Over US$40-m for climate resilience project

Dominica has so far secured over US$40-million dollars from the World Bank for a climate resilience project.

That disclosure has come from Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Environment Samuel Carrette.

He said the funds will be used to undertake several activities.

“We had the world bank here last week to finalize a project called the PTCR or Pilot Project for Climate Resilience. Through that project so far, we have secured in excess of 40 Million US Dollars to undertake activities in agriculture, infrastructure and other social development,” he said.

Carette was addressing the start of a two day CARICOM support for environment statistics meeting which got underway at the fisheries division today.

The meeting is geared at strengthening the islands capacity to develop and monitor its multi-lateral agreement.

Project Coordinator of the Project for Capacity Building in the Caribbean, Dr Teress Yard, said it is extremely important for Dominica to embark upon such a project.

“Dominica is known as the Nature Island of the Caribbean. It is a pace-setter in the Caribbean terms of greening and organic agriculture. Dominica has achieved a number of successes that are recognized throughout the Caribbean,” she said.

Dr Yard says Dominica has also set some ambitious goals in terms of sustainable development, natural resources and management.

“Dominica is a leader in the Caribbean and if the country wants to be able to know that their standards remain high, they need to have the data to back up their claims,” she explained.

almost 200 nations will gather in Doha next week for talks to lay the groundwork for a new treaty to fight climate change to be reached by 2015 and come into force by 2020.

Or put another way into its truest context: Very soon, many more millions of people are going to awaken to the realization that they no longer have any say whatsoever over their lives.

Why is Dominica Accepting money from the World Bank? Was it a loan? Or was it a generous Contribution with no strings attached? Why isnt the full circumstances of the disbursal being discussed? What are the conditions for such a grant and why isnt all this being made available to the public.. The World Bank is a private organization and no doubt if it was a loan then it becomes perpetual debt which can never be repaid… forced onto our backs and the backs of our children and Children’s children…. smh

Can some one tell me please. If Dominican Officials are so corrupt as the other side would want us to believe, how comes the international community is providing such unprecedented level of development assistance to the country?

I can firmly say that accountability and transparency is alive and well in Dominica.

The World Bank, IMF, WTO etc. are all tools used by the Global Elites, International Bankers to exercise control over willing government worldwide, it is a very effective method of controlling governments and people worldwide.

In any event while getting loans are one aspect of the equation, paying it back is another, do you really believe that Dominica is financially stable enough to be burrowing money low interest or otherwise from China or any other country or international Financial organization.

To make matters worst a lot of the funds being burrowed are being invested in projects that are incapable of creating direct revenue for the country.

Seeing how that money is already secured it should go towards agriculture, manufacturing and further development of our geothermal project.

Use some of that money to help alleviate the ‘garbage woes’ presently on the island. Have a solid waste and garbage disposal program that is self-sustaining.

US$40-million dollars… and how much goes towards hunger, homelessness and taking care of the elders and babies? There’s nothing wrong with Dominica’s climate. You can’t fix something that is not broken. I can’t believe but not surprised, that the Dominica government would BOW down to such nonesense. Marcus Garvey is surely turning in his grave right now!

You never heard of the ‘Housing Revolution’? it is design to alleviate the Homelessness, what about the ‘Yes we Care Program’? it is design to assist the ELDERS who are abandon by there families, then the is the remopval of the ‘Hospital User Fees for those 60 and above… The public assistant program design to help alleviatte hunger, how do you all call it…’Red Clinic’ and demonalize it..

Just thought i would share that with you so that you can decide to stop listening to Q if you want to learn what is really taking place in your country!!!

      Rastafari,

how short sighted of you to say… Dominica’s future is in differentiation. being able to CONTINUE marketing our selvs as DIFFERENT from the other islands by being the most environmentally sustainable. Secret bay and Rosalie bay have both enjoyed tremenedous success by doing this.

having said this, consider tat we DO have environmental issues. only 40% of domlec energy is green – the race is on to reach 100%! we have constant litter and yes 40 million is alot, but imagine much of that money going towards solar panels or wind farms that generate electricity. this would drive utility costs WAY down and then surely people would have more disposable income to conquer their hunger etc… THINK NUH MAN
