Dominican student to tackle geothermal issues at pageant

Lynthea Reefe

The University of the Southern Caribbean in Trinidad is embarking on its 6th Annual Scholarship Gala/Pageant of which Lynthea Reefe is participating as the Dominican Club delegate.  The theme for this year’s pageant is “Innovative Solutions”.

In light of this each delegate is to identify an issue within their country and find an innovative solution to resolving the issue.

The issue identified by the Dominican club is that of the high electrical utility rates in Dominica. Therefore the solution that Reefe would present is for the implementation of a geothermal plant in our country.  While investigations have been made into this energy alternative idea the club strongly believes that because of geothermal energy sustainability and potential, it can aid the country in its economic situation.

Reefe, 19, is an offspring from the roots of the beautiful village of Wesley of the ‘Nature Isle of the Caribbean,’ Dominica. She is an energetic, jovial, talented and down to earth individual who loves the Lord.  She is presently in pursuit of a Bachelors of Science degree in Biology and has the intention to become a Medical Doctor in the near future.

The date carded for the pageant is March 20th, 2011. Reefe is expected to present a paper on the said topic to the student body and administration. On the night of the show she is also expected to depict the topic in costume and talent.

In light of this Reefe and the Dominica club of the University of the Southern Caribbean crave your cyber support as we together promote and move Dominica forward.

pageants at the university are not as expressive as that at carnival, so don’t be to quick to judge mam. and one man’s meat is another’s poison.

      Ignorance should be a sin!!!
I am well familiar with said pageant, please do not allow the term to confuse you. Yes USC is a SDA university, the pageant is a scholarship initiative, if you see it you will know that it is very far from what we here in Dominica see in the queen shows and carnival. I anticipate a link to the pageant when it is airing so you to can view and learn.

It is a Scholarship Gala/ Pageant!!!!!

Sweetie, I can inform you that it is not what you defintie it to be. Like mentioned, it is a gala. But let’s look at the meaning of the term pageant (an elaborate representation of scenes from history etc). This is a scholarship pageant. SO it is nothing about modeling or anything of that sort. It entails doing a community project that relates to the given theme (Geothermal energy ), a display of talent using the same theme, a research paper, a research presentation and a question and answer segment. It is totally academia.

If we have given you the wrong impression, our sincerest apologies.

      Lynthea Reefe

      February 19, 2011

We are so confusing our young people. As a Seventh Day Adventist institution we can promote an educational scholarship without all of the additonal pageantry and gala details that it entails. You can fool some of the people for some of the time but you surely cannot fool all of the people for all of the time.
I attended this function last year and I was totally shocked at the level of worldiness that was exhibited at this “academia scholarship” programme. It was just a notch below what is displayed at the common queen shows etc.
Let us stop trying to engage in all of the activities of the world in a subtle way. Someone needs to cry out against such high levels of hypocrisy.

A highly scholarly paper and some debates etc would suffice the purpose of this, forget about the queen show segment the Sunday night.

Just by the way you opened with your judgemental sentence explains exactly what that sort of nonesense go on in DA.

There are too many finger pointing, bad mouth talking, judgemental people in DA who take it upon themselves to be judge and jury about everything. I want to know “who died and made you and them god?”

Go young lady regardless of whatever university you attend and don’t allow any of those hypocrites to steal your dreams. Best wishes!

This is time for us to look at what we are doing …….

Revelation 11:18  And the nations were angry, and thy wrath is come, and the time of the dead, that they should be judged, and that thou shouldest give reward unto thy servants the prophets, and to the saints, and them that fear thy name, small and great; and shouldest destroy them which destroy the earth.

The possibilty also exist for dominica to move from being and energy importer to be an energy exporter. I mean look at the energy exporting countries in the world they are never poor. We have something going4 us that my help in that we would be an energy exporting island, with a faily diversified economy. Clean energy that can use to power out tourism industry (hotels a possible marina ect), agricuture industry ( i saw a country powering green houses and irrigation works with geothermal energy)….

to Pm Skerrit amm your boy, but i find we taking long on this!!

The govt. needs to ‘get with it’ on developing the geothermal energy in DA. Iceland has the expertise. What’s the excuse ministers?
You want development here, get some electricity……..cheap reliable electricity.

this is a great topic for discussion…at least now we Dominicans can see the way beyond the shadows and recognise this idea is a means of only placing us on the global market….reducing the cost of living on a national level with only using the resources that are available to us……but big up to our very good ambassadors out of dominica
