NDAPU to hold National Quiz Competition on June 23

As was reported in an earlier post, the National Drug Abuse Prevention Unit (NDAPU) in seeking to fulfill its mandate by significantly reducing the demand for drugs on the island, held a quiz competition amongst Secondary Schools.  This activity was held in commemoration of World No Tobacco Day (May 31st) with the majority the questions were tobacco related. The keenly contested competition was done in three clusters and targeted first form students of the participating schools.

Cluster One comprised students of Pierre Charles Secondary, Castle Bruce, Goodwill Secondary and the Dominica Community High School. The Pierre Charles and Castle Bruce Secondary Schools “cupped” the top positions with a total of 150 points each.  The remaining schools each had a total score of 120 points.

The Dominica Grammar School, St. Mary’s Academy and the Nehemiah Comprehensive constituted Cluster Two.  The Dominica Grammar School and the St. Mary’s Academy secured the first two places respectively with a total of 220 and 175 points. The Nehemiah Comprehensive School obtained 165 points.

The third cluster was held at the Youth Skills Training Centre in Portsmouth and was made up of these schools; Northeast Comprehensive, Portsmouth Secondary, Isaiah Thomas and Dominica Seventh Day Adventist Secondary Schools.  The Northeast Comprehensive and Isaiah Thomas Secondary will both secured the top position with a total of 160 points whilst the Portsmouth Secondary got 150 and the Dominica Seventh Day Adventist Secondary 130 points.

On June 23rd, 2011, the 1st and 2nd place winners will engage in the national Quiz competition.

The NDAPU takes this opportunity to thank all the participating schools for their sustained efforts in fighting the drug scourge at home, school and community level through the continued collaboration with the unit and other agents for change in our society.
