Heads of governments of the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) have signed the treaty establishing the OECS economic union in St. Lucia.
The treaty makes way for a single economic space in the sub-region. “Without the signing of the treaty, there’s nothing else one can do to advance the process of the creation of the single economic space,” Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit said. He however underscored that the signing does not signify an end to the integration process.
“The signing is not a means to an end at all. We have to certainly continue the process of working towards fuller integration,” he stated.
The Dominica leader expects all OECS citizens to reap benefits from the OECS economic union once implemented properly.
“The signing of the treaty on the 18th of June is a demonstration of our seriousness and our desire to take the process forward,” he added.
Long live the OECS, now lets try to get rid of the “crab in a barrel stigma,” yes we little ones can, without CARICRAP and ALBA. I am so happy for our people.
