NYC expresses relief at the recovery of Shanice Jemmott

The staff and executive of the National Youth Council (NYC) of Dominica would like to express our great relief and profound joy at the recovery of Miss Shanice Jemmott from her abductor.

Special thanks to the Dominica Police Force and all those who assisted in the search for her, persons who assisted in raising awareness and also to the persons who prayed for and with her family and supported their efforts.

To the parents and all the other members of her home circle and the extended family, we will continue to keep you all in our prayers and pledge our continued support to your family.

Let us all be empathetic at this time and remember that Shanice’s healing and recovery has only now begun.

We encourage all parents to be vigilant and aware of their children’s activities and whereabouts and most importantly to foster good dialogue with them, keeping in mind the golden rule ‘Do unto others what you would have them do unto to you’.

We do also ask the general public to respect the rights of Shanice and her family through this trying period. Let us all continue to work together as we bring comfort and help to restore some peace in the lives of her family, friends, schoolmates and community.

Really happy that they found this child.

St. Lucia has just opened a rehabilitation facility for OECS young girls who have been sexually abused or otherwise and I think that the Government should look into having her sent there for rehabilitation, not a psychiatric ward.

can someone in Dominica make that suggestion to the relevant authorities.

No one said she needed psychiatric treatment. She needs rehabilitation, she needs her family, and most of all she needs to be careful.

Thank God Shanice is back with her family. I do not condon the act because she is a minor, but while everybody is giving their piece, there needs to be a complete investigation into what might have caused such a situation to occur. There is alot that we are not and will never understand. An indepth investigation into that matter will have some astonishing revelations. Some people need to start pinchng themselves.

atleast they tried…we all kno d/a doesnt hav the most efficient police officers or equipment but they worked hard and they found her and we should be grateful and stop criticizing them cuz i’m sure u were not in the bush lookin for her

Wonderland why get angry.. If you think you could have gotten her earlier.. why did u not try and why blame the police especially since you seem to know where she was .. Then why be angry.. Why make a mountain out of a mole hill by just talking. Talking does nothing.. Who allowed this situation to happen. All this talk and blaming is not going to help this poor child … trop parler.. now is thanking the Most High for allowing the police or who gave the tip to rescue her . Great talkers are just that they are not doers and what does talk do but put the person on alert… So you understand now why sometimes we talk too much.

That child needs a PSYCHOLOGIST at the moment… But im of the firm opinion that with the proper care she will get over this ordeal successfully..

ok these 2 last post were mistakes. stored and pasted dindn’t realize.

wanted to say that the young lady should not have been placed in the psychiatric ward unless it was necessary. visited this place for 15 minutes and i almost went crazy. this is einough to send any sane person insane…and comming from her ordeal…..
these mentally ill patients comming up to you..doing all sorts of things..don’t know how the nurses hande it.
placing her there could be doing her more harm than good.

Tinyy, I agree with your argument. One can not be placed in a psych ward after whatever she just endured. Psychiatric care is for crazy people, that child is not crazy. Putting her in a psych ward will eventually make her become crazy. Who’s suggesting a psych ward anyway? Do they even know what psych means? I guess not, if they did this would not be the suggestion they would make. I’m glad she was found alive. I’m happy for her family. They, the family, need to keep a close eye on her.

don’t think thanks should bergiven to the domincan police force.
they did a very lousy job. she should have been found much sooner if they had only informed the public about the identification of her alleged abuser. even after he ended up missing they kept it a secret. maybe he would have beeen identified much earlier if his identitty wasn’t kept from the public.

Trop parler pas bon si they did not keep this secret, Shanice could have been dead. Put on all you thinking caps .. Dominicans like to talk so much sometimes they don’t realise that they are even talking and aware of what they are saying! Think before you speak, analyse what you say can cause. Now all should be thankful to the Most High and since this is a sensitive case, keep our mouth shut before we say hurtful things to worsen Shanice’s situation. Have a heart LOL

they were under a topoline…i’m sure he didn’t remain there from the time of his dissaperance. he could have been identified and followed. i guess the police didn’t dwnt anyone else to find her, they wanted the praises.

Tinyy – read your comment again – did u hear yourself that the police did not want anyone else to find her , they wanted the praise. You serious with all that cr*p you taliking .. give you and the others like you who talk without thinking the alleged abuser and you all would talk so much that Shanice would probably be dead by now .. The abuser would be on the alert. Think before putting mouth into gear.

On another note they did a lousy job .. guess you could have done better so why did you not do better? Instead of now commenting when she was found and now is thanking and gratitude time to our Father .. All this talk and talk won’t do anything to help the young child in her recovery.. Love time now and all mouth shut!

People like you never cease to amaze me. Next you’ll be saying that they wanted the reward for themselves.

On one hand we could say that the police kept alot from us, but if we are rational we would understand why. Many a time have I heard the police say that they cannot give the public to much info, incase it jeopardized their investigations.

His identity was not kept from the public, his picture was posted along with Shanice’s, and many wondered why their pictures were posted together.

Lets just hope that Shanice gets all the help that she needs.
