Vehicular access to Boetica, Delices coming

Ongoing work on the Boetica Gorge Bridge

Member of Parliament for the La Plaine, Petter Saint Jean, has said vehicular access to Boetica and Delices should be possible be the end of this week.

The two communities have been cut off from the rest of Dominica since the passage of Tropical Storm Erika on August 27 when the bridge at the Boetica Gorge was  washed away.

But speaking earlier this week, Saint Jean said this is going to be history.

“Thankfully by the end of this week this will be a thing of the past,” he stated.

He stated residents of the two communities were ‘adversely impacted’ by the storm.

“To the extent that while we speak here, they still have down the gorge to get into Roseau …” he noted.

Just recently Saint Jean expressed his displeasure with the pace of work on the bridge saying the matter was in a “crisis situation.”

Hello and good evening my people. Well am glad the people will have a bridge but we must be honest as to what’s depicted in the photograph. The bridge is to low and the soil is soft and prone to landslide. Let us hope we don’t have heavy rain soon because it will destroy this bridge and I can’t believe that our Government don’t have a Civil Engineer on staff that would represent our Government.

I pity the people of Boetica and Delices, in that, their anxiety and sufferings after TS Erika. Note the means they use to access out of Boetica and Delices It appears they are coping as best as they could and with the help of God. I can tell you, they are brave and determined people and are to be commended.
We must pray for them that the bridge will be completed soon.
We must also pray that Dominica never experiences another TS Erika or worst.
What occurred in Dominica when TS Erika struck and the aftermath has absolutely nothing to do with the government. This is an act of Mother Nature and a reminder what could occur when we least expect it.
Our Lord Jesus Christ has told us of these things. St. Paul has also informed us that, when people are wishing each other peace and security, it comes as in labor pains.
I do think, based under the circumstances the government has done its utmost. This is no time for criticizing the government.
    Love, peace and unity!

Through every hardship we survive there is a lesson for which knowledge and experience is the blessing. People that are constantly critical of others are in fact putting their own shortcomings on display. It important to keep spirits high and the mind focused on progress and a way forward, we are a blessed people.

Is this a temporary bridge or is that what they can expect to have for the foreseeable future?

I’m not a civil engineer. But this bridge is not extended far enough. Where the end of the bridge is planted/anchored/fastened next to the excavator does not look secured – As this piece of embankment could come down with a heavy rainfall. However, If I lived over this chasm I’d be happy for the bridge. So, on this note, I’m happy for the people on both sides.

I’m just curious. Couldn’t there by a special Christmas passport sale to buy these folks a proper new bridge. The EU is desperately trying to offload the deluge of Syrian refugees…maybe they’ll by 1000 passports and resettle those families in Delices, with a new bridge for all the new residents.

Just a thought! Don’t worry about ISIS sneaking in…Dominicans have broad backs and have already survived worse for the past 15 years.

Thank You Jesus for all your blessings. No matter what, if we as a people looking at these pictures and still do not understanding what God has done for us, something is very wrong for those who have eyes and cannot see; ears and cannot hear.

Honourable St. Jean I am so happy to learn that soon the bridge will be completed. God Bless you and your family, the Honourable Prime Minister and all the Members of Government. I give thanks to the Lord Almighty when I realize how different things could have been after the passage of Tropical Storm Erika. To God Be the Glory.

    Merry Christmas Everyone.

And, Our Lord said in all things give God due thanks a praise. It definitely could have been worst.
To see how many people/organizations came to Dominica’s rescue and assisted affected nationals. There is more than ample reason to thank God.
God loves cheerful givers. He also loves appreciative people. Blessings abound when they do.

I hope that the people of Delices and Boetica use this as a hard lesson to reject you Petter Saint Jean next at the next elections. Four months of using a zip lines over a precipice. I don’t know how Laborites saying that we’re jealous of their P.M. It looks like they’re the ones who jealous of their own P.M. because they’re the ones who always use the Jealousy word. Check this out; Skeritt dress up in handsome suit but they wearing clothes that’s filled with holes. Skeritt wearing gold watch but they’re still using the sun to guide their path and to know the time of day. Skeritt riding in luxurious vehicles but if it wasn’t for public transportation they would be using fishing boat to get to the capital. Laborites too stupid that is why they will continue to wallow in the mud pits while Skeritt shows them how it’s done. Sad to say, but I think that after a few sheets of plywood and some fertilizer, the people of Delices and Boetica will still vote for him next election

      December 24, 2015

@ FD that should give him another three terms if he so chooses. Do you have a background in engineering? How can you stamp how long it took and put it on Peter, do you not see the valley they had to go into to build up? Is it the man fault that Dominicans when home has poor work ethics? Come to work at ten and leaves at three. @ Confused, you’re disappointed because they won’t have a Christmas. The question is how many Christmases did they have in the past? The man who you’re sorry they are not celebrating his birth is the same one who’s earth had a natural storm hit the island to cause the people to not have a Christmas, am really trying to understand some of you all logics. Am sure New Orleans would look at some of you crossed eyed knowing they are still homeless after all these years, and they live in a first world country.

        December 24, 2015

Real Possie… St. Jean himself cited incompetence in the building process, that was not associated with engineering. He himself had to cry down other ministers for not doing their jobs, so you can imagine what the regular residents were going through “trapped in a cage” as some put it. Incompetence is the order of the day. While St. Jean was “smoking teachers out of their holes” he could only get on radio to decry Public Works ministry rather than smoke out those holding up progress.

In Dominica the only viable response to incompetence, ignorance, and backwardness is to find someone, somewhere doing worse than us. We can never say “WOW, We are leaders in this field, others should be learning from us” instead we compete for class before last.

Have a salty Christmas. As a people soweth so they shall reap. If the events of 2015 haven’t opened you guys’ eyes…nothing will!

You know, the problem with some of them is, they do not have respect for people’s preference, whether their Church and political Party. They are always criticizing and backbiting. How can they ever be happy and peaceful? They have much to learn and the causes of division, disunity and lack of peace,
Some people never learn how to live at peace with others and accord them their due rights and dignity. If they cannot learn this on earth and also learn to live in harmony where will they learn it?

Dominicans from all walks of life and educational backgrounds migrated to the US as they did elsewhere. The problem is some of them lack humility, love and caring. I would think it was the same attitude they had when they resided in Dominica which they project on this Website. Today, some of these are playing fresh as we would say in Dominica and all of a sudden they think they know it all.

    • Kalinago in New York
      December 24, 2015

@Confused, you are really confused. Christmas does not mean having access to go to Roseau and shop til you drop only to blame government come January, every single year, for not having any more money to spend. Jesus Christ is the reason for the season and it should be celebrated with that in mind. It should not be about the tangible gifts but rather the intangible blessings within and around us. Having life and being with your family is what matters, not how many expensive gifts one can afford. Grudge not others but share what little you have with others with genuine love and trust me, God will ensure that like in the case of Elijah and the lady and her last bit of oil and flour, He will ensure that your cupboards will never be empty and your oil bottles will never run dry. Stop being a pessimist. You are lacking faith and optimism. Turn to God in earnest and you will not be disappointed, I guarantee you!
