The University of the West Indies (UWI) Open Campus Dominica, in collaboration with the Cultural Division, will host the Third Annual E.O. Leblanc Memorial Lecture on Tuesday, October 28 2014 commencing at 7:30 p.m. at the Fort Young Hotel Conference Room.

This year’s presenter, Justice Dr. Irving Andre, will speak on the topic: “E. O. Leblanc: A Rendezvous with History.”

Justice Andre is Senior Judge of the Superior Court of Justice in Canada. He has also authored several books about Dominica’s people and important events.

The lecture will provide a contextual and historical analysis of the qualities and policies that have cemented Mr. Leblanc’s reputation as one of most distinguished and extraordinary leaders of the Eastern Caribbean.

The lecture, which is free and open to the public, will provide an opportunity for guests to listen to the speaker present for about 40 minutes.

Following the presentation, guests will be able to interact and to generate meaningful discussions about the influence of the topic on the Caribbean region.

The E.O. Leblanc Memorial Lecture forms part of the events scheduled for Dominica’s Independence celebrations.

My neighbour likes to make cake but they never taste good. Not everyone who likes to do something can do it well.

Well said Africo. He was certainly not the founder of the aforesaid, even if he encouraged free expression among other things. Interestingly, you are the only contributor here, so far, who has spelled his name correctly .

DNO Please advocate, on our behalf, to the Organizers (West Indies (UWI) Open Campus Dominica, in collaboration with the Cultural Division) to have the lecture streamed live on internet and or broadcast on Radio.

We know that all things come with costs but I truly want to participate: if only by being able to hear the lecture – more so he was my 1st Form CIVICS Teacher at SMA in 1978-1979 but more importantly the significance of E. O. Leblanc contribution to Dominica and to raising the consciousness and new identity of a Nation.

PLEASE DNO PLEASE ADVOCATE THIS REQUEST ON MY BEHALF – and on behalf of other Dominicans outside of Dominica.

ADMIN: We will contact the organizers and hear what they have to say of your suggestion.

Excellent ! Wish I were there . One of these days this will be streamed. Things such as Village councils and Trade Unions in DA were all his idea. He once said that if you cannot serve the people you must leave. Truly a remarkable man !!

I have a great deal of respect for Le Blanc, but for accuracy sake, Village Councils and Trade Unions came long before his time in office.

He may have given Local government prominence but he found them already there when he took office…..and in the end it was the Trade Unions that gave him the most stress!
