NCCU assists needy members

NCCU President Dexter Ducreay handing over donation for Ursula Daley

Three members of the National Co-operative Credit Union (NCCU) will be better able to care for themselves thanks to significant donations from the institution that are sure to assist with improving their lives.

Eighty-six year old Gladys Williams was the recipient of $5,000 towards the construction of a new home, upon recommendation from the Bellevue Chopin village council. Receiving the check on behalf of Williams, Chairman of the Bellevue Chopin village council Cecil Shillingford commended the work of the NCCU in this effort.

Shillingford, who himself has pledged to donate all the roofing material to Williams’ structure, said, “Let me on behalf of Williams and the council thank the NCCU for this timely intervention in assisting this elderly lady to have a more comfortable place of abode. The council has been concerned about the living conditions of many of our villagers and we have embarked upon a fund-raising drive to see how we can assist these people. I’m very happy that the NCCU would come forward and make such a sizable contribution. I would just like to call on the other banking institutions and other corporate entities to [make similar contributions].”

Ursula Daley of Kingshill and Islene Harry of Salisbury both received contributions towards medical expenses for major procedures. Daley received a donation of €1,000 to assist with knee replacement surgery, while Harry received $2,500 towards a brain tumor removal.

A representative for Daley said, “I would like to give a heartfelt thank you to the entire board of the NCCU for assisting with this procedure. It is well needed and on behalf of myself and my entire family, I just want to say thank you.”

Harry also expressed gratitude for the contribution to her procedure. She said, “I would like to say a special thank you to the NCCU board and staff for considering me for this donation.”

I just think that certain things should not be reported as NEWS. Charity acts of kindness donot really count as news…I mean, is it really “important” and “interesting” current affairs to know that an institution assists someone with a personal situation?

    I don’t know…

My thought exactly. Do it from your heart. What are they getting from mentioning these people names?

Yes, we have to encourage business to give back to the community. The community should patronize the businesses that give back. The free publicity is also good for these businesses. After all, they could have used that money to pay for advertizing instead. Keep up the good work, Mr. Ducreay and NCCU. That’s a blessing to the recipients.

Great work Dexter – a man like you got the citizens in mind unlike those who are in the process of building $27m palace.
