The Marigot Development Corporation (MDC) with its Education Consultant partner Versan Educational Services of Jamaica, has proudly secured scholarships valued at $1.3-million for Dominican students to study in the United States.

This was done through its three-year-old ‘Study in the US program’.

The program targets students under 17 years old who are eligible for entrance at a US Private Boarding School.

Students are facilitated in preparing for the entrance exam (the SSATs), selecting schools, applying to the schools and obtaining the scholarships.

Michael Pascal, Project Coordinator, said the organization is very pleased with that level of success so early in their programme.

He attributes a great part of that accomplishment to the young students who successfully obtained high scores at the SSAT.

The scholarship awards ranged from 70 percent to 95 percent of the total cost of Tuition & Board at these Private Boarding Schools.

He is confident that if the students continue to excel at these elite boarding schools, they will be able to gain scholarships to continue their education at some of the top ranked colleges and universities in North America.

The students came from the North East Comprehensive (NEC), Portsmouth Secondary School (PSS) and St. Mary’s Academy (SMA).

All four students in the program received substantial offers of Scholarship.

Preparation of the next group of students for the Private Boarding School program begins in September 2014 and MDC/Versan expects to see a doubling of the financing it can secure for students in 2015.
