OH MONROE. They are good. I studied with UWI, thanks but I do not recommend them to anyone, very student unfriendly except to force you to pay up on fees they keep raising monthly. My daughter is at Monroe and I am waiting for the graduation next year, we are on top. Three times on the President’s. We are doing it big. And yes is all night hard work and no support from mayor or government. We like to be independent so that no man jack can bully us into what we do not want. And Sir Max Andrew, thank you because some people did not believe me on this on.
uwi*
Base on my research monroe is more accredited than uwi…………….you even not all that. that school poor, dont care about their students, environment nasty, school ready to come down……………..fix them old building……………….
Max Andrew please !!!!!!
Max Andrew says:
The discussion isn’t about which university is better…its about the students who worked hard and achieved success. Let’s congratulate them. The only downside to this is that the males are falling behind. A trend confirmed for over 2 decades now. On another note, the current trend is to engage more and more people into the education process. And hence the reason why all universities, both big and small all over the world are offering distance education via online means..It’s cheaper and reaches more students. UWI attempted a few years ago to establish a campus in the Atlanta area because of the large number of Caribbean nationals who resides there. But it didn’t meet with success for the simply reason that it didn’t meet the accreditation requirement of the State of Georgia. A lot (the majority of our tertiary institutions in the region, inc. UWI are not accredited by anyone or any agency. UWI was established by UK Royal Charter in 1962 and before that it operated as an overseas college of the University of London (UOL) just as the East ad west African universities which were formally overseas colleges of the UOL. It’s only now we are mandated by CARICOM to establish Accreditation Agencies or Boards or Coucils so as to create a Regional Accreditation body to accredit our regional and national tertiary institutions. So the answer is that UWI is NOT accredited even thought its a centre of excellence and widely accepted all over. Lastly, accreditation is a voluntary process. And that there is a difference between Accredited and Recognised. When u are accredited, it means an external body inspects you against measurable and acceptable standards of excellence and then determines that you have met those standards and you are given accreditation for a given period of time. This process is an ongoing one. One can have it and then lose it. One can work hard and obtain it.
Good Luck and god’s blessing to all our graduates from Monroe, China, USA, UWI, Cuba and wherever else .
Amen to that Max….
Well said Max Andrew. I find that Caribbean people want all institutions to fit ONE mould. They tyranny of sameness. Any new institution that attempts to distinguish itself -like Monroe College – is immediately branded as inadequate. The best approach is to look at every institution by itself…what makes it the special place it is.
For a paper to be truly accepted as valid it has to be validated among peers both internal and external. Please tell me apart from the shitty internal journal how many UWI graduates get accepted to international bodies and conferences. I rest my case . UWI is crap.
CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR SISTER JEMMA JULIEN!!!!. we admire your great perseverance and determination to succeed, You have been our model. we love and admire you highly.
CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR SISTER JEMMA JULIEN!!!!! Your great determination and perserverance have contrtibuted to your success at this time. Thank you for being our great mentor and model. We love you Jemma and admire your success….
Wishing you God’s continued blessings too! .
I extend special congratulations to Elma Boland on your great achievement. You have been a real model of determination. It paid you well at the end. Congratulations once again!! :
Congratulations to ALL the dominicans that have excelled in their studies at a very fine institution such as the MONROE college. DEILA DAVIS and JEMMA JULIEN, a very SPECIAL congratulations to you guys as well for obtaining SUMMA CUM LAUDE.Dominica is safe in Jemma and Deila’s hands. That is the highest of honors one can recieve. youve made us as a NATION very very very proud.
Well congratulations to all, but I am hoping that the Dominica State College can begin offering recognised BSc and MBA degrees within the next two to four years.
I think the State and the families of these kids could have saved some serious monies and these kids could have had a part-time jobs in Dominica giving them an advantage in acquiring real working experience.
Another point we should bear in mind – the amounts spent by Government of Dominica to assist kids with economic costs to colleges such as this one could have well been spent on paying better salaries to the DSC and attracting better qualified lecturers as well.
This suggestion may be unpopular, but government should freeze these scholarships to these overseas colleges for another three years to lay the foundation in order to recruit excellent faculty for our own state college to make our tertiary institutions more competitive and enabling many more of our citizens the opportunity to access higher education at an affordable price as well as allowing the banks and credit unions to offer special education loans. That can also have business places contributing to the college and receiving a tax break.
To my mind this will be a better utilisation of funds with greater positive outcomes for our Nation.
Your point is very valid and should be taken into consideration, However it is not applicable to these students mentioned above. The scholarships that SOME of us attained were given by the institution itself and not from the governement of Dominica. Others were either assisted by family members or took some sort of loan.
congratulations to Elma, u did very well, keep up the hard work!!!!
Goodwill massive congrats to Jemma Julien !!!
You have indeed made us proud. we admire your great fortitude to succeed. May God’s richest blessings be upon you always. Congratulations to all the other graduants. You have made yourselves, your families and Dominica very proud. CONGRATULATIONS !!!!
wel done ladies we need more like you all to continue building dominica, congrats.
I’m proud of you all Congrats!
CONGRATES TO MY SISTER SONDRA….so proud of you… Keep up the good work!
All the best! LOVE U
Well done miss La Touche, you really made me smile. I am so proud of you and you already know that. The journey has just begun.
That is simply not true UWI degrees are recognised all over the world in England and the US even more so than Monroe college. Monroe college is a private college that is not even highly regarded in the US. Please !!!!!!!!! Dont get me started. You do well at UWI and you shine anywhere in the world. Monroe, University of Phoenix – these colleges are private institutions that put a high price on a degree and advertise they are not highly regarded. One would be better off going to a public CUNY college. Do your research people.
Tell them whoever you are, It’s a Tech college. When they first started they wasn’t even an acceriteded school. Hope their degrees hold up.
There is a difference between MONROE COLLEGE and MONROE COMMUNITY COLLEGE. please do some research
You need to do your research fool ! You are mixing up Monroe Community COllege and Monroe you fool !
You sorry fool! UWI is teh caribbeans’ biggest white elephant. Their graduate are silo thinkers and cannot measure up to the well rounded graduates. the UWI Degree is NOT recognized in the US and Canada. Even in the UK the request leveling courses. You complete a UWI masters and yo u need to do an extra year before you can be admitted in the PHD programme. I know I have been through the system. They just need to shut down UWI. UWI is not progressive. Even the online programme is really a distance programme and not an ONline one ..
the*
For a paper to be truly accepted as valid it has to be validated among peers both internal and external. Please tell me apart from the shitty internal journal how many UWI graduates get accepted to international bodies and conferences. I rest my case . UWI is crap. Please prove where UWI is accepted in the US and Canada. I have been through both systems and I can tell you for a fact that is not the case with UWI. My cousin graduated with a degree in pharmacology at UWI and when he migrated to Canada. Even thought he was practicing for years in the Caribbean he had to go to school for two years to even practice there. You do the research and stop spreading lies. UWI is crap.
Fam Dominique woollay eh…where the men? Too bad for dem where they choose to be…you will get them to wash ur cars and mow your lawn..hope dey don’t watch u cross eyes after your stuggles to reach where u choose to go. Tell dem keep playing swag and cool and smoking fatman…later will be greater!!
congrats kaya you have gone a long way girl!!!
Congrats Latoya yeah!!!!!!
Waaay to go Delia Davis, you made a difference in your family
Congrats to the students but are there any other degrees?? Seems they all pretty much major in the same area. Hope they find jobs jobs jobs!!
Congratulations to all on thier achievements
On another note do we need to trash UWI to promote another school? UWI is archaic and should really get with the times, but MONROE with all due respect in speaking of colleges is not part of the conversation either. Payless and Nine West both make shoes, however they are not on par, and then Nine West is no Vince Camuto or Christian Louboutin.
These days you don’t even have to live your room to get a first class degree from a top tier university they are all online.
Congrats Ladies. Well done.
Stop dissing UWI everybody, it’s the frame of mind of the people who go to these universities. UWI teaches persons to be critical thinkers, though. This is not the topic at hand anyhow. I am proud of the Dominican ladies.
Congrats Rhanda and Amanda! You’ve made us all proud. Congrats to the others who graduated as well.
Congrats girls, you made yourselves and your family proud and also your fellow citizens of Da. Thumbs up !
hey I went to school with half those girls… congrat to all of them!
im proud of u randz
Beautiful keep it up . keep moving to the top this is not the end . keep making your parent fill good . I love you all , we need you all to keep our sweet Dominica going .
Congratulations to these women. I concur Dominica have the most beautiful and intelligent women on the planet. I am not joking.
Anyway according to an Observation made by the Great Derek “hunter” St.Rose while our women are succeding the young men are joking Karl. All i see are ladies where are all the young men gone. Not taking anything away from the ladies, but it is an alarming trend when out of all the names mentioned i do not see one guy in there. Where are the roll models in Dominica. I think every man in DA should aske themselves a question.
Again: Well done ladies teach the guys a lesson.
Special congratulations to Dilia Davis for her excellent performance. That sort of performance should be emulated and cherished. You will do extremely well as God continues to bless you. You have made your family proud, and we all love you.WC
Congrats to my cousin Shirnel Labone on such a great accomplishment. You made the family so proud. Also congrats to my co-worker Sharissa from all of us at the office. Well done ladies.
My My My Monroe is doing it again, I have had the distinct pleasure of doing some studies there and trust me, unlike UWI the programmes are geared at helping students to succeed not fail. Congratulations to all of you for staying on track during your studies. Saint Lucia is indeed the Helen of the West.
CONGRATULATIONS JEMMA JULIEN.. I’ve Seen u grow up from since you were young. The future of Dominica is only getting clear. Dominica does have very intelligent people. Congrats to all the dominicans especially Jemma Julien
Congrats ladies! on to the next level for you all…job hunting which is the biggest headache…thank you Lord for online studies so i can stay in Dominica, work and do my studies at the same time
Congrats
Congrats to all. Many of you got a solid foundation at DSC on which you could build.
Well done!
Congrats ladies. Wonder if they will be employed in Dominica? On another note, 389 students graduated from Dominica State College… where are they going? It’s good to be graduating, but another thing to actually find a job, esp in your country.
I know government can’t do everything, but these people need jobs… and the best thing to know is that the government is doing everything possible to foster an environment for investment and growth in order to attract businesses to and grow industries in Dominica — so that these young folks can put their education to good use. So both the ruling gov’t and opposition need to come together for the good of the country and get the country rolling. St. Lucia is far ahead of us, and we can’t sit and wait for handouts anymore! Let’s move Dominica forward!
How are you to support this notion that st. Lucia is far ahead of us. Where can i find the research made by you or someone else that states and supports you claims. In the times of evidence based practice – practice stating facts and figures… St. Lucia has universities… what percentage is made up of lucians? What you are not seeing is that we Dominicans dont come back home when we go out to study… but Lucians far ahead of us… my hypothesis…not so.
how many of you guys coming back to DA??????????????????????
We’re all in Dominica!
Most of them graduated in the area to find jobs in the Hotel Industry. Does D.A have enough to accomodate them. Hospitality do you know what that mean?
congrats vernella and alexia and all the others, but you two in particular…… keep up the struggle
Congraulations on a job well done.
CONGRATS SHERNELLE. WELL DONE
well done Congrats to u all and thanks for making us all Dominican proud
Congrats to Alexia Orle and Vernella Orle Mwah!

Congrats to my girl Dilia!! I’m so proud of you!! Continue striving for the best!!
Congrats Sharissa!!!!
Congrats Jemma !!! I am indeed very proud of you . You have made it in grand style. Thank God for being so Good all the time. Be of good cheer and wishing you continued success. We are all proud of you. Thanks.!!!
does anybody see the problem down the road for dominica……………..all of these graduates have business degrees. what about the other fields like engineering and health and math and sciences.
I strongly agree with you Kevin. Business Degrees, where are the engineering, health, math and science degrees?. I observe the womean graduating, where are the men?. No wonder the country lacks innovation and creativity.
Can’t you just say congrats n be done with it…jah boi..typical Dominicans
congrats but where are the male graduates. Are we falling that far behind!
Check them on the BLOCK and Street corners in Roseau
They are walking the streets with their pants way below their butts.
iS IT ONLY ME THAT SEES A PROBLEM DOWN THE ROAD WITH THE LARGE MAJORITY OF GRADUATES BEING WOMEN?
Well done ladies but wait, where are the men? Causing trouble, smoking, fighting, and dealing drug!Shame Shame Shame.
some of us men are bussing our brqins too.
Guys you did great. Thank God he gave you the brains. Thank Him for his blessings. Now go out and prove yourselves worthy.
congrats sondra well done !!!!!!!!!!!! congrats sonia
Congrats all. Thanks to the Prime Minister for affording these student scholarship to go and futher their education. Well done.
Not all of us received any scholarship from the government OR any form of assistance!
Folks dont just assume things especially when you know nothing just be happy for them if not keep your comments to youself as far as I am concern these young folks have made me very proud so Congratulations to every one of them .
u guilty nah
lol lol where did you get that information,i know a few of these ladys and the government didnt give one cent.
For your information, none of them were on Prime Minister Skerrit’s student scholarships!!!! Few were given Monroe College scholarships and nothing from the government so please get your information straight! Majority of the people there took loans and/or money from their pockets to do their necessary studies!
Thats right mate. The majority of the girls took a loan to finance their studies and with added assistance from parents and family. I can attest to that.
y get more info on your answer, because the mayor did gave some full and some half sholarship
None of these studentS were awarded scholarship. Stop giving thE Govt credit tHey don’t deserve
Proud of my boos Sondra and Jemma…. Congratulations!!!!!!

Congrats to all the students. Job well done. Well done Kaya Cuffy. The Cuffy’s are great it seems.
Congratulations to all
yea and where the jobs for them?
Congratulations to all the students on their achievements.
One Love Dominicans
congratulations!!!!
i heard through the grapevine that managers in lots of d/can companies… who have degrees from U.W.I… does secretly grudge those who come for jobs from other schools holding the same or more degrees… because they feel that U.W.I is better and there’s no way, they’ll bring u in to take them off their chair….
Grudge? My friend I am not a UWI graduate but the American system is very easy compared to the sound education of UWI so any dog and cat can go there and do well.
This is not a true statement. I am a student of uwi, and uwi offers a lot of thory education. Their lectures are not studnt friendly and this is why their pass mark is 45%
Uwi needs to offer more practical learning and hands on because when u graduAte as uwi student u should most likly have an office job because u will go on a work sit and be lost at most unless u forget about ur big degree and start working from scratch n getting experience. The agriculture students has yet to se a field at my campus…
It is obvious that you are not a graduate at all so seat down and shut up
UWI is not better…when u go to america with that they tell you its not considered a degree and when you go to the Uk they tell you is a half degree you have…UWI just taking people money for crappy service….no one on one attention…if you don’t show up they don’t care…thats why i love me some monroe.
WHile I agree that UWI’s method of education is not practical enough, it is not true that UWI degrees are not regarded. In fact they are highly regarded. My secretarial diploma from UWI in addition to Sixth form college (Secretarial) saved me two semesters in a USA university. We need to stop being so ignorant. And not wanting to diss any particular university but when choosing universities in the US, you have to look at their acreditation, how many published professors they have, tenured professors and all those things. How many of their freshmen go all the way through. All these things make a difference.
Also, one the reasons some of them offer scholarships and low tuition (in-state) to caribbean and other foreign nationals is to attract students because the schools are not highly accredited.
this is an absolute lie and you need to stop. I went to school in the US and all of us from the Caribbean that were doing the MBA were UWI first degree graduates. do you think we would have had the credits to enter the MBA program if not recognised??
So true they really think that UWI is the only way to go! Lmao thank God for all the other online universities that are even more compatible than UWI. They were always bringing down the online universities now UWI have majority of it courses online. Chupes some low minded people who think UWI is it!
But what people see behind UWI? UWI is not even mentioned in the report. Are you jealous of UWI grads? Just apply there, you might get through. You could be a a UWI grad too.
I started my first degree at St. Augustine and quickly released that this was a waste of time. NONE of my credits transferred when I went to the US. They will take the degree as entry requirement but you WILL not transfer credits nor will your status be on Par with someone who should be on the same level as you. This is not hear say this is living fact having started in UWI and done a degree and masters in the US.ok bud man
UWI courses are not even online. Yous till have to go to the dirty run down open campus to watch videos. It is a distance programme not an online programme.
If it was ot highly accredited why did you leave UWI and go to the US?? US schools are designed for you to be open minded, progressive and do well if you apply yourself unlike UWI that is still draconian and stuck in the era of the 70’s talking prestige with no substance.Have you ever been to the nasty run down St. Augustine campus. How many of the UWI graduates are published in international journals or professional circuits. Chew on that.
BIG UP TO MY GILR KAYA…………….IM PROUD…..BONE BIG UP TO U TOO
go cuzo u done good @sondra latouche
Congrats to all on your success
is the campus is St Lucia…or was this a virtual campus of Monroe college?
in St. Lucia
Congrats Sondra!!!!
