Pipe-borne water coming for Belles

pipe waterThe residents of Belles will soon have pipe borne water at their homes as the Belles Water Supply Project is close to being completed.

This was according to Parliamentary Representative for the St Joseph Constituency, Kelver Darroux while addressing a site visit to the project on Wednesday.

The project is being funded by loan financing and estimates for the tendered works are EC$4,550,000, including $1,854,651.20 for Lot 1 and EC$2,695,348.80 for Lot 2.

It consists of two storage tanks: one capable of holding 40,000 gallons of water and the other 30,000 gallons.

“As Member of Parliament for the Belles, Penrice, Pont Casse area, I am indeed delighted to be part of this project and to realize that the residents of Belles will soon have pipe-borne water at their homes,” he said.

According to Darroux the project will add value to the farming community of Belles.

“As we all know Belles is a major farming community and residents there engage in a lot of farming and that will in fact add value to the farming community here, as well as the other institutions which are within this community,” he explained. “We also have a health centre and a number of residential homes are now being constructed and I believe once that project is completed we will see a greater delivery of service being brought here to the residents of that community.”

Darroux stated further that the project will address various concerns as it relates to water sanitation in the Belles community.

“Very importantly Belles have several rivers and streams and, I believe, although the rivers and streams exists in this community, having pipe borne water is equally important, because now you can have the readily available source of water supply as well as the safety and sanitation that comes with it because we have to be very concerned as to where we get water from, because a lot of the sources that they have water springing from in this community a lot of farming is done around there and have to be concerned about the fertilizer that is being put in the soil and the impact that it can have the medium to long-term on the health of the residents.”

Meantime National Security and Justice Minister Rayburn Blackmoore said the government of Dominica is keeping in their commitment in providing, “healthy and clean drinking water to all the communities throughout the country…”

The Belles Water Project is being undertaken by the Dominica Water and Sewerage Company Limited (DOWASCO )and the government of Dominica.

Good job Mr Pal Rep, Belles people are Dominicans too and they need roads and water too. A certain blue politician said the money that was spent on the Transinsular Road, now Dr. Nicholas Liverpool Highway, that passes through Belles, should have been spent on the East Coast road instead. That highlights their attitude towards the people of Belles, but they were there trying to gain votes. The people of Belles showed them they are smarter than that of course!

It is indeed a fact that the blessed Dominica Labour Party loves and cares about its People. Belles, you have been always faithful and loyal Labourites and, of course, you too shall eat. Good people of Belles, please rest assured that this is only the beginning as our Supreme Leader is set to bring about some dramatic development to our shores. Our ordained Prime Minister has been working closely with business counterparts in Malaysia to initiate a programme of rapid development that will take your sweet Country to first world economic status in a very short period of time. As loyal Labourites, Belles will benefit from the great money flow that is coming to our shores like a Tsunami. Now is the time to enjoy and celebrate being a Labour Warrior!!!

Thank you Dawasco and Parl Rep Darroux. You put your big water tank and pump house right outside the entrance of our homes in Pond Casse. You tore up the entire road to lay pipes inside by us for intake and washout from the river that we used to use for drinking, bathing, etc. as there is no other water here. You broke the concrete on one of the ravines entering our road, which is on the verge of collapse and won’t be able to drive our vehicles in soon, eroded everything, did not make any drains on the road after covering up the pipes. The road you cut inside for the intake and dam alongside the river is now being used as an atv recreation route with engines revving and people hooting and hollering as we try to live in Zion and…….you are bringing Belles the water (which they already have on their own) but NOT GIVING IT TO US WHEN WE ARE YOUR SOURCE AND YOU HAVE RUINED EVERYTHING HERE!!! Thank you very much assholes!!!

You forgot that they painted the tank blue and white which blends so nicely with the green vegetation – Talk about eyesore!! Oh, and I love the chain link fence to stop anyone breaking in to take the water (in Pond Casse?)… It would have been so easy to paint it green and plant shrubs around it – So much for the nature island.

Kelvar you really a looney speaking things you not off.
    1. “As we all know Belles is a major farming community and residents there engage in a lot of farming and that will in fact add value to the farming community here,…” Are you implying that the POTABLE water resource can be used for irrigation. Does Govt. have a policy it terms of water consumption for domestic vs. agricultural/ agro-processing purposes. Are you telling the Belles farmers that the domestic rate paid for water consumption will be reviewed in light of the opportunities of adding value to the farming community through the introduction of POTABLE water.
    2. “….because a lot of the sources that they have water springing from in this community a lot of farming is done around there and have to be concerned about the fertilizer….” What you and Govt. should be concerned about is the construction of an abattoir in a high rainfall water catchment area without a clear plan as to effluent waste disposal, your…

Stupessssssss. Ahfuss I hate to hear allu say that as if Belles people don’t have pipe borne water at their homes now. I did not hear the parl rep expressing commendation to the Belles people for having come together as a ommunity and taking water to their homes in 1998 and upholding maintainance as a community to ensure people was drinking good clean water. Well hats off to people like the Lukes, the Esprits, the Cardettes, Jolly and de others. And now I thank you Mr Parl Rep for now deciding to bring us properly managed water, that we now have to pay for, to our homes. I thank you!
