Prime Minister, Roosevelt Skerrit, has reported growth in Dominica’s economy for the last financial year and is predicting even more growth for the new financial year.

Presenting the country’s budget for the 2015-2016 financial year on Friday morning, Skerrit said the island’s economy grew by 3.4 percent in 2014, an expansion of 1.4 percent from 2013.

He said such a growth is better than average growth of 2.9 percent in countries served by the Eastern Caribbean Currency Union (ECCU).

He is predicting growth of up to 5 percent in the new financial year.

“In the context of global realities, I am pleased to register real growth of 3.4 percent in 2014, following a 1.4 percent expansion in 2013,” he stated.

He noted that the growth was the result of strong performances in public administration, education, financial intermediation and wholesale and retail trade.

“Public administration accounted for 9.5 percent of GDP in 2014 with activity in the sector expanding by 10.7 percent compared to 2.2 percent in 2013,” the Prime Minister said. “Growth in 2014 is reflective of public expenditure associated with employment opportunities under the National Employment Program. This program has broadened the work force…”

He said projection for that sector in the new financial year points to a growth rate of 2.8 percent.

In terms of growth in the new financial year, Skerrit said the economy is expected to grow between 2 and 2.5 percent, “but the activities being proposed by government are expected to take us closer to a target of 5 percent.”

The budget is over $525,959,000.

Technically growth should result in some debt reduction, however looks like we are heading to the cliff. Debt is rising faster than growth For a small country like DA the budget seems bloated . Too many ministries for starters. Some should be consolidated . Reduce external borrowing .

Prime Minister said. “Growth in 2014 is reflective of public expenditure associated with employment opportunities under the National Employment Program. This program has broadened the work force…” since when does growing the Government equate to “Economic Growth”? plus this program has been running for a few years employing people for 6 months! could someone make a life being employed on this program? and by the way where is the relevant data to back up those claims?

Leadership! Leadership! Leadership! With the great and powerful Supreme Leader, Dr. Roosevelt M. Skerrit, at the helm, all things are possible. There was talk for some time by the United Wicked People in opposition about lack of vision and ideas etc., yet the proof is in the pudding as they say. With significant economic growth last year, the opposition have no choice but to eat their words. They may cast doubt, come up with excuses, find ways to explain without exposing their stupidity or just try to brush it aside as insignificant, however, they still end up with the proverbial pie all over their faces. Yes, whether you like it or not, Labour Ka Twavay!!! The numbers last year indicate that the sound policies and programmes established under the most blessed Dominica Labour Party is indeed the right way forward. I hope that now we will begin seeing a bipartisan approach to nation building instead of the constant bickering and criticism that is done by the United Wicked People.

“Friday morning, Skerrit said the island’s economy grew by 3.4 percent in 2014, an expansion of 1.4 percent from 2013.”

Someone should ask him to explain how many new sustainable jobs he has created over the period, and what amount of revenue was collected from income tax over the same period, he should also explain how much was earned from commodities exported out of Dominica to any foreign market, and explain how much was earned from visiting tourist.

Is it not strange that a country which is on the brink of financial economy has grown by 3.4%, not even the economy of the United States have grown that much for the same period, and that can be verified. George Bush vice president to Reagan once said Regan economics is voodoo economics!

Voodoo, and obeah, are one of the same hence, Skerrit is into obeah economics oui!

Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahah! That man is a trip!

“Is it not strange that a country which is on the brink of financial economy has grown by 3.4%, not ”

Let that read: ‘Is it not strange that a country which is on the brink of financial collapsed, economy has grown that rapidity in such short period of time?’

Skerrit a clear sign of growth would be employment creation.Go ask any student doing Principles of Business for CXC. You and your ministers are simply too inept, lazy, dunce and heartless to understand that.
We know very well that some people pocket grew, but the evidencen on the ground, shows
that poverty and are widespread .

It would be nice if all the information and data mentioned in the budget address were made readily available to the public. Merely listening to the address is not enough. We need to digest it and verify the information in it.

Last audit report published on the government website was for year ending June 2010. This is unacceptable. The public is interested in reading this information and seeing how the nation is doing. So please Mr. Director of Audit get with it and publish these long overdue reports.

Mr. PM I am suggesting to you that you make the Gazette as well as the Handsards of the House of Assembly available to the public on the government website. This is the 21st Century and the age of technology, so why is it that this has not been done?

You may have thought it funny when you try to insult me days ago; my purpose today is to prove you an idiot! HIV; or Aids might be escalating in the country; nevertheless, I don’t think you or anyone would be making any sense to blame Skerrit for the escalation!

In the first place everybody should know that they can acquire aids through sexual intercourse, therefore man nor woman should have sexual contact with anyone unless they know who they are sleeping with. I doubt that Skerrit selects women with aids and dispatch them to sleep with certain men specifically to give them aids.

That is how dumb you are! I mean I want Skerrit out of the of the way so that someone else can try to change the status quo in the country, we need development, which Skerrit is unable to produce, but to blame the man for the high ratio of aids in the country is total nonsense!

      You are an idiot!
