Jamaica signs agreement on Economic and Technical Cooperation with China

Minister of Industry, Investment and Commerce, Dr. Christopher Tufton, yesterday presented a raft of large-scale Jamaican investment projects to Chinese government officials and investors, and also signed an agreement on Economic and Technical Cooperation between the Government of Jamaican and the People’s Republic of China at the 3rd China-Caribbean Economic Forum in Port of Spain, Trinidad & Tobago.

During his address at the forum, Minister Tufton indicated Jamaica’s commitment to strengthening the relationship between the Caribbean and China, and identified the country’s tourism, bauxite/mining, light manufacturing; agro-processing and telecoms sectors as critical areas that presented possibilities for business collaboration and investment.

“The relationship between Jamaica and China has gotten better over the years and it is now at a point where we feel extremely comfortable in understanding and respecting each other’s cultures and leveraging the respect and knowledge that we have for each other towards enhancing economic development and creating opportunities for both Jamaica and China,” stated Minister Tufton.
