Tremendous opportunities for Dominica in South East Asia – PM Skerrit

PM Skerrit describes both metings as being important and critical
Skerrit says the response to the CBI Programme during his South East Asia trip was “overwhelming”

Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit has said that there are tremendous opportunities for Dominica in South East Asia.

Skerrit comments came following his recent visit to Asia as he aimed to raise some EC$30 Million for 2015 for Dominica under the Citizenship By Investment (CBI) Programme.

The CBI is an ongoing programme in which Dominican Citizenship is granted to individuals and families in exchange for an investment fee.

According to information on the Dominica Citizenship website, the CBI Programme is not a passport scam.

In fact the website states that the programmme is a legitimate one enacted by law in 1993, which is said to be well regulated and a very credible plan.

According to Skerrit, who was addressing a recent press conference, the response received during his trip to Asia, particularly with regard to the CBI Programme was “overwhelming.”

“There are tremendous opportunities for Dominica in South East Asia. It is an emerging market, huge populations, a well of natural resources and great opportunity for business for Dominica,” he said. “As you know we had the programme since 1993, we continue to promote it; we’ve meet significant changes in the programme over the last year.”

He continued, “People are keen on the product which Dominica is offering and I believe that in the next 6, to 12 to 18 months we will see increased business coming to the Citizenship by Investment Programme from the both fronts.”

Skerrit added that there are two elements of the programme, one has to do with the cash contribution to the country and the other deals with real estate.

According to him the government has approved fully, one project, that is, the breaking ground for the Kempinski Hotel in Cabrits, “and we have several other projects that we will be approving in the next couple of weeks.”

“While the programme is important to us from a financial standpoint, we have to ensure that we continue to maintain the robustness of our due diligence process,” Skerrit indicated. “I said for example that we are acutely aware that the quality of projects approved under our Citizenship By Investment Programme will have an impact on the reputation of our programme.”

He said that the government therefore, welcomes project developers and promoters and stand ready to facilitate them to implement successful projects.

“We are, however, very selective in the approval of projects,” he noted. “Projects must be designed in a manner that will ensure transparency and accountability to both investors and the government and the people of Dominica. The ability for these projects would generate economic activities and create jobs that are sustainable as also key considerations.”

He said the likelihood of completion and success is a critical factor that’s is considered before approving any project under the CBI Programme.

“In order words quality over quantity remains our guiding principle,” Skerrit explained.

He pledged his commitment to work with all agents, promoters and developers of the CBI Programme to build a world class product.

“I also give the commitment to our partners that we stand ready to work with you to ensure that our program is being used for lawful purposes and not for nefarious activities that can undermine peace and security throughout the world,” he remarked.

Skerrit added, “While we are in dire need of investments and investors we are committed to safeguarding the integrity of the program as well as the reputation of our country and implications of our citizens in the medium and long-term.”

Mr Prime minister please define or rather your understanding of “tremendous opportunities …..
Where does the local man or woman benefit?
Can Dominicans go to Asia and become citizens or find jobs?
Mr Pm , there are very intelligent Dominicans out there. ..
Stop making Dominicans feel good with nice talk.. talk is cheap
By the way, could the Pm tell us who took care of the expenditures for the tour?
Was it Asia , or Dominica treasury?
Could we get a break down of the trip cost wise?
These trips are very expensive and indeed airfares and 5 star hotels

Bravo! we are getting there, more jobs for those who wants to improve their standard of life and style. NOT for those who want to stay here and take, take and take. You are not only handsome but beautiful as well. Let them stay and back losers. If there were to be an election tomorrow Labor would still win. They once told me empty vessels make the most noise. You cannot kick against the prick. So be realistic and always back the winner only then you will be happy. Be brave and go along with the winner and feel good and proud of your country.Blessings

I think there are tremendous opportunities for Dominicans at home and not South East Asia. We could begin to hunt crab and manicou and then build more villas and guest houses. The initial ivnestment for such a project is quite small. The following items are required:
    Flash light
    Shoes
    cruckas Bag and rope
    Two or three helpers.

Is the Prime Minister telling Dominicans he paid hundreds of tax payers dollars to travel to Asia, just to come back to tell us of opportunities and at the end of it he calls a donor’s conference in Dominica. If I was a donor, I would ask him, how much money did the business men or Governments in Asia donated to Dominica. The man is really taking his cochonee to far.

I would like to know who are the owners of the proposed Silver Beach resort project in Picard. And why can’t ordinary Dominicans, who do not need to buy their citizenships, invest in these wonderful opportunities?

But overwhelming opportunities for those whom you sold our passports to. I will not be surprised that the numbers have way surpassed the population of Dominica.

Our precious and ordained Supreme Leader knows how to make money, get money and invest money. Labourites are not at all surprised that the response in South East Asia was overwhelming as the Supreme Leader’s magnetism and charm draws people in and wins their hearts. Dr. Skerrit’s warm smile alone is contagious. Being in the presence of this great man, one can feel a divine presence and know that he/she is close to a source of power that transcends this world. Labourites are aware of our Supreme Leaders greatness and have no doubt that investors in South East Asia will be rushing to dump buckets of money at our precious Leader’s feet. Labourites know who can get and make money. We have a multi-millionaire Leader while the other side has a poor novice who can hardly keep a job. If common sense was to prevail in this Country of ours, even a blind man could see that the right choice was made on the 8th of December, 2014 and will be made again four years from now. For sure!!!!

How does the Citizenship by Investment Program determine in which areas Dominica could best benefit? Is there a process through which regular Dominicans could discuss some of the needs that could be met by those investments? Having a more open process would lend greater credibility to this program.
Whenever we hear of investments we hear of hotels to be built. However, for the ordinary man on the street we need more than hotels.
What about housing opportunities? The creation of planned communities – different types of housing (apartments, single and double family homes, senior citizens housing), shopping areas, recreation facilities, schools, places of worship, libraries, community and health centers
There needs to be a list of investment opportunities that is presented to the potential investors. That list should take into account the areas that would benefit the ordinary man on the street – how can the program help elevate our standard of living and bring value to our daily…

  17. November 16, 2015

Skerrit under your administration is there one project or sustainable benifit that you can point to. What benefit from Asia are you talking about. Up to now we have have not sold one Gwen pere to China.
Passports have been selling nonstop and where are the investments. Only bias fools will make up CBI investments in Dominica. Well we know about MDTH who claim that they have aqua farms, medical facilities and energy solutions operations in Dominica.
What a scam that Roosevelt and his government continue to run in Dominica. DNO if it is not a scam then please point to one- just one. And if you can’t then the passport operatives are con artists.

Roosevelt Skerrit, I once saw you on a apolitical platform with a black so called graduating gown, and cap without a tassel, which you threw it in the air, making the claim that you graduated as an English major somewhere in the South in a university in the United States; however, your name cannot be found on any graduating list; in any accredited university the universities in this country!

Could it be the reason I have difficulities comprehending the quote above. When you speak of \” tremendous;\” (great) opportunity in South East Asia; may I ask in what way, and how do you anticipate Dominicans taking advantage of your claimed opportunities.

Are you going to transport the land Dominica to South East Asia, or are you suggesting mass-migration of our people to Asia! (you know I doh can understand your English, so pleas help me understand your rhetoric!

Note: the two back (\\ \\) slashes in my comment, I do not know how they got there, could be by accident, but I do not use such in writing the English language for punctuation marks.

I know when and where to apply them appropriately!

    South east asia huh?
What about securing tremendous opportunities right here in our own island first !
The passport issue shows how easily we agree to sell our nation to people who do not even care for us as a race. Laws should be enacted so that no foreign company can make profits here unless the hire half their staff from the island of dominica.
