The Mahaut Primary School has emerged winners of the Primary Schools Bin Painting Competition, one of the activities organized for Tourism Awareness Month 2011, an initiative of the Discover Dominica Authority (DDA).

The results were announced, this morning during a prize-giving ceremony at the Windsor Park Stadium, immediately following the judging of the designed bins. The students representing the winning school received a whale watching tour with Anchorage Hotel and Dive Centre.

The Soufriere Primary School placed second and the students will receive a Thursday night dinner and entertainment at Anchorage Hotel while the Roseau Primary School placed third; those students receiving a lime at Anchorage Hotel to include pool bathing, snorkeling and lunch.

The schools participating in the competition were Mahaut Government School, Roseau Primary School, Goodwill Primary School, Christian Union Primary School, Soufriere Primary School and St. Luke’s Primary School

Marketing Executive of the DDA, Daphne Vidal, remarked that the initial aim of the competition was to provide bins to the school, and reinforce the Reduce, Reuse, Recycle theme.

She said, “We selected six schools initially in the Roseau District and the intention is to extend that to include all the schools in Dominica.”

Participating students will also receive a tour to the Kalinago Territory compliments KHATTS.

Paint for the competition was provided by Harris Paints Dominica Ltd and the judging of the competition was done by Ms. Katie Julien, Mr. Earl Etienne and Ms. Tiffany Burnette-Biscombe.

congrats to the Mahaut School and am just reminded of how elated we were 26year are go when we fist received school uniforms and our school song.
the song said at the time: Mahaut School is the best O yes we pass the test, we have a principle who is the best of all, every body is now in uniform and with teacher the pupils conform, with pride and dignity and so much unity we move to prosperity.
    and the song goes on.
once again congrats Mahaut School is the Best, and keep up the good work.

Well done DDA!! get the kids educated at an early age of the importance of safeguarding our environments agains pollution.

i was well in my thirties before i received my first frown from a foreigner no less for throwing a bottle on the roadside. it did not compute that someone had to pick it up later and if left unattended the mess i was helping to create.

also very please with the level of what i hope is the artistic talent of the kids.

    I AM DOMINICA!!!
