cost.Isn’t about time them Labor fellars give out proper information.According to Mr. Edison James these Labor boys must stop doing things in Dominica vie te vie.
It was the same we heard 2005 just before the gen; election.and again before 2009 that big poster was place before the bridge, Is he trying to tell us an election is on it way? 2013;
I do hope that some of the silver lake residents will be part of those who will get a home and not who the party choses. Are there any urban planners involved in this project?? I have issue with building along waterways, and see we claim to be a nature island, special consideration should be given to protecting waterways.
thank god .good work Mr George and we love you bath estate resident
You simple eh, for that announcement you so excited.. WE WHO? speak for yourself! Ambrose and government are doing exactly what they were elected to do. I commend them for taking the step and hope to see it come to fruition, but what is the praise and arse kissing for again?
Original Eagle-Eye: «Ambrose and government are doing exactly what they were elected to do.»
Ah yes! It is heartening to see one of you admit that the DLP administration is honouring its contract with the Dominican people. A government that works for all.
Um last checked people applaud others for doing what they suppose to do … if they didnt do what they were placed there to do you’d complain but hey i guess you’re one of those
Peeping Tom ..”one of YOU..”? I tired tell you I not you that supporting your BOY just like that you know because you can get free vep and VIP seat in stadium you know. and the person waiting for the thing sakway twete!
If they doing I will say they doing. However governments are elected to work for and with the nationals, not to be given a pat on the back for the simplest gesture towards doing the deed. When the project is on stream Yours Truly will give flowers, until then it’s just a verbal step in the right direction and for that even I can be happy.
Papa met…we have enough houses in Bath Estate… we don’t need anymore residents…the place is already over crowded…is that the best thing you find to do for Bath Estate Ambrose…tackle the drug and criminal activity taking place in Bath Estate…we doh need more houses or apartments in that area please…
I totally agree with you!!!!!!!!!!!!
the man need people to win his sit
