Saying thanks to the Govt of Korea maybe they thought we needed that, but it would be sad to know that Dominica requested those vehicles because the fire service requires special vehicles and other equipment…this is our ambulance service, this is our search and rescue dept. The hospital needs equipment, as a child I remember people coming from abroad for medical treatment in Dominica, today we have to go overseas when we have a headache.. (those who can afford it) those who can’t might die because the Dr does not have the necessary equipment to diagnose.
The streets and gutters in Roseau stinks, the sidewalks are in a deplorable condition. Roseau is ugly. Wheel chair users cannot get around, come on…..smh.
Oh Dominica where is our priority. Auto Trade, Acme Garage and Astaphans or Al motors could give a vehicle to Government.
This speaks about our vision and strategic thinking.
    Poor Ma Dominique.

Though this is good contribution (this isn’t ‘The price is right’) any car salesman can donate a vehicle, we are speaking of countries and economies not free transports. On a more strategic level investments/ contributions call them what you will, should be focused on strong infrastructure development which will build the foundations for a strong business and political relationships which will keep us relevant in the future. Cranes, ambulances, firetrucks, drilling vehicles, mobile emergency vehicles, mobile power stations, mobile police stations even a significant number of police motorcycles and or generators to power gas stations in case there are power outages during a hurricane etc. They should offer to trade back those vehicles for such investments even to the tune of establishing business relations with the KIA company that manufactures such vehicles circumventing their governmental red tape and allowing for more relevant structured relationships based on the strategic interest of all Dominicans.

I think we need to expand our development cooperation with South Korea, a leader in R & D in technology. It seems the only gifts we get from that country is a few vehicles now and then. Let us critically and smartly look at areas where South Korea’s support can help in expanding the frontiers of the economy like ICT and business and trade finance. If we want vehicles, let us seek to get vehicles and equipment that will boost our emergency services such as appropriately designed ambulances, police patrol cars equipped with communication systems, equipment for clearing land slides, establishment of a forensic and crime lab that can serve the rest of the OECS as well. Let us be creative, Government of Dominica.

Yes we must say ‘Thank You’ when we receive gifts, but the gifts must be something we actually need and would put to good use.

Something that will benefit us and those around us. Why not give Fire trucks, Ambulances, Garbage trucks etc. Why give something only a handful will make use of.

Let’s see who qualifies for “protocol” by the “doctrine of necessity”. We’ll be watching who is driving these vehicles. GA414, GA 415 so the next one is GA 413 or GA 416 ?

When will this government learn, what we need is a fleet of new garbage trucks. Roseau and the rest of the country will continue to STINK while Alvin and the other jokers will be gallivanting in their new Korean vehicles-shameful!!!!

    Dear S. Korea,

We thank you so much for your gifts of protocol vehicles. The article did not say whether this was a spontaneous presentation or if it was prompted by some demands by the govrnment of Dominica. If it was spontaneous then so be it.

Sadly these vehicles will only add to the growing fleet of high priced luxury vehicles to be used solely the PM and his fat cats. What Dominican people will benefit most from is from purpose designed vehicles like ambulances which would be used by everyone.

Recently the fire department had to resort to making 2 crude ambulances out of local materials. This practice though commendable does not have the requisite safety assurance as purpose built ambulances.

    gratefully yours
