LIAT night landing coming soon

Regional air carrier LIAT may finally begin scheduled night flights to Dominica’s Melville Hall airport in the next few weeks.

The airline’s chief executive officer Brian Challenger told state radio DBS that in “another few weeks, we will be seeing scheduled night landings into Dominica; this certainly is our hope and our goal”.

Dominica ushered in night landing operations at Melville Hall in August 2010 with air carriers LIAT and WINAIR to mark the historic occasion.

LIAT has since then spoken of challenges in finalizing its night schedule for Dominica; however, Challenger said Tuesday, the airline has been in discussions with authorities from Dominica and the Eastern Caribbean Civil Aviation Authority (ECCAA) to remedy technical matters.

“There were some technical issues which needed to be sorted out, particularly in terms of the Civil Aviation Authority, that process is well in hand; we’re confident that we are on our way there to a resolution,” Challenger said.

Only one word in this entire statement has any meaning, “May.” I thought this was a done deal with the first Night Landing Flight into Melville Hall a few months ago. Wow!

soon still? i thought that was suppose to start since last year september! when will we as dominica open our eyes, and remove the ‘stupid’ shades that we have over them ans see the light,

I understand your concern but many of us are optimistic. MAY must be used because the process is ongoing and there must be satisfaction that your plans are ready to kick off.

ANOTHER FEW WEEKS, we will be seeing scheduled night landings into Dominica; this certainly is OUR HOPE AND OUR GOAL. Law_Student, these people are professionals and will deal with matters of tenchnology in a tentative manner untill they are satisfied that the reality is at hand.

I have no qualms with the choice of words.

If I remember correctly, LIAT has to release some of its staff. As I mentioned I would like night landing to become a reality, however, it makes so sense to start to celebrate, then it doesn’t come through as planned. We had a night landing open ceremony last year and of course we saw the set backs.

‘Regional air carrier LIAT MAY finally begin scheduled night flights to Dominica’s Melville Hall airport in the next few weeks.’

The key word here is ‘MAY.’ We have to be careful when we hear these terms. My fellow Dominicans, I would love for us to have night landing; it would ease many inconveniences for our citizens. I pray it comes through and I would like to thank all those who are working very diligently so that it comes through. When or if night landing becomes a reality, every Dominican or foreigner will enjoy the conveniences.

“ANOTHER FEW WEEKS, we will be seeing scheduled night landings into Dominica; this certainly is OUR HOPE AND OUR GOAL” Once again we see the words that are capitalized are not concrete. Yes we must be hopeful however, we should not celebrate too quickly.

Thus discussions are ongoing, nothing has been definite. Please my people do not celebrate once again too quickly.

i understand what you saying but who is going to maintain an international airport in dominica? do you actually understand the costs? look Antigua need help, and their tourist industry is higher than ours. thing is an international airport is so much money to maintain the government would be making a loss and would probably have to raise taxes or look for a country to maintain it as a favor. and the way dominicans act when countries help us i guess that is out the question completely

    February 2, 2011

What a waste of money and time. I am not here to poke fun at the Night Landing roller coaster. The attainment of the night landing will not create any significant improvement to our economy. From a novice perspective – I would prefer start with the capability of accommodating air buses while maintaining the LIAT schedule. This is simple logic. If we are to become a formidable competitor in regional tourism the night landing that we are so worked about is not going to take us to where we can compete. The way I see it is that the night landing excitement is only for Dominicans coming home for a fete and are forced to stay overnight in Antigua or Barbados. I am sure that from a business perspective LIAT will not incorporate night flights until the business is there. Come festival and carnival LIAT may extend the courtesy.
If we demand regular night flights into Dominica then we must be prepared to pay much higher prices simply because LIAT will need to offset the cost of landing costs not withstanding the low volume of passengers destined to Dominica.
My assessment is based on reality not politics. Even while I hang on to optimism I see the coming of Night Landing as only a capability and not necessarily a transformation of air traffic volume in and out of Dominica. As I embrace optimism I hope that one day the powers that be will take a drink of reality and recognize that our only way out of the doldrums is to build an international standard airport in Dominica.

Dcans really need to learn how to let go of politics and grow up eh. I’m here saying this everyday. I dot understand how people who use the Internet are backward thinking. Do some researh before talking.

Liat and Dominica gov are two separate entities. Liat will land in Dominica at night as lon as Dominica can continuously full up the aircrafts. Afterall it is a profit run organisation. Dominica gov has no say in how Liat run their airline apart from if they put a ban on them.

Now y would the government go through all that problems to bring night landing and not look for it to be done round the clock? I mean it is getting embarrassing the way some Dominicans think jus because their mind is so utterly clouded by politics. Shameful!

Plus, any project in the world has rewards and set backs. People saying so long they day night landing blah blah. Every project has to be right before the opening and their are aviation rules to follow. Take a simple project like buildin your home. When u think u complete building that’s when u discover u have problems that need addressing. It will set u bk both moving in time and extra costs. And that’s with most projects.

So Dominicans, my people, my brothers and sisters. Please grow up and read, travel if u can and enlighten yourself so your statements are more accurate and mature.

And I know that here are signs of corruption in Dca, I can’t say yes or no because no hard eveidence, facts or convictions have been brought against anyone. So I’m watching and commenting on the good when I see it

And there u have it. The airline deliver on it’s promise and the government (doesn’t matter which one) made a way for Dominica to move

Would you prefer for them to rush into launching this service with total disregard for all matters of required standards and procedure not to mention safety and the additional training of all their pilots for them to become better experienced with the Dominica terrain challenges!!

Why can’t we all be a little more positive and try and move forward together.

      Peace.

Some people just lack common sense and the means to stop being bias. That’s all. Politics in Dominicans killing their judgement and as a result they killing their own country by refusing to contribute towards its development. Governments don’t develop countries, investirs and it’s people do. Governments can only give a means for success. It’s up to the people to use it. And from the look of it, and although it is sad, yes many domincans challenged when it comes to common sense

You are so right. Politics is the order of the day. While some work to remain in office, some asked for things and if they noticed that it may be forthcoming they turn around and say” oh you see now they doing this or so long we should have had that.” We are just so politically sick in this country that it ;s not funny at all. God help us.
