Ebenezer SDA Primary School says no to bullying

Students of the Ebenezer Seventh Day Adventist Primary school staged a march on Friday as part a strategy to tackle the problem of bullying.

The march started on the school’s compound in Goodwill, up Federation Drive onto Lindo ParK, down the link road onto Hillsborough Street.

Organizers say the event was organized to sensitize students and the public on the issue of bullying, which is a growing problem in Dominica.

Bullying occurs when a person or group repeatedly tries to harm someone who is weaker or who they think is weaker. Bullying consists of three basic types of abuse – emotional, verbal, and physical.

During the march students shouted “No to bullying at SDA,” “Up with Jesus, down with bullying,” and “Don’t be a bully, be a friend.”

Teachers and students think the messages sent should have a positive impact on the entire community. They also hope that the whole of Dominica will embrace and support these messages.

Great job by the SDA school for bringing bullying into the spotlight..If the root of bullying is killed at that level our society will be much better for it.. Our LEADERS, EMPLOYERS etc will turn out better…It is amazing how our institutions are plagued with bullies..They get a ‘high’ from making persons lives miserable.

There is something about these SDA people that speaks to our heart. While we cannot always put our fingers on it, something tells us that their teachings and beliefs are true. Like every other community of believers, there are some among them that disgrace the flock but the teachings of this faith-community come closer to the Bible than any other faith-community in Dominica. I have been to their services on a couple of occasions and you can feel the intense of the teachings and preachings. So this march by the youth is great. The church is preparing them for leadership roles in the next decade.

Hope the message on Bullying is preached at the SDA CHURCHES this Saturday and at other churches this Sunday..The message needs to be extended to all at the services as part of the intense teachings and preachings.

While we’re at it we need to enforce rules that prohibit teachers from beating children too. This old barbaric British slavery rules need to go.
