The residents and visitors to the beach at St. David’s Bay, Castle Bruce will soon see improvement on the Bayfront thanks to a grant from the Global Environment Facility Small Grant Project (GEF SGP).
Recently a Memorandum of Agreement was signed between the GEF SGP Office for Project Services and Castle Bruce Tourism Association Inc.
The grant, once received, will go towards the first phase of the bay front enhancement program planned by the Association.
Programs under the grant include: Environment education and awareness for the community, replanting of trees along the bayfront to the river mouth and to Lia river, landscaping, construction of two sanitary facilities, a gazebo, peace park and two picnic areas, a tarish and pebble path to the river mouth, benches along the bay front to the rivermouth extending to Lia river, barbeque stands, craft and food stalls, berth for hikers to rest, tourist guide training, among others.
On Wednesday the local tourism organization met with Parliamentary Representative Johnson Drigo and Village Council for an on site visit at the Bayfront.
Drigo and the Chairlady of the Council Angelica Gasper were shown a draft design planned for the area.
Both Drigo and Gasper have pledged their support to the Castle Bruce Tourism Association Inc to make the project a reality.
A stakeholders meeting, which will include relevant government Departments and Agencies, is scheduled for Friday, March 27 2015 from 3:00 pm at the Sea Breeze Inn, Bayfront, Castle Bruce.
What about the grand development that was on display in the health center by Ms. Bannis.
the name castle Bruce came about when one of the slave masters from scott land name david bruce was there and had them build a castle which he lived in which is where the C.U.M church is located right now so so that village is called castle bruce because it had a castle there. this thoery is right but the name of the slave master not sure but his last name was bruce . NOW the name I call it is Emerald village and I think its the best name.
Development of the bayfront is not a political thing
HMMMM funny how that election around the corner talk went away, now the talk is after 15yrs this and that well it is being done, we can only go up from here, let your hearts not be troubled, like the PM would say.
What I can state is, it is a beautiful beach and the area should be cultivated for also tourism and other visitors. Pleased to know that this will be done.
This all sounds very good. I really hope they actually get the money to go ahead with all these improvements. Would they also consider putting up WARNING signs along the beach regarding the strong currents. And perhaps a WARNING sign at the river regarding flash floods. Just to make the tourist aware of how dangerous it can be.
15 years in power and no international airport .by all means beautify Castle Bruce but until they build the international airport Dominica will be going in circles. When this clown of a PM finally gets his act together it will be election time.
Include life guard quarters, and proper warning signs. We go see with DrigoOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOd!!!!
Never knew Castle Bruce had a tourism association. News to my ears. Good initiative but I just hope it does not fall on death ears.
Do you do mean ‘deaf’ ears?
I made a change and forgot to delete the second “do”. Sorry! So much for perfection.
Good going Castle Bruce. By the way I wonder how this village got the name Castle Bruce?
http://www.lennoxhonychurch.com/article.cfm?id=381 provides good historical information
Thank you sir…
That picture showing the islet from Jalousie look more like it was either taken where the school is today (glugloo) or maybe by Babysin old house above Salomon close to Stan……. and Sabrine, behind Ma- Walton house
Nonetheless, C/Bruce is so rich in history. Wow!! But how Ralph and Deetain come to own tranto huh?
Assertive, NOT Aggressive!
This is an excellent and wise question. I think you are the first person who thought of it.
Some names as this one we are not well-versed about and how they were derived.
Our intelligent historian, Lennox Honychurch could do a research (if he can) pertaining to the names of every town and village in Dominica and the reason for their names. Surely, there is some history to them.
OK, Lennox? The idea crossed my mind. Here is another book for you to write and one I am certain D/cans and non-Dominicans would be interested in. This would be another feather in the cap for also Dominica. It probably could be a first one in the Region or anywhere else in the world.
Hope LaPlaine is taking note instead of remaining so divided. The village that used to be the Cinderella of the East has now become a divided community because of politics. What a shame!
The poor in Laplaine were bought by Skerrit for rum,not their fault.
I feel sorry for you for one day you will pay for “your idle words” which lack compassion, respect and tact. It boils down to lack of love and consideration for the feeling of others. You never have anything kind and encouraging to state. Pity for you!
Is it possible to upload a copy of the draft design? The project sounds wonderful. Also curious with cost associated with the proposed project.
