DSC organizes retreat to evaluate tourism-related programmes

The Dominica State College engages key tourism-industry stakeholders in a retreat at the Springfield Guest House on Wednesday, 3rd February, 2010.

The aim of the retreat is to evaluate current tourism related education and training programmes offered by the College and generate ideas for improving their quality.

The Dominica Agricultural and Industrial Development Bank is in full support of this pursuit for higher quality education and training, and is providing significant financial support for the retreat.

Miss Loris Crawford, an accomplished consultant in Hospitality Training, has been contracted to guide the deliberations at the retreat. Miss Loris Crawford is currently professor at the School of Hospitality Management and the Culinary Arts, Monroe College, New Rochelle, New York. She is very experienced in matters pertaining to Tourism Planning, Destination Management and Hotel Operations, Cultural Heritage Tourism, Vocational and Customer Service Skills Training. As a Certified Hospitality Educator, Miss Crawford is well positioned to guide the group in:

•    Selecting key areas for examination
•    Setting clear objectives for the evaluation
•    Addressing the concerns and recommendations stakeholders
•    Synthesising the results of the evaluation into an action plan for taking the DSC programmes to a higher level

•    Tour Operators
•    Tour Guide Association
•    Vendor Association
•    DDA
•    DSC Staff
•    DSC Tourism Studies Students
•    Combined Taxi Association
•    Bureau of Standards
•    Environmental Health Unit
•    Police Tourism Unit
•    Forestry & Wildlife Division

There will be an opening ceremony from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. which sets the stage for a successful retreat. The ceremony will be addressed by:

•    Hon. Peter St. Jean, Minister for Education & Human Resource Development
•    Mr. Sobers Esprit, Member of the TTAC
•    Mr. Hubert Charles, Former President of DSC
•    Ms. Loris Crawford, Facilitator

    How can a retreat to get things more enhanced be based on the opinion of ONE “certified” individual?
