The Adult Education Division here says works are in the pipeline with a reputed Academic Institution to offer Caribbean Vocational Qualification (CVQ) to adults in Dominica.
Speaking at the end of an eight week Culinary Art training programme for nine individuals at the Canefeild Urban Council on Wednesday, field Officer at the Adult Education Division Francisca Joseph, said CVQ certification will soon be offered by CXC.
“We are working with CXC to offer Caribbean Vocation Qualification (CVQ) and we will be doing that on a regional level,” she said. “So if you do cooking or whatever it is that you do very well, you can get a certificate from a regional body to show that you have done so well and then you can take it anywhere.”
The Caribbean Vocational Qualification (CVQ) is a CARICOM approved award that represents achievement of a set of competencies which define core work practices of an occupational area.
Addressing the same function Chief Adult Education Officer Martha Andre encouraged the participants of the culinary program to inspire others to take similar courses.
“It is a joy to see what has been done in the past eight weeks,” she said. “I know with the facilitator you have there is lots more she would have loved to teach you,”
She said she was happy to see the course take place but was disappointed in the response. “It is true that most of us can cook something at home but at times we want to entertain friends … and you are thinking what can I do for them what can I give them,” she said. “When you can do things for yourself you save a lot of money.”
She told the participants to encourage other because “you are never too old to learn.”
