Potable water a social hope – PM

Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit has said that government recognizes the need to ensure that everyone has access to clean pipe-borne water and is optimistic that this goal will be achieved by 2014.

The prime minister headed a site visit to the West Coast Water Project on Wednesday, where he discussed, among other things, his administration’s intention of achieving 100 percent access to potable water on the island.

The project is being jointly funded by the Government of Dominica and the European Union and is costing over $31-million dollars.

“This Labor party government recognizes that access to clean potable water is a social hope and is not about what return you will get on it but it’s the desire and the need to ensure that everyone has access to water.” Skerrit said.

Communities from St Joseph to Colihaut have been experiencing frequent water shortages, a matter that will be addressed when the project is completed.

The Prime Minister added that that the construction of a water supply project for the communities of Penrice and Belles is expected to commence soon.

“Once that issue is addressed in that area [Penrice and Belles] we would have achieved 100 percent universal access to clean potable water in Dominica,” he said.

The Penrice water project is expected to cost more than $5-million.

Good Work to say the least. A very welcomed news. Is there any hope that the Communities of Despor and Sylvannia will also be included under the Fresh Clean Pipe born water for 100% of Dominica by 2014?

So when the project is completed that’s when the PM is going to address the St Joseph to Colihaut water problems? Not sure I get it. Cause 31 million less 5 million for Belles/Penrice water supply leaves us with 26 million. What will the 26 million go towards?
I really hope that I am the one not getting it right or does the article need to be rewritten? Just asking. And is that EC or US dollars?
Sorry but this article or the PM has a problem with the queens language cause it begs too many questions? I need more clarity. What will the other 26 million be used for? Some more details are needed here.

You definitely have a problem. Read the article again and you will get it! The present project will address the problem from St. Joseph to Colihaut upon completion. The West Coast Water Project cost 31 million dollars. The Penrice/Belles water project is expected to cost 5 million dollars.

There would be more available water if the crews who fix the leaking pipes could actually fix them.
