DeeVa Deals, an E-Shop operating in the Kalinago Territory, has partnered with the Mayil Nicholls Foundation Inc. to provide a student from the Kalinago Territory with a scholarship to attend high school for the new academic year.
DeeVa Deals started operation just about a year ago and according to proprietor Dee Sanford the support has been tremendous and she wanted to give back.
“The support I’ve received from the Kalinago community and Atkinson has been tremendous and I felt obligated to give back as my way of saying thank you,” she said. “When I put out the idea on Facebook, I was skeptical that I would receive any support. However, Nevil Nicholls of the Mayil Nicholls Foundation Inc. instantly contacted me and said they were interested and wanted to be part of this.”
The Mayil Nicholls Foundation Inc. is a non-profit organization which promotes sports and sporting activities especially marathons; their most recent being the Horse-Back Ridge Marathon which took place in the Kalinago Territory two weeks ago.
The scholarship is based on need, as well as satisfactory academic performance at the recent Grade Six National Assessment. It will be for the period of one academic year in the first instance and will be continued based on satisfactory academic performance throughout the 2016-2017 academic year.
DeeVa Deals and the Mayil Nicholls Foundation Inc. intends to continue the scholarship program for as long as possible.
At the graduation ceremony of the Salybia Primary School last week, Dee Sanford presented Joshua Frederick of that school with the first scholarship.
She encouraged him to embrace the opportunity, remain focused and be the best that he can be.
She also urged other small businesses to give back to their communities in whatever way possible.
Joshua Frederick and his family also expressed their gratitude and enthusiasm.
Joshua promised to make “good use” of the opportunity presented to him.
Great Job Dee and Nevil Nicholls, big up to you all, keep up the good work, love it
Very well done. Congratulations. Is there more information so others can help to contribute with that programme? How can someone help a child who needs scholarship? Is there a web site with information so others can assist? Especially those who do not resident in the community.(people who are overseas might also be interesting in providing assistnce) Also not able to find information on DeVaDeals.
Respect to you and what you are doing Dee. Wonderful!!!
Positive vibes Dee, keep it up!
I thought Mr. Skerrit was suppose to take care of that? As per his election promise the the Kalinago?
Sit and wait for Skerrit to do things for you, you will stay CRA NAN.
Finally, forgive me but I find you a bit backward on this one. We are talking about a Great Dominican here. DEE STAFFORD!!! Like Dee, we all should do our bit for our Country and stop thinking that Skirrit is God, and that he has to come to your house to do your laundry for you. Big up Dee.
Very good initiative by this young lady.
Very good gesture. Lets get onboard my peeps and see innwhat other ways we can contribute.
