A problem that has been affecting bus drivers plying the Marigot to Londonderry route will soon be solved.
Public Works Minister, Ian Pinard, has said his ministry plans to construct wave breakers behind the seawall in the area to prevent sea water from invading the road.
The ministry should receive the final estimate later this week to determine the actual cost of the project, according to Pinard.
“We are waiting for the company we sent to Marigot to do the estimates for us, they have done all the necessary groundwork,” he said. “They have gone on the seaside, the Atlantic side, made the necessary measurements of the coastal area.”
The project is said to be an expensive one and according to Pinard, “We want to make sure that we do everything properly and do it the right way.”
Last month, bus drivers and others who use that route staged protest action near the Douglas- Charles Airport because the sea has breached the wall in the area causing seawater to invade the road.
They said for years the seawater has been damaging their vehicles and were demanding that the government do something about the situation.
Your article stated bus drivers plying the Marigot to Londonderry route…..come on…this problem affects all motorists using this road…ALL from anywhere in Dominica. I hope the “soon” mentioned will not just before the next election. But of course if that’s going to be the case the wall will fall by then, so we the drivers will have no road to drive on or maybe they may consider for traffic to move across the runway
give public works the job!
This are words just to calm the people of the area. The Govt has no money and if it was that simple, they would have attempted it already. Mark my words people, we have a Govt that speaks and say and do nothing.
Be patient drivers. Something is being done. As the saying, Rome was not built in a day.
It was not necessary to stage a protest. A respectable and strong-worded writing would have have sufficed.
Do you not know the pen is mightier than the sword? Those who plan to stage a protest should consider this as a first avenue to amicably pursue.
You that is not true in Dominica. When we are dissatisfied with things and complain or protest, it is said wait for elections to take legitimate action.
When elections come, our “pens” mean nothing because the results get rigged.
So tell me otherwise.
How soon will it be? Because we are all waiting but we can’t wait in vain. Allso I hope this isn’t just a promise you can’t fullfill mr Pinard.
Heard this before. DNO the word “Soon” means what. So often we see this expression in headlines carrying government promises yet soon never comes.
In Dominica soon is really room for politicians to pooom.
Black Moore promised that the problem would be solved. Now knowing how our government system functions there I would be pleasantly surprise to see anything happening at the location.
cannot believe what i am reading
that problem exist for so long and there was no estimates already existing to solve that problem? it is undeliverable
Enough of the Empty Promises we want to see ACTION! The sooner the better.
I sincerely hope that company does not turn out to be Offshore Civil & Marine Inc., who seem to be mr. Skerrit’s favourite construction company ( apart fro Gaddarkhan, with whom they partner sometimes). I am saying this because that is the same company that built that troublesome seawall at the the bottom of the runway in the first place.
You need the work to be done but still you are complaining who is going to be the contractor , what sense does that make?
That does make sense BEB if it is the same contractor that did a poor job in the first place. Be honest if you had a builder that gave you a leaky roof , would you ask him to come back to fix it and pay him again? I guess not.
well if they built it,should not they remedy it,well sah you all logic does be of the wall.
If that is so they should do it free of charge and not touch another U.S. $25 million like they allegedly did last time.
Why can’t you say thank you? Stop complaining and let the work go on!
Depend on someone as you to be negative as always.
