Prime Minister Roosevelt has said that his government will build new homes for residents of Dublanc who are being affected by the sea if they decide to relocate.
He made that statement while addressing a Town Hall Meeting in the village of Dublanc on Sunday.
According to Skerrit, as Minister of Finance, he has agreed to make monies available to build new homes to relocate residents who want to move to safer grounds.
“I want you to seriously consider, some of you, who are living on the seashore because whenever there is a sea surge you will get flooded, you get washed out, and if every so often you have to be buying a new TV, you have to buy a new bed, you have to buy a drawer, I think the time has come for you to make a determination to move,” he said. “All I am saying to you the decision is yours to make. All I would say to you in regard to that is that we will be prepared to build a home for you if you decide to relocate.”
He asked for proper information in dealing with the matter.
“So let us get the proper information, the number of names in the families and the lots and so forth so we can build these new homes for the people,” Skerrit added.
He also revealed that his government will make a commitment of $400,000 to repair the homes of some residents.
“I know some of you where your homes are it’s okay, but you will need repairs to your homes,” he noted.“In addition to the homes that will be constructed, I will make a commitment of $400,000 to fix residents’ homes.”
Skerrit went on to say that he doesn’t want the homes done in a haphazard way.
“Let us not give them half a room, let us give them a full room,” Skerrit stated.
He also called on contractors to be more diligent in constructing the homes.
“You are doing it for your people, so do it with pride, do it with the satisfaction of the beneficiaries,” he remarked.
Why all this nasty comments, because it’s Dublanc? You all are so ignorant all of you all UWPites.
Just look and see what is happening in America the country you all think you all are part of.
They wanted Change , they got it and now they are crying fowl.
Dominica is heading in the same direction. Be careful what you ask for my people.
God’s not dead he is still alive and watching you all ungrateful heathens.
This is utter madness of unprecedented proportions!!! Is PM Skeritt offering to build even more houses when just the other day he had no money supposedly to build them and so was GIVEN 300 petro casas to assist in providing for those who needed them? Is this OFFER to build houses for persons who never complained about their homes being damaged, simply a ploy to get more petro casas in order to pay some money to the Venezuelans who need cash so urgently? Why would a PM go into a small seaside community to OFFER persons in that community NEW HOUSES and URGE THEM TO MOVE, TO COME TO A DECISION, one which was not previously considered by them???? COULD IT BE THAT HIMSELF AND SOMEONE ELSE FOR WHOM HE IS ACTING IS FULLY AWARE OF THE PRIME LOCATION OF THIS VILLAGE AND THE VALUE OF THIS LAND FOR HOTEL CONSTRUCTION??? COULD THIS BE WHY THEY ARE BEING OFFERED THIS WONDERFUL (WONDERFUL?????????) OPPORTUNITY???? What ‘vision’ has the PM seen this time???? This is indeed worrying and amazing…
who gave them permission to build there??
so someone choose to build their home by the sea now government must take
my tax money and bulid a home for them if they so wish to move cause sea affecting
them now.
But you are refusing to give public officers a raise? I know thatththey they wont stand for that.
i just dont get it… Does that make any sense… no raise but all other things being done.. that’s just so sad
It would do Skerritt good to inform the residents who reside in capital communities of the possible harmful effects of global warming and that they should buy insurance for their properties. The government can’t go giving houses to families adversely affected by natural disasters.
What does the effects of home by the sea surge have to do with construction workers. History
The older people built (past tense) their homes by the seashore most times for easy access to travel by boat. Also rivers were utilized because people did not have pipe borne water. It made their lives easier.
Time have changed mountains can be made flat, water can be brought to any village. Sometimes we talk too fast. We should do a little history search before speeches.
If you haven’t notice all Dominica are are old path people walked. A new road has not been built in Dominica many, many, many years.
He can find monies to give some (especially his supporters) but he cannot find money to pay public officers a salary increase. If one adds up all what he has given or promised in the last quarter, it’s far more than what the civil servants and the Police are asking for. That man has no plan or idea on how to transform and build a resilient economy. He is all about dishing monies and recycling promises to get re-elected to continue to protect himself. That’s in essence is Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit.
Santa Claus is busy and it’s not even Christmas yet!
Where did Skerrit get all that money from? Did a plane carrying money crash inside Skerrit’s house and all the money stayed in his house? Did one of the oil tankers with Dominica flag make an emergency stop in Greece while Skerrit took his sudden trip to Greece? Or better yet, did Alireza Monfared leave his two briefcases of money with Skerrit and Skerrit is looking for ways to spend some from it? These are questions we need answers for because it is impossible for Skerrit or any politician just have money spreading like sand on the sea, without getting approval of the Parliament. Skerrit’s action is demonstrating that he is bigger than the Parliament and as a result there is no need for parliament. If a poor man was just dishing money like that the police would have already brought him in for questioning. Can’t understand why Skerrit is not being questioned? The man is bigger than Da
sigh smh smh
Am I the only one truly worried about things in Dominica? As we would say “my poopoo boiling”… there is something amidst, and I am truly scared and worried.
With all this money spreading like wild fire… what’s truly going on??? Never have WE in the history of Dominica seen money and promises being served to Dominicans like this. Not even before a general election, do we see millions being dished out in all nooks and crannies of Dominica. I AM SO SUSPICIOUS OF ALL THESE PROJECTS COMING ON STREAM, 99% FUNDED BY CBI MONEYS AND MONEY BEING HANDED OUT TO PUBLIC IN EVERY WAY POSSIBLE…WHAT IS REALLY GOING ON!!????
REALLY, AM I THE ONLY ONE WONDERING WHAT’S GOING ON?
Sounds like Santa Clause has come early to Dominica.Looks like everyday Skerritt and his government is giving something away to some constituency. The IMF and the governor of the central bank suggested the direction the country should take in using the CBI money, but the man with the honourary doctorate knows best.
WA papa election coming… Hmm eh beh look it
