Father Franklyn Cufy

The Convent High School is getting set to host its annual Peace Assembly for Life on Friday.

The event will focus on the murders that took place in 2010 and a suicide that occurred one week ago.

Director of the Social Justice and Peace Committee, Father Franklyn Cuffy, said: “The focus will be on the 13 murders that took place in 2010 and the alleged suicide that took place two Sundays ago in Massacre.”

Father Cuffy said there is a state of anxiety in Dominica and persons are asking why a young person would take their life.

It would be better to stop dwelling in the past and strive to move onwards with steadfast faith and trust in God, as we learn to believe that He alone can pull us through, though!

Prevention is better than cure. There is nothing that we can do now, to bring the lives that were lost in whatever manner it happened, this past year. But we can deeply focus on the future, praying that God will reveal His plans of protecting our lives through our nature of trust, humility, and obedience to His commands by the guidance and teachings of His Holy Spirit.

As people of God, and, especially Christian leaders, we should be keeping our minds open, if at all God ‘s Holy Spirit is feeding this mind from conscience. That is the basic problem: God cannot do His work in us and through us, if we are not connected to Him by the power of His Holy Spirit.

Too many of us, who claim to be servants of God are ignorantly doing good works by our human strength, not realizing good works does not always give God the glory. Jesus told His disciples “I can of myself do nothing. As I hear, I judge; and my judgment is righteous, because I do not seek my own “will” but the “will” of the Father who sent Me”. John 5: 30

Jesus is saying that He cannot, and does not rely on the control of His human mind–I can of myself do nothing! In other words Jesus functioned solely according the wisdom and revelation of Christ–the authority of Eternal Spirit in Him. In other words Jesus functioned by the control of Love, the true state of His body–His conscience and mind of Spirit, Truth, and Holiness–“As I hear I judge and my judgement is righteous because I seek to do the will of the Father who sent Me”.

As Christian leaders in churches, schools, and other organizations in our community, unless we can practice the attitude of Jesus in the above verse, we continue to plant seeds of futility and we will reap vanity, strife, discord, destress, dispair; the list goes on and on.

We need to learn to recognize certain circumstances in our lives or around us, and to accept them as God’s discipline and training in us and among us, believing that God’s plan is to cause us to grow, to know and practice the Life of Love in Spirit and Truth–the only reason He allowed us to exist in the world.

But instead, for every little thing we embrace negativity, creating mountains out of molehills, as we give up on Life; and we start sleighing ourselves, our loved one, our community, and our country with the wicked sword–the degrading words of our tongue. It is always, always: Dominica is going down! Dominicans are corrupt! I am ashamed to be called Dominican! Young people this and young people that! I could go on and on with the “wicked mouthing” I have read about, against our people and our Dominica.

In the above article it is: “there is a state of anxiety in Dominica” Why? Because of the fact that one young person committed suicide; as if this has never happened anywhere else in the world, or it has never been heard of. Where is the “truth” in this statement; except that it simply discourages those of us who are more vulnerable–especially our younger ones, who has to face all sorts of challenges before they enter mature adulthood. What will this statement do to encourage young people to fight and conquer by their faith and trust in God?

If I did not know better and to rebuke those “sword of destruction” through the spoken words of the wicked tongues of fellow Dominicans, who do not think before they speak, I would sink into anxiety for my Dominica as well.

What good is all this for those of us who are trying to maintain Hope, by faith in God, for the future of our people and our country? Sometimes I believe it would do us much better if we did not participate in, or pay attention to those so-called functions and demonstrations. I am sorry, but that is the way I feel about all this empty ideas or hopeless plans, time and time again; year in and year out.

    Father Cuffy
Why aren’t you tackling the curroption issue as you did the abortion issue back in 2005.
    Why Father Cuffy?. Why?
Isn’t curroption as bad as abortion Fr. Cuffy.
Why do you clergy pick your battles.

Why the double standard Father. Why!?

Isn’t curroption a violation of truth as is abortion Fr. Cuffy?

May God give you the courage to do the right thing Fr. Cuffy

I agree “pope” and i’m catholic.

look now even the Pope and the Cardinals in
rome talking against the immorality and curroption in Italy’s government, but our local clergy is is too timid or too “tied up” to stand up against wrong.
        Its disheartening and discouraging
