Another of this year’s top CSEC performers has credited hard work and the determined effort of her teachers and parents as the keys to her success.
Deania Laudat, daughter of Dave and Julia Laudat of Coulibistrie, recently graduated from the Isaiah Thomas Secondary School having achieved eight ones and one two at CSEC exams. She said that she anticipated her success based on the amount of work that had gone into preparation, with only a few surprises.
Laudat said, “I did expect to be successful at CSEC, however I was a bit surprised at some of the grades that I got, particularly Electricity and Geography. I attribute the success to study and hard work, my teachers, very good teachers and my classmates. I want to make specific mention of Mr. Samson, my biology teacher, because he was very influential in my success in that subject. Also Mr. Luke, my physics teacher and Mr. Graham, who is the best math teacher in the world. We also had a very good relationship in our class so we would help each other, if ever one of us was slipping.”
She continued, “My parents were very helpful. My mom was always there with a word of encouragement to perk me up and keep me going late into the night and my father helped me a lot with my SBAs and my English essays in preparation for the exams. So they were very influential in all of this.”
She went on to speak of her involvement in a number of extra-curricular activities, “As far as extracurricular activities, I’m a member of the Dominica Cadet Corps so I spend a lot of time doing that. I like dancing and singing and I love debating. I spent a lot of time with debate practice after school and volleyball practice as well.”
Laudat will attend the Dominica State College and will study in Chemistry, Biology and Physics as she continues her journey towards becoming a Pathologist.
Her advice for students who are currently preparing for future sittings of the exams is a consistent approach to studying and reviewing school work. She said, “You always have to be at it and if you consistently review, studying will be easier.”
She attained ones in Biology, Chemistry, Physics, English, Mathematics, Social Studies, Human and Social Biology and Electricity, with her only two coming in Geography.
