Dominica’s leading telecommunications provider LIME is demonstrating its commitment to supporting young people and their contribution to culture and the calypso art form.
Linking the importance of culture and education to the overall growth and development of young people, the company is ensuring that the main prizes to the winners of the junior monarch competition support their educational goals simultaneously.
At the prize giving ceremony of this year’s competition held at the Calypso House in Bath Estate on Saturday, a Lenovo laptop accompanied by one year free internet went to three-peat Junior Monarch Sheldon ‘De Professor’ Alfred of the Saint Mary’s Academy. Debutant Chelsea ‘Princess Chels’ Prince of the North East Comprehensive School who emerged 1st runner-up will enjoy the features of an all-in-one desktop computer and six months free internet service from LIME.
The prize of a Motorola handset went to Janae Jackson who came in third position.
The Leo Club of Dominica has been staging the Junior monarch for a number of years with LIME coming on board as the main presenting sponsor for the last four years. Since the formation of this partnership with the Leo Club, LIME has worked with Daryl Phillip and Chester ‘Daddy Chess’ Letang to provide voice and stage presentation training to the competitors.
A record seventeen young people participated in this year’s junior monarch competition which formed part of Dominica’s Carnival calendar of activities headline sponsored by LIME.
THANKS… to Leo Sabrina C.. the fundraising chair person… for quite a large number.. its a record for true.. (17 participants)… probably her charm persuaded the schools’ principles in having their students participate. I understood there would have been more (like 23).. but since they wasnt quite ready for this year show they will be taking part next year. Hope the next fundraising chair can keep up with this large number.. A job well done to the Leo Club of Dominica.. especially Leo Sabrina C,,
