PRESS RELEASE: On Friday March 12, 2010, the Boetica Cultural group will be hosting a group of American University students at a local buffet dinner and Culture Night at the Boetica Primary School.

Since 2005, Professor Thomas Klak (PhD) and a group of students have been interacting with village groups around topics related to sustainable development. The learning goes both ways. The trans-cultural friendships formed are truly rewarding.  Dr. Klak and his group of students have made significant contributions to the education system in the community of Grand Fond at both the pre-school and the primary school levels.

This year the students are expected back on island and when they will make contributions to the Grand Fond and Jones Beaupierre Primary Schools in what is described as a “Match Up Fund Project” towards their schools libraries.  The contributions will be in the form of books and cash. The Miami University group will also provide some financial support for needy children to attend the Grand Fond Social Centre Preschool, as they have done for several years.

A short presentation ceremony will be held at the Boetica Primary School on Friday March 12, 2010, where Dr. Klak  and the University students will make a  presentation of (Educational Supplies) reading books to the Jones Beaupierre Primary School.

Remarks are expected from Minister for Education and Human Resource Development, and Parliamentary Representative for the La Plaine Constituency, Hon. Peter St Jean,, Mrs. Verna De Jean Frederick Principal of the Jones Beaupierre Primary School and Leader of the Boetica Cultural Group, Professor Thomas Klak of the Miami University, Mr. Phillip Guiste, chairman of the Boetica Village Council and Mr. Ronald Green, member of the South Eastern District Tourism Awareness Committee.

The event will also include the performance of culturally significant songs from both Dominica and the United States, and from members of the Boetica Cultural Group.

A copy of a recently compiled DVD of traditional dances and a Compact Disc released by the Boetica Cultural Group will also be presented to the media houses on that night. This was produced as part of the groups 21st Anniversary Celebrations Productions.

Great job Principal De Jean! 21 years and getting stronger! I am proud of you guys. Brother LLoyd Pascal must be proud too. That reminds me of our numerous cultural groups in South City. On a more revealing note Mrs. De Jean: Thank you for having Mr. Ronald Green concede to Hon. Petter St. Jean, the Minister for Education and Parliamentary Representative for Boetica, Laplaine and Delices. Brilliant!!
