Twenty-one computers and other school supplies were presented to the Ministry of Education on Thursday.

Schools to benefit from the supplies include Wotten Waven Primary, Soufriere Primary, Grandbay Primary, Kaleb John Laurent Primary in St Joseph, Coulibistrie Primary which received one desktop while the Bright Beginning Centre Preschool received one laptop.

The gesture was courtesy of the Dominica Health and Education Initiative (DAHEI).

DAHEI is a non-profit organization based in Boston whose aim is to assist the health and education sectors of Dominica.

The organization was founded by Dr. Ann Marie Laronde Richard and Farah Laronde Hutchinson who are both Dominicans along with other Dominicans based in the U.S and Dominica.

According to DAHEI representative in Dominica, Joycelyn Graham- Laronde, the members of DAHEI are elated to present the donation.

“We do hope that this will assist in the development of the schools,” she stated, at a handing over ceremony held in Bath Estate.

Graham said to date DAHEI has delivered medical supplies to the Roseau Health Centre as well as the lab of the Princess Margaret Hospital (PMH).

Chief Education Officer, Melena Fontaine said it is always a good thing when corperate citizens and non- profit organizations give back to education.

And according to Fontaine, school is what puts people on the path to success.

“That is where you gain your education, that is where you gain your knowledge, skills, the attitude to make you the kind of person that you really want to be and that you should be,” she said.

She encouraged other corporate citizens and non-governmental organizations to communicate with the Ministry of Education in terms of what that is needed and what they can give.

Ok. I am happy for those who received the computers. I have a concern though. I have been following stories on DNO regularly. I have noticed a rather troubling trend. Why does everything have to be to the schools in and around Roseau? What ever happened to the schools in the North and North East districts???

This is such an important gift to the schools.
A definite boost to their KSA (knowledge, skills, the aptitude), more avenues to explore learning. Thank you, thank you DAHEI You are in the Bouyon!.
