12-year-old of Bense wins debate in Anguilla

Dominican Nisha "Dovie" Dupuis (last one to the right) poses with other students of her school in Anguilla

Nisha Dupuis aka Dovie of Bense, now residing in Anguilla continues to shine in the area of public speaking and debate as she defeated her opponents in the New Young Progressive Debaters (NYPD) Competition at the Albena Lake Hodge Comprehensive High School  in Anguilla.

She debated against several students over an eight-week period and made it to the finals where she and her partner emerged winners to obtain the first title of NYPD champions.  In 2008 Nisha defeated 14 other students in a debate and lead the Temple Seventh Day Adventist School in Dominican to victory for the first time. She was only 10-years-old.

Her mother, Christine Dupuis, is also a former student of the Temple Seventh Day Adventist Primary School.

“Debate and public speaking is my passion” she boasted, as she hopes to make her career as a lawyer.

Her sister, 14-year-old Neller Dupuis, a former student of the Portsmouth SDA Secondary School in Dominica, though shy and timid, suprised her teachers as she tried to emulate her sister and obtained a prize for her participation in the NYPD competition. She made it to the semi-finals.
