Over $600,000 for small business development in Colihaut constituency

Catherine Daniel is MP for the Colihaut Constituency

Member of Parliament for the Colihaut Constituency, Catherine Daniel, has revealed that over $600,000 has been provided for small business development in the constituency.

Speaking recently, Daniel said that “for the month of June alone” a total of $677,903 will be distributed to the Colihaut constituency.

She encouraged those who need assistance to come forward and ask for it.

“You have to talk. You cannot just sit back and say I will not get. Ask and you shall receive the Bible says. You cannot expect a Pal Rep to imagine what you want or just see you and think of what you want. Unless you ask, a Pal Rep will not know your specific needs,” she said.

In addition to this funding, Daniel also revealed that financing will be allocated for housing development in the Colihaut constituency as well.

“Not only small business we are addressing today, but we also have some housing for those who did not get in 2016. You all will be getting the cheques. I also want to tell you all, I also have, maybe by next week, $200,000 from Constituency Empowerment money which will also meet some housing needs,” she remarked.

She noted that out of this $200,000 dollars, Colihaut will be getting $108,000 for housing.

Hello and good evening my people. Well Ms Daniel keep fulling our people but just remember that most of the smart citizens already left Dominica . Keep buying votes and soon you will be the only one there to vote for yourself because CBI money is drying up. What business can one start with ten thousand dollars if it’s that much.

Every village, town, hamlet will be impacted by the CBI. Those who don’t get is probably because they are to ashamed to go for it because they criticize it right left and center. Look now we know about campaign money and Financial Times rate Dominica CBI program me as the best in the world. All UWP and their cronies and supporters should bury their heads in the sand. Now we know why Roseau was burnt on D Day.

      • “Those who don’t get is probably because they are to ashamed to go for it because they criticize it right left and center. ”

You are so ignorant, if you were told to kill your mother to “get” as people like you like to receive bribes rather than demand work (employment) to earn a living, you do not mind them selling passports as long as you “get” a few dollars in bribe you will vote for them.

Curse on stupid people like you, you all will forever be poor; bunch greedy waste of time idiots!

    what about the other villages,??/hmm

  6. Catherine, let’s analyze this, and exposed some fantasy, and lies; and prove how ignorant you people are, when you weave your tangled web of lies believing you are fooling someone besides yourself! Blackmoore boast he has $250,000.00 dollars to give to 37 people in Campbell to start small business. So, according to Blackmoore each of the 37 people will each receive $6,756.76 cents.

Prior to his promises we read the Carib chief Darroux said he too have $500,000.00 to give to a 150 people in his tribe: that means each person will receive $3,333.33 to also start small business.

Now here comes your notorious lies and confusion Catharine!

“Not only small business we are addressing today, but we also have some housing for those who did not get in 2016. You all will be getting the cheques. I also want to tell you all, I also have, maybe by next week, $200,000 from Constituency Empowerment money which will also meet some housing needs,” she remarked.

“She noted that out of this $200,000 dollars, Colihaut will be getting $108,000 for housing.” That’s confusion right? In one voice she is talking about $600,000.00 dollars, and in the same breath this lady is talking some other crap! She quotes the Bible, but how many people in Dominica can ask that woman for an honest job and get it from her? The Bible said yes, However, if God was a bad Sprit, he would have choked you Cathrine with your own lying tongue!

You know $600.000.00 + $500,000.00 + $250,000,00 = $1,350,000.00, that seems enough to seriously start a business. If you all are serious, instead of talking fart, about developing small business, couldn’t you liars thought of forming a corporation and think of organizing an industry, producing some sort of commodity that could be manufactured in the country, and export into some market which indeed would generate revenue, into the country, and providing more jobs, than the nonsense you all are talking…

    • Finally:

Bribing people with a fist full of dollars will not create not one job, the majority of that money will remain in the ministers pocket, that is your portion in the brown paper bag from under the table, that’s yours who do not have a passport sale connection!

You all babbles about small business, however there are no details and to what small business you hope to develop in each constituency. This is bogus! There are so many deceitful glitch and lies in what you said, someone like you should not mention God, or perhaps you should define the God you are referring to, because I deem you kind a tool of Satan!

Refrain from mentioning God in your politics, because he does not play politics, corrupted politics at that!

The mere fact that you’re asking people to come and get money is horrible. Whether it’s a small business or a larger establishment, entrepreneurs plan and study, before funding is allocated. Merely handing out monies to villagers will not reduce poverty one bit. After this money is given out, the same nagging issues will remain for the foreseeable future. Is the NDFD involved and will they be providing technical support to those small business owners if needed? Probably not. This is simply a cash give away to the Red Supporters. That’s it.

The tax base in Colihaut is small, almost non-existent and dying. Smart Bureaucrats recognize these trends and take long term steps to address these issues. That’s why the developed countries replenish their population every 30 years. The Caribbean and Dominica in particular refuses to embark upon long term sustainable development for its citizens. This paltry sum of money will do absolutely nothing for the long term sustainability and development of Colihaut. This is the poverty model being repeated by yet another governmental program that will produce next to nothing. How many sustainable jobs can this money create? It will satisfy the immediate needs of Red supporters, but nothing more than that will be accomplished.

Here’s an idea for Colihaut. Excavate the rock on the Eastern side of the village close to the main road. Provide incentives for locals and foreigners to build luxury condos and Time Share apartments in the area. Add an updated urgent care center and get rid of the Health Center. Add biking and roller blading along the highway with a new retaining wall on the Western end. Use the beach nearby to build an entertainment area for tourist. In so doing, you will be generating revenue for the area on fees and taxes collected. This in turn will provide long term jobs for villagers and opportunities for growth and future development.

More bad idea, followed by bad policies. Does the village of Colihaut have a working garbage truck and proper garbage disposal in place? It’s great that you guys want to share out the CBI Monies like hot bread with butter after all and sundry placed tremendous pressure on you, but these latest slate of policy decisions that I’ve seen will not villagers one bit. It’s unsustainable.

There are two garbagge collection points in the Community and the NEP is doing a good job. If you want some of this CBI money, submit your proposal or maybe you are bankrupt of ideas. If you invest the money given to you and you make profit anf reinvest in your business how can you say it is not sustaainable?. Was the money taken from my salary and not paid to Social Security sustainable. I guess you are just one of those sour grapes.

Interesting comments from the Parl Rep, One can only conclude, Only in Dominica!! Most funding for businesses seem to be granted after the development and submission of a feasible business plan, but in our government’s case, they say simply come and ask!!! How ridiculous!!! Most would have thought that if the government was really interested in developing the potential business men/women, they would have devolved that responsibility to a committee/body to oversee applications. Additionally, the government would encourage would be applicants to develop a business plan. The responsible committee would be involved in helping the potential business men/women in writing business plans and the government instead of shouting out how much money they have issued would be talking about the activity of the committee.

Not only would this approach help individual development by teaching the preparation and submission of business plans but it would protect this from political interference.

, the It is troubling that since the CBI programme was given international exposure earlier this year, Monies reportedly coming from the programme has been flooding into Dominica. The obvious question is where were the funds previously and were it not for the international exposure what would have become of these funds?
More troubling seems to be the new practice by the current administration shouting from the hills, the dales, the roof tops and the valleys about the volume of funds that they are now making available all around the country for a variety of purposes. My question though is, Who is keeping records and who is overseeing the accounting for the expenditure of these sums? Is there an audit process ensuring that the monies released are going to the purpose for which they are intended? Is there a plan for a quarterly or annual report on the use of the monies? Who is taking responsibility? Will an official enquiry become necessary in the not too distant future?

Catherine, how in Jusu’s name can you use monies from Constituency Empowerment for housing? I was of the view that monies provided from this ministry went towards development of the COMMUNITY. Housing monies should be derived from the Ministry of HOUSING??!! Or, maybe I am mistaken.
I just want to say also that with all these monies allocated for Small Business around the country, that in the next three (3) years Dominica’s middle class would have grown successfully that the nation’s unemployment figures would have been reduced to 3%.
    HOTEP!
