DSC president wants completely new board

DSC President Dr. Donald Peters

President of the Dominica State College (DSC) Dr. Donald Peters says he would favor a completely new board to the institution.

“Where I see the need for change I will make those changes together with the new board,” he said, adding that the changes should be in place by the end of this week.

The old board, according to Dr. Peters, “has expired, literally.”

“I would like a new board. Dominica state college has had four presidents in eight years and that is not very good,” he said.

According to the president, DSC – like any other college out there – is measured by the achievements of the administration and the people who own it. He cited “persistent” problems like “leaderless” personnel and by extension the entire institution, are serious matters for the institution.

“What is important to me is that I get a board that can work with me to move this college forward,” Dr. Peters said.

AFTER DR. YANKEY (MAY HIS SOUL REST IN PEACE) DR. PETERS IS THE BEST THING THAT EVER HAPPENED TO DOMINICA STATE COLLEGE.
You are right about Dr.Yankey, thus far he was the best president that the DSC has had. But linking him to Dr.Peters whose service record is littered with NEGATIVES, doing a diservice to Dr.Yankey’s memory. NO WAY CAN THE TWO BE COMPARED.

Dig deeper and you may not like what you find! Neither have been a credit to this institution. Take the politics out of education and bring someone in who the youth can look up to.

The DSC new President should concern himself with improving the good grades that the DSC Graduates are currently getting, expanding the college to include a Portsmouth/Northern Campus, improving and expanding the college’s library/research library capacity, as well as improving the college ICT/Computer Science Resources, Agricultural Training, fully implementing the CAPE and the CXC Associate Degree Programs, job search assistance for college graduates and ACCREDITATION, etc rather than be worried about the Board of Directors of the College and its staff…Sir do not try to eat the cake you do not have in your plate.

I believe based on your experience, Mr. College President, you have the capacity to do a good job but please…dont forget team work and respect for people. Anyway what ever happens I hope your new board will be ready to take the DSC to the next level…

CLEANSING. CLEANSING AT THE DSC. THE TIME HAS COME. GO DR.. PETERS GOD BE WITH YOU. YOUR INTENTIONS ARE ALL GOOD. ALL THOSE WHO OPPOSE YOUR DOINGS ARE THE SAME ONES WHO STAND BY THE WAYSIDE AND SAY THAT THEIR KIDS WILL NEVER ATTEND THE DOMINICA STATE COLLEGE. SOME CALL IT THE DOMINICA STATE OF CONFUSION. NO MATTER WHAT YOU DO PEOPLE WILL ALWAYS TALK. GO WITH YOUR CONSCIENCE. GOD BLESS

First of all, I did not know the Dominica State College was a private institution owned by Dr. Peters.

Second, a new board does not mean a good board. Picking a set of your peers who you know will agree with every decision you make is not the solution to the problem. In any case, you need people with experience and not just a bunch of amateurs.

Third, when you think of the kinds of problems which exists at the college, try beginning with why the number of entrants have declined significantly. Start with the mess which exists every registration period. Start with the unavailability of professors and classes which never know when they will begin.

There are many issues which can be reconciled without the board. At the board level, you are going to take much deeper decisions which will affect the college such as ensuring it remains an accreditied institution. Change must always be handled carefully. We must not change for changing sake. We need to weigh the pros and the cons and make informed and beneficial decisions.

When you want to leave you mark in any area, be sure it is a positive mark. The college needs a lot of improvement and I would expect that someone with your level of education will surely bring that improvement to the institution. I just hope you take time and make good decisions for mutual benefit.

this man doesn’t have any thing good to offer and is going about talking about the Board of Governors with a lack of respect…when he takes all his directives from the Board of Governors. Seems the respect from employee to supervisor/employer is not apparent.

Don’t understand why he is on DNO sanctioning a new Board of Governors when he knows jolly well he has no place doing such. Change is good but change cannot be sanctioned by Dr. Peters. What does he think? This is just madness. Seems he doesn’t have enough work to do, that’s the reason he is on DNO speaking rubbish! I think his time would be better spent focusing on getting the college better teaching materials that the out dated stuff that are presently there. Better working environments for students because all of the things there are in a state that are just out of this world. Yet he finds the time to be on DNO speaking jazz…honestly, I would have fired him right away. Sanctioning a new board for what? Never heard this before. Total disregard for heirachy and the chain…utter disrespect!

Y’all need to be more organised and put decent measures in place to move this college forward cause i think and believe (and i’m speaking as a student of the college) that rhe college is not organised…..so organised better y’all leadership and managerial skills.

  10. leaderless” personnel ?
    September 17, 2010

What kind of leadership example is he setting, for the so called leaderless personnel. I would think that the hallmark of a good president or manager, would be to identify the issues and help those leaderless” personnel , to find the way by leading the example, training those leaderless” personnel , showing them what the issues are, making a plan with the leaderless” personnel and ensuring that these leaderless” personnel by the time he is finished are no longer LEADERLES

    September 17, 2010

This is getting beyond boring and tedious. What is wrong with the man? he needs to listen to the students and fix up the environment for learning so that the students can be happy, They do not care about administration, They want clean and comfortable classrooms and instructors who care.
let it go Dr.Peters. You are beginning to sound like a broken record and someone who has a grudge.

Maybe the new president does not understand why Colleges need Boards, that are not of the Presidents choosing. I Thought he worked in the USA, if he did he would be aware how Boards are constituted and the functions of Boards. Maybe he wants his cronnies and friends to be in the Board, that way he can do whatever he wants.
I personally Know Dr. Gerald Grell, and he has an excellent reputation in the region and his Board has accomplished much for the DSC. This in in comparison to the new President whose reputation academically within the region and in the USA leaves much to be desired.
And here it was I thought that to move the College forward everyone had to work together, Board, President, Administration Faulty and Students. maybe I am wrong, only the President can move the College forward. DON’T THINK SO!
