Dominican to pursue post graduate studies in tourism

Dominican Mesach George is one of many nationals from across the Caribbean to benefit from scholarships offered by the Caribbean Tourism Organization (CTO) Sholarship Foundation in 2012.

George will pursue post-graduate studies in Tourism with Project Management at the UWI’s Cave Hill Campus in Barbados.

“The initiative is part of CTO’s commitment to developing the region’s human resource capacity and supporting a well-trained, competent and efficient work force so that the region can be globally competitive,” said Bonita Morgan, CTO’s director of human resources.

The Foundation has awarded scholarships to the tune of over US$35,000 to successful applicants from the Bahamas, Barbados, Dominica, Guyana, Jamaica, and St. Kitts who are pursuing post graduate studies at various educational institutions within and outside the Caribbean, according to a release.

A total of $29,400 was plugged into grants and awarded to applicants from Antigua & Barbuda, Barbados, Dominica, Grenada, Jamaica and Trinidad and Tobago.

Those interested in the CTO Scholarship Programme and want to see the list of scholarship and grant recipients should visit www.onecaribbean.org.

Well! Invest Dominica? What does it really do? I am an impartial bystander but have met a great deal of outsiders (non Dominican) who have taken the right course to go to Invest Dominica for help with amazing money making ideas!!! They go to Invest Dominica to do everything correctly and get all the incentives they need from Invest Dominica! Well shock horror, nothing at all ever happens they sometimes never get a reply ever!! Certainly no follow up. How on earth do the employees of Invest Dominica earn their money??

I have heard this so many, many times. What are the employees doing? Playing Dominoes me thinks! LOL

Sadly our tourism course at the college needs major renovation, when you meet them in various businesses they know all about how to take a booking and or answer a phone, but can’t take a drink order, make a bed or serve at table.
We need more indians and fewer chiefs!
If you wish to get a job in tourism, 90% of the time you are not behind a desk wearing slippers. You’re facing customers, on a boat, in the forest or at table or bar. Our “Tourism graduands” don’t have a clue about any of that.
If they can excel at those day to day tasks, then maybe they can be moved to front desk, but don’t come in spouting that you did such n such and have so and so piece of paper, you have no skills.

To DNO Editor. The first comment to this article is by someone going by the name of “Really!”. I read the comment over and over and can’t make sense out of it. I am hard-pressed to understand why you often hold back so many well-meaning comments yet you allow this foolishness by “Really!” to be released. Are his comments related to the article about Tourism studies? Does his article add value to reading? I think you need to step up, bro.
