Roseau River Promenade Phase One to be completed next week

Construction in early October

Construction work on the first phase of the Roseau River Promenade Project should be completed by the end of next week.

This was confirmed on Tuesday October 14th by owner and manager of George Trucking and Excavation Services, George Nanthan.

That phase of the project involves the construction of a 45 metre wall on the northern bank of the Roseau River.

“We have an additional 10 metres [to complete] but because of the need to cart away the material, we are using a section for the road so when we are finished carting the materials, we will get to that point,” Nanthan said.

He noted that the project will be completed way ahead of the proposed completion date.

“We had a three-month time frame for that period [but] we have just finished our second fortnight; just watch our progress, it speaks for itself,” he remarked.

The project has created employment for over 30 individuals from Roseau and the environs.

Nanthan says almost every day two or three persons from neighbouring communities came looking for jobs and he was able to place them.

He currently employs 35 people. “I could see their need,” he said.

Marissa Toussaint, an intern with the National Employment Programme is currently employed on the project.

She told GIS News on Tuesday that she is proud to be employed on the project.

“Certain guys out there don’t really like to work and some of us women have to show them that we can do what they don’t like doing,” Toussaint said with a smile.

This is not true employment if tax money is being used to fund a project all this is doing is increasing the tax burden. So many developing countries are looking at ways to privatize and minimize it’s civil service which in turn will create real growth. George see the project through finish early and on budget before bragging as a business owner myself unforseen circumstances can ruin a budget and a schedule.

NEp is rubbish, this type of program should be run by a non profit organization with no political ties. Dominica is too far behind, we the people need to realize that partisan politics and bribe for vote isn’t going to get us anywhere. We need to attract investors we need to stop that “what’s in it for me politics” we need leaders who have an good head on their shoulders and dignity to do the right thing. 3 for me 1 for you isn’t leadership. People and country first…. your biggest reward is your legacy …. it will live long long after you

I don’t care if this for political reason once our people employed and things getting done am happy, some folks failed to understand politics is a game,if you love your country you should be happy once there’s projects in the country.

good first step at enhancing the appearance of the area. Also nice to hear that citizens are being employed as well during the construction process.

Why do you not give it your blessings rather than make such a comment? After it is completed, you may be the first one to say, “Oh, it looks so beautiful” and enjoy going there.

This project will definitely enhance the Roseau area. When completed, it should be a major upgrade to our tourism product.
