The King’s Hill Development Committee continued their clean up and beautification campaign of the community of King’s Hill by engaging in a painting project of their newly renovated Community Center in Center Street/Lower King’s Hill. Funds for the renovation of the center were obtained through a project proposal submitted by the group to their Parliamentary Representative, Hon. Ambrose George, in his Ministry of Constituency Empowerment.
On Sunday 13th March, 2011 the intention of the executive of the committee and a small group of hardworking individuals from King’s Hill was to paint inside and outside of the building. However the group decided to uplift the general surroundings by removing dead leaves, branches and other garbage from the area. The guttering for the building was also fitted that day.
The Community Center is scheduled to be opened by April month-end. This will provide a location for the young people of King’s Hill to socialize, raise funds, host meetings and engage in skills training programs.
This is not the first project undertaken by this group. From their revitalization in late 2010 they’ve moved from a different street in the community every other Sunday on a beautification campaign by removing dead and overlying trees and branches, weeding out excessive and unsightly grass and clearing gutters. In collaboration with the Roseau City Council, the group undertook a dry goods collection in the community in February 2011. Through donations received from committee members a presentation of a food hamper was made to one of the community’s elders on her 94th birthday in December 2010.
Other projects carded for the near future include cleaning of the Military Cemetery in Upper King’s Hill, removal of derelict and abandoned vehicles throughout the streets of the community and naming and erecting signs for the streets of King’s Hill.
Community members are encouraged to be a part of the cleanup campaign by keeping their direct surroundings clean and also coming out to lend support at larger community projects.

All dirty politics… Ambrose George what koshoni issue that. How many young men on drugs and unemployed that need to be rehabilitated. kigns hill has always had a group of people assisting voluntarily to keep the place clean. get the druggies out of the street. That is the challenge.
