Prime minister, Roosevelt Skerrit, has pointed out that government’s assistance to the less fortunate is not motivated by votes or getting votes.
He made the disclosure at a ceremony to mark the 40th anniversary of the existence of the Alpha Center on Monday morning.
“When this government that I have the honour to lead help people I am not motivated by vote getting,” Skerrit stated. “I am not saying if I get the votes that I will not take it, but that is not my primary motivation.”
The prime minister stated that Dominica is not a rich country but the government has the responsibility to help those in need.
“This country is not a rich country. We do not have a lot of money in the treasury contrary to what people think,” he said. “And the tax dollars which we collect every day is not sufficient to run the affairs of Dominica. But that does not mean that the country does not have a responsibility to its citizens especially the voiceless and the less fortunate.”
Skerrit told the ceremony that the monthly operating cost of the Alpha Center is going to be a thing of the past as it is going to be part of the next national budget.
“I want to say to the Alpha Centre that come September the challenges which you had in putting together the resources to operate this very important institution will be something of the past,” he said. “As minister of finance I have ensured that in the budget coming in July you will have the full operating cost and this will be for as long as the Alpha Centre is operating in Dominica.”
Furthermore, the prime minister said, government will provide transportation and uniform allowance to the 37 special needs student attending the school.
“I will also ensure in the budget, which I promised when I visited you, a transportation grant for every student who attends here and a uniform allowance to every student,” he stated, pointing out that the transportation allowance will be similar to that provided to government scholarship holders.
At Monday morning’s event, over 40 certificates of recognition and appreciation were given to the many that have in one way or the other assisted the Alpha Center through the years.
Among them were the government of Dominica, numerous private citizens and companies including J. Astaphan and Co. Ltd, the Elias Nassief Foundation, O.D Brisbane and Sons.
A 40 year anniversary magazine was also launched.
The anniversary is being observed under the theme: Celebrating 40: A Beacon of Hope.

Oh Rol
I am in total agreement with you.
Francisco Telemaque appears to be using DNO to publish his books.I have previously commented on the overly lengthy comments from Francisćo but he continues in the same mode.DNO please save us from Francisco Telemaque.
Who are you a nobody without a name to talk about someone with a name: I have written a book, and simply store it on a shelf, I am into a second one. If I wish my book published, I do not need DNO to publish it. I can spend my money which I worked for to publish as many books as I wish.
I do not have to beg, or anything like that to publish my books, I have my personal resources to accomplish that, I take care of my needs wherever they arise!
Secondly, if I need a Website to publish any book, or write on daily I can have one built any day of the week. I maintained my personal Website for more than twenty years,; I closed it last year. have you ever heard of http//www.yvonnedods.com, that was the domain of my site. Shut up you idiot!
You do not have to read my comments, simply pass them all over, pretend you did not see my submissions, I would not have seen your crap, had you not mentioned my name, as far as I am concerned you are an nobody!
Francisco Etienne-Dods Telemaque
yea yea, sure sure, and fishes can’t swim
Honestly this is a good gesture but the education officer is now asking small preschools with one teacher to close down, what happen to Early Childhood Education for all? where will our poor children be? on the streets? exposed to being abused? Alas! take control of the preschools we know the importance and those of us in the small communities have needs too.
This is a typical example. Everything is on the back of the government. Is there not a few D/cans who could operate a non-profit school for early child education and which the government could subsidize?
oh really? you sucking too much milk …it’s time for change!
To be a leader is very hard u do people talk you do not do and they still talk so what u do continue to do good
And let them talk
Go on PM go on we love u
UWP geting too so what is the great debate about
The man is just loving
Spread the love mr PM
Yes preacher, spread the money.
Like $500,000 was given to use the pulpit as a political platform.
Where is your love and generosity, primarily all for the love of God? You will pay for this someday.
2 Corinthians 9-6-10 – God’s Indescribable Gift – Consider this: whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. Each must do as already determined, without sadness or compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. Moreover, God is able to make every grace abundant for you, so that in all things, always having all you need, you may have an abundance for every good work. As it is written: “He scatters abroad, he gives to the poor, his righteousness endures forever.” The one who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will supply and multiply your seed and increase the harvest of your righteousness.
Wow, a nice manager who was employed without a wheelbarrow to his name, becomes a millionaire while the company is recording losses and accumulating massive debts. Now where is the company profits going?
So is loans they taking to get rich for the less fortunate to pay back? Is wicked allu wicked because you know the country not rich but you taking loans all over in the millions. Garcon just go and repay all those loans you took and stop playing Santa before elections.
I’m so upset. That day should have been all about the Alpha centre, the kids and all the good people who do such wonderful work, day in day out, giving themselves selflessly and anonymously. The assistance is welcome but this should not have been hijacked for the glory of a politician who gives money that is not even his own and in any case was promised long ago.. That is so sad. All the praise should go to the Alpha centre.
“The prime minister stated that Dominica is not a rich country but the government has the responsibility to help those in need”
I do not know that there are many Dominicans that will disagree with such sentiments, nevertheless, that help should not be limited to the diehard supporters of the Labor Party alone. There are Labor Party supporters who are receiving anything they ask for; or demand. Meanwhile, there are needy people who has reached out for help, and were ignored.
The people they ask for help; say I will help you, however, they never kept that promise. Indeed a politicians promises is a fools pleasure!
Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahah!
Mr. Prime Minister, there is a way of doing things, if you are really serious about helping the poor, the best way to accomplish that is to make it legal by setting up a welfare system where the unfortunate can go and apply for welfare; let there be a welfare line. The taxpayers of the country I am sure would not mind contributing to such a program. I came to America a healthy man, found me a job in a matter of days after I got here. I worked a few years before I had an accident on my job at Whyle Laboratories, where I worked. I was incapacitated for a very long time, by which time I collected my unemployment, when that ran out, I collected State Disability, when that ran out, by then my wife got tired, and decided to divorce me.
All of my savings went into making my Mortgage payments on my house, when that became depleted, I had no alternative than to apply for GR (general relief) that is going on Welfare. Because of that welfare system, I was able to survive without begging, until I received a huge settlement via the workman’s compensation system, which got me back on my feet to this day.
Yes indeed, I collected welfare to survive, so who want to laugh go ahead until it happen to you, and by the way, children who are born in certain hospitals here before they are discharged from the hospital they becomes a recipient of WIC, which is from the same welfare system!
It is alleged that there are poor people showing up at some place, where they were sent to meet with you, where you simply puts your hand into a draw and pull out some money, and hand it to them. That is not how it should work; that system of giving is political, there is undoubtedly a political motive behind that system of helping. My comments here may anger you, nevertheless; that is the way I am; I am outspoken, and my outspokenness usually offends people. If it is broken, and I can repair it my business is to repair the broken component. There are people who will smile in your face, and let you believe the way you are helping is great, however, behind your back it’s something else.
If you want to be respected by the nation you lead, there should be no halfway measure. If there is a welfare system in place, all our citizens will have the opportunity to benefit from it. The way it is right now; many are called but few are chosen, and believe me Mr. Prime Minister, I have first hand experience, I know people who are literally hungry, and suffering right this moment in Dominica. As recently as Saturday someone reached out to me for some help, it was late. At 9:00 A. M. this morning I went to the Bank and got some money and wired to that person, all day I am trying to call home to give someone a coded number so that they can go and collect the money, all I am getting when I dial the number in Dominica, is that “all circuits a busy try your call later”). It is 8:00 P. M. Los Angeles time, I am worried about that hungry person.
If there was a welfare system In Dominica Mr. Prime Minister, that person would not have to depend on me totally for help, and that person is not the only one there are others I help too. I seems obligated to help from time, to time! Let us get it right. Someone is a public school teacher in our country, the man got beaten by a student, it turns out the individual could not even afford to pay for an Ex-Ray, the man is employed by the government, why has the government not provide insurance for it workers? Let us get it right Mr. Prime Minister, a welfare system would be the appropriate thing to get organized in the not too distance future.
Francisco Etienne-Dods Telemaque
Why your comments are soo long, all the time. What about short sweet and to the point.
Oh Rol
I am in total agreement with you.
Francisco Telemaque appears to be using DNO to publish his books.
I have previously commented on the overly lengthy comments from Francisćo but he continues in the same mode.
DNO please save us from Francisco Telemaque.
I am not capable of short and sweet; I have to detail what I say in order it can make sense. See, I am very brief here: you like it?
I don’t
Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahah; oh me, oh, my!
FET.
Well, that is Francisco for you. Suffers from chronic verbal diarrhoea. Can’t help it old chap. As soon as he opens up he can’t stop the flow.
You know, sometimes when I read the comments on DNO about Dominica and Dominicans and I hear some of the statements made overseas about this country and the people who live here, I say to myself which country are they talking about? Not the one where I live and have always lived?
Barbara, here is the problem with; one and three sentences; I do not know what you are referring to when you say; “I say to myself which country are they talking about?” (Barbara Saunders).
“Not the not the one where I lived?”(Barbara Saunders).
The reason I fail to understand your comment is because it reference nothing; good nor bad. Assuming that people are making claims that Dominica is the most developed, and prosperous place on the planet, if you have evidence to refute that; commented stating the comments are true or false, your comments might be more understandable.
If the people in question said Dominica is the worst place on earth, and you wish to counter their opinions by presenting an argument to refute, or repute their argument, perhaps I would not be responding to your comments, be specific, there is nothing written in your submission which is informative in anyway, you simply made a closed comment, of which you are the only one who knows what you are talking about.
Francisco Etienne-Dods Telemaque
Ms. Saunders I am glad you like Dominica as I do, In fact I love it.
I don’t know which part of Dominica you live but may be it is sheltered away from the daily grind and poverty most of our people experience. No offence to the people, who live there but I would invite you to go and live for a week or so at Pond (right at the back of Mr. Skerrit’s office), Gutter and so on. I understand that we don’t want to advertise that for tourism but that is real life for a lot of our Dominicans. Closing your eyes and holding your nose does not make it go away.
Well written comment but Mr. Skerritt will not take your advise he is too busy planning how to win the elections. I wonder why. He said he was taking the 21 seats the next time around after the general elections in 2009.
My eyes have seen the glory of the coming of the lord.
Smiling faces sometimes pretend to be your friend
Smiling faces show no traces of the evil that lurks within
Smiling faces, smiling faces sometimes
They don’t tell the truth uh
Smiling faces, smiling faces
Tell lies and I got proof
The truth is in the eyes
Cause the eyes don’t lie, amen
Remember a smile is just
A frown turned upside down
My friend let me tell you
I’m telling you beware, beware of the handshake
That hides the snake
Listen to me now, beware
Beware of that pat on the back
It just might hold you back
Smiling faces, smiling faces sometimes
They don’t tell the truth
Vote The Devil Out!
You have made a beautiful poem with the truth.
I like that. I really like that.
LETS SPEAK THE TRUTH AND SHAME THE DEVIL.
Skerrit came to kill , to steal and to destroy. Who he think he fooling?
The best assistance Skerritt and his DLP Gov’t could give to the Dominican people, especially those who are marginalized and made poorer, is to get off their backs.
Dominica could do without a Massa, a new colonial master. The country and its people have be impoverished over the last decade. Their standard of living have plummeted. Meanwhile, a few of those in power, have become excessively rich on the backs of the people.
Skerritt has yet to address the burning issue of Electoral Reforms. He has said nothing. The Cabal has rendered the “Independent” Electoral Commission almost obsolete. Heavy political influence has caused the Commission to accept what the Govt. wanted, NID Cards, instead of Voter ID Cards and to clean the bloated Voters’ List.
The main concerns of the people now is FREE and FAIR elections. The elections will never be FREE and FAIR without those reforms that the Commission recommended almost 9 Years now.
People want to be gainfully employed and not be treated as beggars. Skerritt wants Dominicans to think is Papa-God that give him the money to share. In fact, in his fantasies, he says so.
Again, in that instance, the Welfare Division has been disrespected and not allowed to be the institution rendering the services of assistance to those really in need.
I respect you comment, of which you are entitled to but there is something you need to know there is a difference between expectations are facts, especially your personal expectations. You made a lot of references regarding the electoral reforms, most of which shows lack of understanding. It seems the idea you have formed regarding this issues comes from the UWP recent attack on Electoral Commission,You sound like a Parrot, this shows the symptoms of taking the blue pill, how sad. Your remark that The PM has yet to address the issue of Electoral Reforms, conveys a lack of understanding regarding the issue. The Electoral commission has made a Public statement regarding the issue. There is a commentary on DNO The law and sanitizing the electoral list by Francis Charles. Educate yourself, be an informed voter and not be mislead.
Mr Hon. PM are you for real with such statement about votes. Even the blind, deaf, dumb and cripple know that all these things are meant first and foremost for votes. If you are a catholic please go to confession. In this time of year, even those your intentions are noble, they are politically motivated.
If they were not politically motivated, tell them don’t vote for you. Tell them the choice is there to vote any party… You all never speak like this, you all continue to play politics with everything in Dominica………
Imagine Christians are there listening to this statement which is filled with terminological inexactitudes. Go To Confession before you receive communion next time you go to church…. whoever your confessor may be…………
One Love PM
So then it must be the secondary motivation. Tell them again, go say it on the mountain. Soon you will say God told you to say that on the mount.
Mr. Skerrit tell us Dominicans just how many young Dominicans can ever own this Pharoah house you have in your constituency? Dominicans wake up and stop making this innocent smile fool you all . this guy is getting richer and richer by the day. Never have I seen my Chinesse shops in Roseau as now. Where are our local businesses?
A government who claims to be doing so well yet our economy is crumbling and they blame it on world economic crisis. have you seen what our ministers been driving?
Roseau South( Ambrose)- Nissan 2014 Navara, $165,000
Roseau Central( Alo)- Mitsubishi Nativa, $90,000
Mahaut( Co-par-wa-con Backmoore)- Honda- $90,000
St.Joe( Kelva)- Mitsubishi ,$90,000
Capucin( Reggie) Toyota Hilux- $165,000
La Plain( Pepper)- Nissan X-trail- $120,000
Does that look like a bad economy with our ministers?
Dominicans wake up!!!!
Mr prime minister …I’m happy to read what you said about dominica …..you know dominica is a poor country ..with little money …..you said you not giving handsout for votes ..you said you helping the needy ..no you are not….Mr pm ..you are give hands out for voter ..yes ..you see dominica is a poor country ..why give one man five hundred thousand dollars …you gave it to him so that he can bribe the congration for their votes for you …Mr pm you need to stop n find grace …you will go to hell …please..do the right thing for the people of dominica ….that’s whybrid the people put you there ..I support you before ..but now I’m gonna pull you down ..enough is enough ..you are not the god of mishak and abedmigo ..you got to goooo……change is a must …
Our PM moving forward , for the people, by the people, and not even them workers of iniquity can remove him there.
A hater is a hater and some people only want his job for their friends and family. Skerrit is the PM and he is a good man. Who doesn’t like him is just setting up themselves for regrets and dissapointment from the other party. You all got too much freedom of speech.
Go to CUBA or VENEZUELA where there is NO FREEDOM OF SPEECH.
vampires that is the style of this administration
Parry, I would ask Skeritt, why is it those favors like the ones given to the Catholic Church and the Alpha Centre are not given to the Grotto Home. I would also remind him of how passionately he speaks of the yes we care program. Those senior citizens at the Grotto Home can also vote.
True dat. If he gives to the grotto home after reading this. I want an article written on that by dno. Hypocrite must be exposed.
Just to prove your arrogance look at the words you uttering at the Alpha Center…..we know you not buying votes……..you buying sympathy.
Next time when you hurt people with your nasty foolish talk ask for forgiveness from those you obviously hurt……..doh go playing good samarritan with Alpha center people to buy sympathy…..on your high cloud………like some god-sent disciple
Giving under privileged people sheets of plywood and 2×4 studs every election cycle is what……..every 5 years is dat i deserve? plywood and 2×4?
de tax dollars that is collected cannot do nothing for Dominica?
So where and how can you justify giving half a million dollars to de Cathedral in Roseau….i get from you that this wasn’t tax money
So where did that half a million dollars come from????????????????
A special government fund?
How much will it cost to deal with de termite infestation at de Marigot Hospital? More than half a million dollars?
Is de Catherdral reconstruction a bigger/higher priority
de health of the Dominican citizens
you and de bishop are sick…….don’t lie to me about priorities
We the people of Dominica have to take the blame for what we allowed PM Skerrit to be doing to our lovely Dominica and it’s people enough is enough and now we have decided to make some changes we have to take back our Island we cannot keep going down the wrong path we have to put up a stop sign to him,,regardless if we live in D’ica or in the diaspora we as a people we love each other .
Better make it worth the effort.
Wow, Why all this animosity. Nothing in Politics is to be feared, but only yo be understood, now is the time for you to understand more and fear less. When you listen to Linton when he speaks do you ever get the impression he is buying sympathy. When Joshua Francis had his picture taken with The Loubiere fire victims recently and said quote “he is going to do everything in his power to assist” did you ever get the impression he is buying sympathy. The money donated by The Government for the reconstruction of The Cathedral, do you know who first openly suggested such idea, The Hon. Provost did it ever cross you mind that he was buying sympathy when he made such suggestion. Politics can do strange things to the mind.
Skerrit is finally declaring Dominica dead broke and bankrupt. Read well people! Let the Doubting Thomas’ bury their heads in shame now.
HE WOULD SAY THAT, WOULDN’T HE?
In my book real charity is given without fuss or fanfare. but no, the focus has to be, once again on our P.M., playing the great benefactor with money that is not his own. wonder what the Good Book has to say about that.
Ok Skerrit, since Dominica is a poor country and the tax income is not sufficient to run affairs, how can you make matters worse by giving away money that the state has not really got? This entire nonsense is unfair. If you give one you have to give all! Can you afford to do that? No, you can’t! So, you only give to the one’s you choose to give to. Once again, you are acting like a true Dictator…
Which ever way you try to sell us your BS, you cannot do it anymore. We are wiser than 5 years ago and you have not learned any new ‘tricks’!
If most of you knew the students the Alpha center deals with there would be no opposition. It is a good idea for the government to fund them and ensure that their needs are met. Let’s not relate it to other things, but instead be happy for them and the families of these students.
YES to the Alpha Center, NO, NOT THAT MUCH to the Catholic Church. YES to the DISABLED and those who are really IN NEED, NO, NOT to those for a VOTE.
Are you (Skerrit) now admitting that Dominica is a poor country Sir?
TRUTH CRUSHED TO EARTH WILL RISE AGAIN!
Clear sign, that Skerrit and the Labour Party are confused and need to be KICKED OUT!!
I actually believe Skerrit. The vote catching gimmicks may be inspired by his handlers but his idiosyncratic largesse is motivated by an insatiable hunger for recognition, gratititude, adoration even to feed an ego that can never be satisfied. He can not envisage a world where he is not the centre of attention and sulks and gets upset when he thinks someone else steals the limelight.
I don’t know what to make of that but that is what I see. Am I the only one?
Dominican people live above their means to much and then they blame the government for everything. You people stop those expensive lifestyle you cnt afford.
JOJO….what the hell you talking about….are you for real?
What lifestyle……ohhhhh I know the VILLAS……the mansions in Bobwa…..all the ministers and dem riches….that are ones benefiting.
Jojo, tell that to Skerrit
If it’s not motivated by votes then just resign as Prime Minister and allow someone else to continue!? Mr. Pm you love getting votes as there is concrete evidence that you recruit persons with offers of money to come from overseas to vote. There is concrete evidence that you don’t want electoral reform. Who are you trying to fool? We are tired of all this hardship on Dominica. The ship is sinking and it is time for a change.
I know that there is not a lot of money in the treasury but there would be a lot more if the government would go after the upper class people in Dominica who are owing taxes. Case in point… those who own the supermarkets (most popular supermarket) and other biz and have been owing the Inland Revenue for over 25 years. You all can terrorize the poor and middle class to pay; go after those who are owing thousands and millions. DNO, I KNOW WHAT I AM TALKING ABOUT OK?
I hear every election time people from outside are brought in too vote. Every government gets the same heat. I don’t mind that the ministers look good to represent the country as long as they can show that they care about the people. Our economic situation is from outside pressure too. Else our local entrepreneurs would be functioning high without government assistance and everybody would be looking good. DA have its blight especially as first world people see us as frogs, in an environment where we citizens must strive for what we want. Hard work, perseverance and patience. Public service employees wont make it better if they had more money, they will only do their best when its their turn to move. Skerrit aint bad. Lazy, selfish, greedy, racist and oppressive Dominicans are who make the system hard.
B LION
I have never read such complicated rubbish before.
Try again please, what is it ou are trying ot say.
Dominican hard working people.
I wonder if the lake of FIRE will be hotter for people like that! You mean every single word coming from his mouth has to be a LIE like that?
Stuppessssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss!
You are not God. Leave the judging to God. If he is lying then he will get his just reward – God will make sure of that. Like Christ told the people who condemned Mary, look at the mote in your eye first before you condemn others. We all have our issues, and we all sin, and in God’s eyes no sin is bigger than the other. Instead let me pray for each other as a people.
If we would follow your reasoning we would not need courts, let people do what they want and let God be the judge. No police, no judges, heck we would not even need expensive lawyers. Don’t know what world you live in but I live in a real one, where people are judged, convicted, or acquited and sentenced by their peers.
General Elections are to be called soon. Coincidence one, $500, 000 were given to the church which had started its renovation approximately two years ago. Coincidence two, the Alpha Centre is forty years old, Skeritt has been Prime Minister and Minister of Finance for approximately ten years, he has decided to upgrade his responsibility. Coincidence three, their will be a reduction in cabinet Ministers, after the elections, should he win he will go back to same. Coincidence four, two months before the General Elections, Public Servants will get increases of 2%, 3% and 3%.
stupes
You a the one that’s a Stupes because you refuse to see the facts , that do not mean you have to stop supporting your PM but ask yourself when something is wrong it’s wrong regardless don’t be blinded and stop disrespecting yourself for any human been just to get handouts, and if your condition under DLP have improved don’t you believe it should be the same for others don’t want your friends and relative to enjoy the goodness of life… Change is here but you wouldn’t be left out all I ask think for yourself.
pantalon sur le feu!
Hey rasta, if you must use cockeyed french use at least the correct preposition, “en feu” ” instead of “sur le feu”.
For those who were bla bla ing when people refer to Dominica as a WRETCHEDKY poor country, here is Skerrit saying the same thing in different ways. Let me add the main reason why the country is so miserably poor is the poor management that it has gotten from 2000 to 2014. Imagine a minister of finance who cannot even understant basic economic parlance, but the same minister is taking economic decisions on behalf of the nation!
THAT’S WHY CHANGE IS A MUST.
HOW LONG?
NOT LONG!
Notice the comments that are receiving thumbs down?
More charitable donations while Civil Servants are asked to be understanding of the economic situation…..PM… I hope you included our 10% salary increase in the budget tooo!!!!!
But why exactly is Skerrit so scared nah.? This has been going on for so long, only now you want to tell us about it? We know all about it Skerrit. Those who have gotten $$$$$$$$$$$$$, especially the YOUNG AND STRONG ONES always had their story to give to someone. What they had to say to their master, how they had to dress, the amount they got, if they got more than they expected, if it was for the purpose etc. if they returned for more, etc. WE KNOW IT ALL SKERRIT!!!!!!!.
I just find it darn malicious and wicked that peoples tax money in such a poor, badly bruised and badly managed country is being used by one man to buy votes so that he will perpetuate himself in power. IT IS INDEED A SHAME, AND HAS TO STOP SOON!!!!
HOW LONG?
NOT LONG!
When you hold on to such beliefs as you do for so long it keeps you from feeling the pain you are most afraid of to deal with, which is growth. Where is your reason.
A hater is a hater and some people only want his job for their friends and family. Skerrit is the PM and he is a good man. Who doesn’t like him is just setting up themselves for regrets and dissapointment from the other party.
@Some come I am one who do not like his inept and callous mismanagement of Dominica for sure. He has turened you and thousands more into beggars, and i am not pleased with taht
well done pm well done!!!
@ tech, to turn Dominica into a poorer country than it was u saying well done? U cannot be serious, sounds like allu from hell.
I am reminded of the great Lebanese poet, Khalil Gibran who wrote: ” There are those who give little of the much which they have – and they give it for recognition, and their hidden desire, makes their gift unwholesome!”
Mr PM, search within yourself as I search within mine.
very wise words and very apt
Yeah right. You can fool some people sometime but you can’t fool all the people all the time.
Dominica is not a rich country. The question is are you Mr PM a rich man? And sir, the help people need is finding jobs not hand outs
surely at such a function the PM should be praising the people who have worked tirelessly for years to ensure the alpha centre is what it is today – instead he using it as a moment to score political mileage? Same thing he did at a church service – talking about public works on pulpit?
A time and place for everything and everything in its place and at its time PM!
Mr Skerrit – if you were not doing certain things to score points you would have the designated ministers making certain announcements – for example, alpha centre should be under the responsibility of the Social Services Ministry or have you taken over that ministry as well?
Our PM doh have no class!
For what else?? Sure is not for love, Skerrit thinks all Dominicans are as stupid
We are not trying to malign our P M but would like him to stop setting himself up for ridicule.
He really needs to consider his language before he speaks!
He needs to revisit the English language!
The country may not be rich, but certainly, it is alleged that the politicians are rich and continue to do very well while the poor gets poorer and cost of living higher.
Grand Bay Yard-fowl
You have flagged up an issue which is causing a lot of conjecture! How have these people and their families and friends amassed so much wealth on their salary?
This is a truly baffling one!
@Grand Bay Yard-fowl
The country is one of the poorest in the region, but a few GREEDIES are filthy rich, AND ARE THE RICHEST IN THE REGION.. It is about time they are exposed, and tested in the approved way.
They steal and cheat every living soul with breath!
They are ‘VOWAS’ and inconscionable.!!!
HOW LONG?
NOT LONG!
It would help your credibility if you could post a list of all the assets of the government ministers and their salary . Then post a list of all the members of opposition and their salary followed by the same information for the ministers in all other Caribbean Islands.
– IPO has that information…except from those who refuse to cooperate.
– don’t you think we have enough troubles of our own without putting our noses into other islands affairs?
Typical tactic of diversion, it wont work. Today we have people on the ground, who are aware of that an know how to counteract. No fear.
Yeah, and while u at it, plz put up the assets that Skerrit had right before he entered Parliament because unlike Linton who owns his vehicle and house the PM did not own even a book cover to drive fly.
Anonymous
I suspect our fellow Dominicans are being mean to our Dear Prime Minister.
I believe that our P M won the Euro lottery millions anonymously!
Of course there is no other way that such colossal wealth could be amassed in such a short period of time and on a Dominican minister’s salary.
I would like to suggest that we all play the Euro Lottery and win win win!
The PM is the one who is setting up himself for negative comments every time he opens his mouth maybe he should think before he speak
stupessssssssssssss. who you think you fooling
Congrats Alpha centre. Happy 40th birthday. Great work for the children with special needs
Nothing is motivated by votes or getting votes for the young leader. Not even giving away free travel tickets for the sole purpose to go home and vote, is motivated by votes. Such disclosures are nothing new, and they won’t get old once the lies continue. By now we all know “actions speak louder than voice.”
With all the promises, promises, promises by one man, makes you wonder who is who and how can we allow our beloved country run as an estate owned by….?
We know and support government assistance for the less fortunate should always be first on the social welfare agenda. The idea to keep mentioning responsibilities as above and beyond is disingenuous and silly.
Lougaoo Mem
You have forgotten some of the so called incentives of
pieces of galvanize to patch up homes, ply wood, quick unsuitable patching of roads etc…..
I am not sure that the P M made this statement, i think he was inadvertently misquoted!
I believe you are genuine Mr. Prime Minister.
So was the DLP under Patrick Roland John
So P.J. did (…does) not have an Ego then/
Yah right
That’s my PM! Always see a need, and something important to do. GOD bless the Government of the Commonwealth of Dominica. Always seeing a need!!
Yeah he always seeing the need to constantly lie.
Now who said gov’t was not to help the needy, you wicked man? What is the problem is the way you do it to buy votes! I so wish we lived in the days when God struck down sinners, thieves, liars and wicked and evil people on a whole.
I have spoken to the PM several times and i think he have a good heart but he have some of the wrong people in his circle. I am not saying he is a saint but i honestly think he put the less fortunate first. Some of the people in his circle he have to let them go because they are all about getting rich on the backs of the poor. If you want proof take a look at the water project in Amba and lower Penville.
are you for real???
You are to say the least naive. On whose backs did Skerrit amass all that wealth??
What about it?
NYPD
Actions speak louder than words!
Then if it is not close all red clinic and other such programs and let the responsibility go through the welfare department as was instituted by previous Parliaments.
One hand we do not have money and then the other we can give church 500k.
Who are you trying to fool.
…and the reason for giving a church 1/2 Million $$$$…
…and the church could simply write a letter to Rome Head Office where all the gold is stored up and get a measly 1/2Mil or more. Taxpayers again bare the brunt of so-called charity or is it really taxpayers money being dished out? Why use taxpayers as an excuse? Now if it really is taxpayers…why are we suffering when most of us are not member of that church?
the primeminister speach is just small cheap the people in this meeting looks confuse and tired if i get the votes i was so close to you sir but you lose whenever and each time you open it
Mr. Prime Minister, please get yourself a copy of The Prince (by Machiavelli) and then let’s talk.
This is politics and there is only one motivator in that game, and that is power. Every move a politician makes is designed to keep him in power.
Nobody is saying that what you do cannot be of benefit to the citizenry, but when all is said and done, you have to be the main beneficiary in the end. That is how the game is played.
The ones who pull the strings behind the scenes read and are reading intently “The Prince”. It says a leader can be bad but he has to do is appear good.
A Big Phat Lie!!!!!!!!
