Businesses in Dominica will be given another opportunity to showcase their products and stimulate sales this summer, at the 2nd annual Shop Dominica.
The initiative which is spearheaded by te Dominica Association of Industry and Commerce (DAIC), the Dominica Hotel & Tourism Association (DHTA), the Discover Dominica Authority (DDA) and the Dominica Manufacturers Association (DMA) was officially launched on Wednesday.
The event is actually slated for August 2 -4 but business owners and entrepreneurs are making early preparations.
President of the Dominica Association of Industry and Commerce (DAIC) Lilian Piper says in addition to targeting shoppers from overseas, the initiative is also geared at encouraging locals to shop “at home” instead of travelling aboard.
“Usually during the summer, parents go to Puerto Rico and Miami to do shopping but with air fares so high, we are hoping that they will stay home. We also want to encourage the French to come in and experience shopping here. We are actually marketing with them in mind,” she said.
Meantime, Head of Marketing at the Discover Dominica Authority Nikima Royer Jno. Baptiste, says the partnership will help meet the DDA’s target of 90,000 visitors by 2015.
“That number is something that I hope all Dominicans have already drilled in their head and understand the impact and implications. That’s a growth of 7% of the tourism industry…” she said.
A Bar Crawl organised by the Dominica Hotel and Tourism Association and a market shopping extravaganza organised by the Dominica Manufactures Association, are some of the additional activities on the calendar.

Our Government Need to Reduce on them import duties so we can get better deals from the store owners and other Dealers …But am in support of that initiative, way to go,,
Taxes are an essential part of a developing nation like ours. The issue in Dca is NOT high taxes but rather mismanagement, corruption and incompetence.
Assertive, NOT Agressive!
I coming home just in time too. We need to support what is ours. I really like the initiative.
Amen to that funcxions
this is fantastic, we need to patronize our own. on the other hand, things are so expensive and the varieties are limited, if we can work around that , just maybe more people will spend their monies here
I think there should be more pics from the last “Shop Dominica”.#.Highlighting the areas to shop thus getting persons more excited
Go Dominica
Look like I coming home just in time. Dominica has so much to offer we just need to be more productive in what we do. Bring each other up and not down.
