Island scholar Denzel Guye claims that his recent success at the CSEC Exams was expected because of hard work and and consistent academic performance.
The confident young St Mary’s Academy (SMA) graduate got ten ones and one two, having attempted eleven subjects at the exams last sitting, as was announced earlier this week.
Guye admits that he was initially ecstatic but now that the news has sunk in, the novelty has worn off but does commend the assistance of his parents and teachers.
“I expected it because I knew I had worked hard and I knew God was at my side. My parents were supportive throughout and they encourage me as I went along the way and my dedicated teachers at the St. Mary’s Academy were really helpful. They took from their personal time help us until we sat the exams,” Guye said.
He mentioned Mrs Elwin in particular, who taught him Accounts and Information Technology, for her efforts.
Guye intends to study Mathematics and Economics at the Dominica State College before pursuing further studies in Computer Science or Information Technology. He is yet to pick a specific career, however.
But it’s hardly all work and no play for Guye. He is a member of the St Alphonsus Junior Choir and the SMA Steel Orchestra. He also enjoys playing basketball and video games, his favorite being Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare.
He urged students who are in preparation for future sittings of the exams that they should remained focused.
Guye suggested, “Study hard. Work hard. Be prepared and pay attention. Be consistent in your schoolwork.”
Guye achieved ones in Biology, Chemistry, English A, English B, French, Information Technology, Mathematics, Physics, Principles of Accounts, Principles of Business and a solitary two in Spanish.

A truly laudable achievement Denzel, all the more praiseworthy as you also participate in sports and cultural activities.
With such outstanding academic ability, choose a career that you are passionate about, so pursuing it never becomes a chore, just a joy.
The very best to you and your parents.
Congratulations to you. Diligent work and study always win in the end. You are a model to others who are specifically presently attending primary and high schools.
Good luck in your future studies and undertakings.
St. Alphonsus in the house, Woop woop.
You rock.
Congrats!!
Congratulations to you young man, Mr Denzel Guye, to your parents and staff of SMA. Keep up the good work.
PS: This kid has tremendous potential. Since he is the island scholar, why don’t we send him to one of the best schools in the region, hemisphere or world where he can major in computer science or information technology and simultaneously minor in mathematics or economics (his choices). In that case he wouldn’t have to interrupt his studies and would achieve his goal in 4 years or less. Great schools have great advisors and guidance counselors. Who knows; with top grades in Biology, Physics, Chemistry and mathematics, this kid can be a great neuro-surgeon. Ah, don’t worry. That’s just my fantasy.
Incase you are not aware. DSC offers both I/T and Computer science. The young man getting a scholarship for dsc.
@ anonymous, a scholarship for DSC??????that can’t be right now, can it?…….it’s a scholarship for where ever he decides, I’d like to think.
