A first ever protocol and procurement workshop is among activities planned in observance of Cadet Corp Week.

Cadet Corps Week is being observed in Dominica this week under the theme “Cadetting, Develop your true potential”

Youth and Sports Minister Justina Charles in an address to officially commence the week of activities said the Dominica Cadet Corp is an avenue for growth, discipline and a breeding ground for well-rounded and positive young persons.

According to Charles, the Corp has seen the development of sons and daughters of the soil who have gone on to realize their true potential and can now count the activity as one of the contributors to their excellence.

She said, however, it is not a program where a parent sends her sons and daughters because they can no longer control them.

“It is not an avenue for displacing the role of parents in disciplining their children,” she cautioned.

Charles said the Dominica Cadet Corp is an organization which creates an environment where young persons are nurtured, taught and given the opportunity to grow.

The Youth and Sports minister also commended the police officers, teachers, nurses, shop keepers and ordinary citizens who she says give their time, money, energy and skills to cultivate a learning environment using their limited resources in order to ensure the young minds achieve their fullest potential.

“Development is not just about whether our bank accounts are filled or how many houses we can build. But of great importance is the development of our human resource capacity in contributing to the future of our children and grand children,” she remarked.

Charles said further that considering the global trend in the life of some of the youth, leading them to anti social behavior, the Dominica Cadet Corp stands resolute to provide an alternative for young persons in secondary schools to expend their energies in a useful and productive way.

The Cadet Programme has been a long standing contributor to the Dominican youth, now more than ever the need for stable, committed adults to step forward to nurture the young is pressing

The leaders of today MUST create and solidify the leaders of tomorrow

So many cadets have computers and they have not even posted anything about their own week. That speaks volumes about their commitment and enthusiasm. If they want the wider public to lend a hand of support they themselves must embrace this activity publicly as well so that others will see it worthy in investing their resources in making this program even greater.
