CAPSS conference to be hosted in Dominica

cappssThis year, the Dominica Association of Principals of Secondary Schools (DAPSS) will be hosting the Caribbean Association of Principals of Secondary Schools’ (CAPSS) 25th Biennial Conference at the Fort Young Hotel from 20 -24 July.

About 150 principals, vice-principals and senior teachers from some ten Caribbean territories will meet to discuss topics and issues related to the conference theme: Making the Principal’s Leadership Relevant in Supporting the Rapidly Evolving Learning Environment.

The dynamic environment in which principals work is changing very rapidly, particularly in the area of new technologies. Changing family settings and values, economic and social issues impact greatly on our students, their families and even on teachers. School leaders, therefore, must be poised to operate so that these challenges are adequately dealt with. If our education system has to equip our students to participate fully in national development, the role of our principals must be examined with a view to have it possibly redefined and enhanced.

Some of the issues to be addressed at the conference include Attitudes and Expectations of Stakeholders in Education, Changes in Communication and Technology, Moral Values, Character Education and Gender Issues, Crime and Violence, and Finances and the Global Economy. Dr Francis Severin, Director, UWI Open Campus Sites, will deliver the Keynote Address at the Conference. Other esteemed presenters are expected to lead in discussion on the other sub themes of the Conference.

It is expected that this year’s conference will provide positive reinforcement of the tremendous work being done at our schools, and present an opportunity for reflection on the principal’s role while participants network with each other.

This is an excellent way of meeting and interacting with counterparts, sharing views, exchanging relevant ideas and learning from each other which will eventually be passed on to the students for their benefit.

Chang the British model to a caribean model. The British model only produce servants to serve others not to build wealth for Black people.
