Aretha Cadette-Dublin, a past student of the Convent High school and Dominica State College, distinguished herself by attaining a near perfect GPA (3.949) and graduated from Monroe College with the highest Academic Honor – Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology.
The graduation ceremony was held in October, 2016 at the Sandals Grande St. Lucian Spa& Beach Resort, Gros Islet, St. Lucia.
The Bachelor’s (BS) degree program in Computer Information Systems (CIS) focuses on developing employable technologists. Monroe teaches students to apply what they have learned and to be adaptable in a constantly changing technological world.
Aretha Cadette-Dublin received the highest GPA in the faculty and was graced with the honor to bear the Faculty flag for the graduation ceremony.
She was twice on the President’s List (Fall Semesters of 2013 and 2015) and awarded certificates for such achievement. To be placed on the President’s List, which is the highest honor list, a GPA between 3.80 and 4.00 has to be attained. Initially the duration of the program was four years but with determination, perseverance and unwavering faith in God, she completed the program in two years.
The present employee of Governments Treasury Department attested to guidance from God and support from Family and said, “I am very grateful to God for this achievement, I am thankful to my loving and devoted parents (Davidson & Hazel Cadette), siblings (Vivian Jeremy, Tyron & Tyler Cadette) and my beloved husband (Lenin Dublin) who supported my dreams and encouraged me throughout my program”.
She continued, “I want to encourage everyone who may be in doubt in furthering their education, while in the process of getting your degree you may be overwhelmed, there will be days when you definitely feel like giving up, throwing in the towel, but guess what, there is a light at the end of the tunnel. Don’t forget God in all of this: pray, put God first, prioritize and surround yourself with like-minded people, persons that are winners and set themselves up for success, encourage yourself through positive affirmations, and trust God to get you through. God does all things well and I am a testimony to that”.
Several other Dominican students also enjoyed this momentous occasion and were awarded honors at the Commencement Ceremony.
Among those who achieved and received Academic Honors are, inter alia:

– Aretha L Cadette
