Government will address concerns of NEC – Gloria Shillingford

A window in need of repairs at the school

Parliamentary Representative for the Wesley constituency Gloria Shillingford has given government’s commitment that the concerns of the North East Comprehensive School (NEC) will be addressed.

The Parent Teachers Association of the North East Comprehensive School staged protest action Monday, claiming that their children are placed in an environment that is not conducive to learning.

But Shillingford disagreed with the protest action. “I do not endorse people protesting against themselves. Keeping children away from schools is a form of education children abuse. All children should be at school. The building is there, albeit that some repairs are needed but it is there, teachers are at work and universal education is a right for all children so I endorse all children being at school,” she said.

Shillingford said that last year government spent over $50,000.000 on repairs to the facility.

“I am aware that repairs are needed to certain part of the physical structure however some repairs have been done to the tune of over $50,000.00 at the school and that happened just last year. We also have to appreciate that the school is just about six years old. That school was termed as a state of the art in the Caribbean so all of what is happening, cannot be the fault of the education ministry,” she said.

Shillingford has asked parents and students to appreciate what have been done “and what will continue to be done”.

The school is located on a hill which gets a lot of sea breeze, the salt from the sea can cause lots of damages(not implying that’s what broke the window)who voted to put Glor as parl Rep, you all did . I personally believe that she could do more for her constituent. It is True that glor was an excellent teacher, bu she is cleary failing at her job as a parl Rep. Say what you all may about Athenia Bengamin she would have done a fat better Job. Athenia is passionate about her country and her village. she would have done alot more for you all . I guess that’s what you all get for putting Glr there. She ahs a different agenda. sorry Glor but i had to be transparent.

There has been vandalization at the school. There are many schools older than that and are in better conditions. The students need to be held accountable for damaging things..I mean before if we had written on a desk we were pinalised. So things need to be monitored.
However, the situation is there now..so they need to deal with it. Cant have children getting wet and in all those kind of poor conditions. Fix up then make persons responsible to ensure the safety of property be it be students, teachers or security officers. And let’s move on

Gloria, at this point, the only address that should take place is the complete renovation of the building, nothing else matters at this time!

There is nothing to talk about here.

I am shocked, that you are from the Village of Wesley, and you allow the School to fall into such an broken down dilapidated state, that is a disgrace, and a strike against you!

There is no excuse for that!

DNO, I hope that my comments here will not be censored like my first opinion I wrote, which was posted, and shortly there after removed.

That action is called censoring. We exist in a democracy, and unless what someone say is threatening , or abusive, or go the rout of character assassinating, I do not see the need for censoring.

Unless we let our officials, politicians, and the people we elect know when they are not doing what they are elected to do, they, tends to become complacent believing all is well.

In the meanwhile what happened in Wesley, resonates all over the country. We cannot allow any decay in the infrastructure of our country.

School buildings are part of our nations’ infrastructure, and any such decay, means the decay in the ability of our students to learn under such circumstances!

Someone may have suggested that you delete what I said, nonetheless, blood , or simply good acquaintance is not a good reason enough for me or anyone to remain silent when I can see that she has neglected her constituency, and I know lots of people in Wesley who feels the same way.

I spoke to several people in the village during the course of the day yesterday, and last night, and with the exception of two people, everybody I spoke with expressed their disappointment with her, and she must know that, and understand her responsibility.

If my comments are not palatable, and appreciated, no skin off my tooth, as long as I know that what I want is to see a complete renovation of the school in the interim, and not addressing the issue with mere talk.

AM OF THE OPINION THAT STUDENTS AND OTHER PERSONS WHO USE THIS FACILITY NEED TO TAKE CARE OF THE SCHOOL.

SOMEONE OR SOMETHING IS RESPONSIBLE FOR SOME OF THE DAMAGES.
A WINDOW CAN’T BREAK BY ITS OWN.
A CHAIR CAN’T BREAK BY ITS OWN
A DOOR CAN’T BREAK BY ITS OWN

    AND THE LIST GOES ON

To say that the building is 6 years old is misleading and mischievous. The construction started since when the UWP was still in power. At one point the incomplete structure was left to the mercy of the weather elements. After a long winding process it was opened incomplete. I agree that the students may have contributed to some of the damage but we also have to remember that the project was downscaled and even the quality of materials used was compromised.

keep the student out as Mrs Henderson did and have proper security on the school. Teachers monitor the student propertly. Have the student to sit in the Auditorium before class sessions. break let them assembly down by the canteen and if a child is in the court yard have a teacher supervisin. case closed. Our people needs to appreciate what we have. the same thing happened at St. Andrews. the student and the community distroyed the school. give glo a break please get off her back.

Gloria is very correct when she says the school is 6 years old . THe biuldings however are 15 years old and gloria knows that . She was an excellent english teacher so she is playing with the less educated minds. The school is made up of the students not the biuldings. Get the point.
Its a shame however to seat their and let her people get second or third class treatment just for a few piaeces of silver . Nothing last for ever thats the only hope some of us have.

the words of gloria Shillingford is the same thing i said last night in my comment here in my own words, the school is 6 years old there is no way it should be in that condition if the teachers and students were taking care of it, although the government should be blame for not having a maintainance person at the school.

Gloria, I am personally disappointed with your comments and your attempts to mislead the public. It is difficult to respect you as a parl. rep. when we all know, and you included, that the money was not used to repair the physical structure and this structure is older than 6 years. Remember that you will be held accountable for your unschooled utterances and though you have said you are going to be a one term parl. rep. we would appreciate a bit of truth, if not honesty in your utterances.

Shillingford You Know better than that the school is six years old in a the uniform that the students wear not in Structure, both you and i Know that that structure took years of Weathering. then six months Before a new school term Paris Was Rushed to complete tiling and other areas, to move MFH OR what was formerly MSS and the institution you fought to keep away from your Adventist Compatriot leadership St Andrews into it, and can you explain what the 50,000 was for, if you cannot hear are just a few of the failed attempt to shield a regime that has Neglected the Education of the North eastern Citizens, it was for adding extra Classroom blocks in the Auditorium which the initial plans never catered for it was for Adding part the Technical Block which is UN-Equipped little of that fund went into the defects Correction of that 15 year old weathered Building some of it went into the Arbitrary destruction of the Security Booth out from that Unemployed and Frustrated School Leavers of your Constituents filed on Weekends so wen you come making statement like Peter St Jean Doe have Voice be straight

I graduated from the St.Andrews high school in 2003 and i can remember that the students who graduated two years before me were suppose to be the first graduate from the New Facility, which at the time was almost completely built. I can also remember taking walks with my agri class to that facility and seeing buildings already up, Mrs.Shillingford was my principal at the time. so how can she claim this….Mrs. shillingford needs to give Petter St.Jean a chance to address the situation and stop making a fool of herself.
