Minister for Culture, Youth and Sports Justina Charles has made a call to the 2013 graduating class of the Dominica State College (DSC) to move forward with the mindset of reform.
364 students of the DSC said their final good bye to the institution on Wednesday 16th October, 2013. One Bachelors of Science degree and 347 associate degrees were conferred by President of the college Dr Donald C. Peters. 27 students also received certificates.
Charles, who was representing the Minister for Education Petter St Jean at Wednesday’s ceremony said “you are seating here today because you have grasped the opportunity to take one of the turns on the education highway that will lead you further in your quest to succeed. Graduating class, the goals of the Dominica State College include providing students with the foundation, knowledge and skills to pursue further academic training; providing students with the skills for self-development and with the ability to compete successfully and find gainful employment.”
She added further achievement of these goals means that the seeds of reform have already been planted in them.
“Despite all physical, structural and infrastructural changes that may be implemented within the education system, you must also play your part in the reform process. Those of you who will be seeking employment, it is imperative that reform takes place in your attitudes towards work and in your attitudes at work,” she said.
Charles urged the students to think outside of the box, demonstrate initiative and be bold to move from the field of studies that everyone else is pursuing. She noted that they should think reform and choose the fields that will help to continue building your country and the region.
Valedictorian Denzel Guye, in his message to the students, said “we must remember that every action is an opportunity for learning. Though we may have fallen along the way we have had the opportunity for new beginnings each day …with God and the boldness to take action and persevere, we will ascend to greatness.”
The commencement ceremony took place on the grounds of the new State College.

“we must remember that every action is an opportunity for learning. Though we may have fallen along the way we have had the opportunity for new beginnings each day …with God and the boldness to take action and persevere, we will ascend to greatness.”>>>The valedictorian spoke with a higher level of maturity and intelligence than the president of the Dominica State College (DSC) Dr Donald Peters who stated, “don’t believe the people in society who say it is okay in the 21st century to aspire to be a prime minister of a country without ever going to college”.
Education and wisdom comes in many forms and we should admire persons who may made it there business to educate themselves. Don’t discriminate, pull down or judge anyone before you’ve given them the opportunity to prove themselves. Go out there and be the best you can be. Mr Peter>>>YOU WILL NOT TELL THESE FREE THINKING INDIVIDUALS WHAT TO THINK!!!!Bias smh
Seems like some of the students was not interested in what was going on any way; they was checking their phones.
Is this when we a going to see the PM open the suitecase with the 500 jobs because these young people need to be working not many of them have families in the diaspora to go too.
