The Waitukubuli National Trail Research and Interpretive Facility located at Pont Casse will be commissioned on Wednesday, 2nd November, 2011. This ceremony will be attended by several ambassadors and officials from the European Union and the
region, as well as the Prime Minister of the Commonwealth of Dominica and members of Cabinet,
other dignitaries and invited guests. This will provide much needed visibility for the EU/Dominica Development Cooperation.
This Research and Interpretive Facility will serve as the headquarters of the Waitukubuli National Trail and as a center for research and administration of the trail. The facility, the home for the Waitukubuli National Trail, will allow users the opportunity to conduct research into the story of the project from its conceptualization by the Waitukubuli Ecological Foundation through the intricacies of its process and the handing over of a product that is equal to international standards and superior in the experience that it affords its users.
The infra-structure includes two buildings, one which will be used for trail administration and operation and the other which will serve as live-in quarters for Forest Rangers and provide accommodation to hikers along the trail. The building will also feature a monument to immortalize the contributions of groups, institutions, and individuals who have championed and supported this cause and ensured that the project implementation was a success.
The Waitukubuli National Trail is Dominica’s eco-signature, and the Caribbean’s first long-distance walking trail. The trail was conceptualized by the Waitukubuli Ecological Foundation and is being funded by the Government of the Commonwealth of Dominica and the European Union, and implemented in partnership with the Regional Council of Martinique. The Waitukubuli National Trail will open up and showcase the best of Dominica’s culture, heritage, local lifestyles, and the island’s rugged terrain and wild nature, rivers, waterfalls, mountains, exotic gorges and rainforests, and will feature the UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Morne Trois Pitons National Park.
The project is now in its final leg, with hand-over to the Government of Dominica set for December, 31, 2011. In the meantime, the Project Management Unit continues to encourage Dominicans and visitors alike to come ‘Discover Nature for Heritage Development’ and to hike the Nature Isle.
Thanks to Mr, Wiltshire who conceived and sort funding for the project since 1997. We need people with vision to bring development to our country.
I fully agree. Dominicans should appreciate and be thankful that Mr. Bernard Wiltshire first conceived the idea and deserves full credit.
would like to congratulate the hard work done by all staffs who worked on the Waitukubuli National Trail and also the team from Ecological Foundation…..Hope that we make the best of this facility and local and vistors can hike the Nature Isle. Happy Independence Dominica
The idea of the Waitikubuli Trail belongs to Bernard Wiltshire. This man has worked tirelessly in the idea of preserving the environment and using the environment as a means of sustainable development.
The real idea behind the trail still has not been achieved or realized because they stole it from the owner who came up with the idea. The trail is to be enjoyed by all but one has no right to steal the idea then kick out the one who formulated the idea. !!!
True that – but at this stage we can only hope that some of his vision for the project is achieved and Dominica on a whole benefits from it. He did not get the opportunity to implement the idea but the idea has become a reality which is what really matters at this point.
+1
RUBBISH TALK AS USUAL FROM AN IGNORANT FOOL!!!!!!!!!!
If what I have said is rubbish, could you share with me the facts relating to this case? Thanks.
Congrats and best wishes to the hard-working staff of the Project Management Unit for beating the odds and also to the Waitukubuli Ecological Foundation for an awesome concept.
