The Pierre Charles Secondary School (PCSS) is highlighting its outstanding performance in this year’s Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC) examinations.
8 students from the PCSS are among Dominica’s 42 top students obtaining at least 6 ones in this year’s examinations.
Elisha Titre, the 2013 Student of the Year, obtained 10 grade ones and 1 grade two. The other top performers include Lizette Elie who obtained 9 grade ones and 2 grade twos, Gordon Royer – 7 grade ones, 4 grade twos and 1 grade three, Dean Desiree – 7 grade ones, 2 grade twos and 2 grade threes and Joseline Alexander – 7 grade ones and 2 grade twos.
Also putting in top performances were Andric Moses who was the head boy of PCSS. He copped 6 ones, 2 twos and 2 threes. Chelsie Francis and Jervez Laurent also obtained 6 ones. Tyrell Alexander got 5 ones and Naiel Noel received 4 ones.
This year, PCSS saw a record number of students writing 10 or more subjects. For the first time, three students wrote 11 subjects and four students attempted 12 subjects in one sitting.
The school registered a 74.7 % success rate at this year’s CSEC exam, a 9.2% increase over last year’s performance. The percentage pass rate in 11 subjects increased over last year’s performance. 8 students wrote Economics for the first time at PCSS and all were successful. There was a 100% pass rate in Clothing & Textile, Economics, Food & Nutrition, Geography, Principles of Accounts and Biology. 9 other subjects registered a pass rate of 80% or higher. This year, there was a significant increase in the number of ones, twos and threes obtained over last year’s results with the number of ones increasing by 100%.
According to a PCSS release, “a combination of the dedication and commitment of the students, hard working staff and supportive parents are some of the factors that contributed to the school’s impressive results this year. Many of the students had a drive to do well and decided to maximize their full potential by taking up extra subjects in the afternoon. The teachers supported the students whole heartedly by going over and beyond the call of duty just so that the students’ wishes to do additional subjects would be fulfilled.”
The release adds that “PCSS can boast of many gifted students, as was evidenced in this year’s CSEC exams and many exceptional teachers.”
Clementina Laurent of the PCSS was awarded Secondary Teacher of the Year at the 2012 Teacher of Excellence Awards. Another teacher at the school Irvin Jackson, was recently awarded the first Phenomenal Male Teacher of Excellence Award and Walson Pacquette was named the P.E. Sports Teacher of the Year for 2 consecutive years.
“PCSS is certainly stamping its seal of success in Dominica and will continue to do so,” the release concludes.
I am so proud of the students especially my chem students. You all worked hard and did your very best! I’m proud of the grades but your hard work and determination made me happier and even more proud of you. Remember the little tips that I gave you about college and Chemistry at a higher level. Everybody happy with how the teachers and that principal push the work. that principal self like a motor behind you. almost all our students leaving with at least 4 subjects and that is what matters. according to the principal self ” everyone must experience a level of sucess’ and we see it this year. So to all at CBSS thank you, The few who pass two and three go and ask Mrs Alfred if all you can go back in Form 5. It is not many of you and trust me if all you try hard she will take all you. she does feel sorry fast.
Thanks to Edison James and the UWP for having the vision to build such a school.

Wonderful! Hats off to all involved in the collaborated effort, students, parents and teachers. Being a product of the South, Bagatelle, to be exact, makes me very proud of the students. We can achieve, no matter the school. With the support, dedication, determination, confidence, we can definitely break barriers. PCSS, you have proven to the Nation, like the student at Concord Primary that we can certainly do it, once we try our utmost best. Wishing a successful future to all students. One Love!
Congrats PCSS students, parents and teachers! It’s ur day.
i am sooo proud of my school:::congrats to all; well done: congrats to the staff too; keep it up
Well done PCSS! Congratulations to everyone, particularlly, Dean Desiree and Tyrell Alexander
Congrats to all, but I have a rhetorical question.
How do D/can students, in general, perform on the internationally recognized SAT and Advanced Placement exams? This is not an irrelevant or disrespectful question since most Dominican students continue their studies at American Colleges and Universities. Still, are there any SAT preparation centers in Dominica?
Have you been following the news for the past decade?? Dominicans have been demolishing international exams, such as, SAT, City n guills, and even universities in the US..
Dominicans have been demolishing international exams, such as, SAT,
Thanks for that. And how wonderful our small island nation continue to produce brilliant scholars even in the age universal secondary education.
Caribbean students perform very well overseas. For example, at MSU in Texas, Caribbean students (many Dominicans) have won every department and university award there is. The GPA is the best of any group every year for the past 10 yrs. Quite a record eh?
Bravo PCSS. This is definitely cause for a celebration.
job well done to all of you,you will be rewarded greatly.
Way to go Pierre Charles Secondary. Congratulations to the students, parents and staff. I know for sure there are some very dedicated teachers at Pierre Charles Secondary, So I am happy that their labour was not in vain. Teachers, please continue to ensure that you excite your students in the classroom. Your motivation will show in the methods you use to facilitate their learning. I also exhort the students to remain motivated because self-motivation is one of the keys to success. CONGRATULATIONS Pierre Charles Secondary!
Congrats to all the students who excelled at the exams. Hats off to the dedicated staff at PCSS who work hard to ensure that the students excel. Well Done PCSS! Continue striving for great things #Proud
The Principal and teachers must be proud..
Boy….i just love to hear that. I actually shivered when reading this. LOOK ONES!!!!!!!!!!!!
My sincere congratulations to all the top performers. You have done yourselves proud. You have also reinforced the point that success is not just up to the school, it is also up the students. Students can achieve anything, anywhere. Keep up your level of motivation and always remember that you are as strong as you believe you are.
Congratulations. Your success is admirable. The sky is the limit. I believe that a major educational record is about to be birthed by the students of Dominica in the coming year. We have just scratched the surface. On another note thank you for giving the explanation on the acronyms used in your article. It makes for a better learning experience for your readers who are not familiar with the Dominica jargon. Thank you.
I am so proud of you guys. To the staff and students keep up the great work
congratulations PCSS. Great job
Congrats to the kids of PCSS. Keep aiming high!
Congratulations to the students, teachers, parents and well wishers who work behind he scenes for the success of the school. Students, as you step into the future remember the sky is the limit. Teachers, the greatest reward for your hard work is the excellence exhibited by the students and not the salary that you receive. Sometimes you get slary and can’t smile, now you’ve got great results and its all smiles. Parents, you have a God given responsibility to your children, afford them that right. My dear daughter (Kelda) I can say without a doubt; that you’re among very dedicated staff at PCSS. Pierre Charles might have been forgotten in the memory pf many, but today the world will know that his legacy continues at the Pierre Charles Secondary School in Grand Bay. CONGRATULATIONS ALL!
Stps @harolda all ppl like you hav no faith in the school thats why you chose to send your daughter to convent this clearly shows children can do well no matter where u place them ……….congrats to my dear students i personally know hw many hours of hard work u all put in and now you are reaping the benefits
Sorry you can’t genuinely share in the praise. Instead you’re offended. It is people like you who talk badly about the school and who do not put in a fair day’s work for a fair day’s pay. I can choose to send my children where I want as long as I do what I have to do and not depend on you. If training my children to do what they have to do is a problem for you, then too bad. Try carrying out a survey a the school and you’ll discover how many children I have helped and continue to help. May the Lord be with you!
congrates to you all and continue doing the gooood work….this year we uppp and it will continue…
Congratulations to all students and staff. This is very positive for Grand Bay and the south in general. Keep up the good work.
WOWOWOWOWOOWOWWWW…i’m so excited. that’s great. congrats to PCSS teachers and students; Proud of my former school and workplace….

Outstanding! Pierre Charles. Kudos to the Students, Teachers and Parents who continue to work hard.
Congratulations to all who excelled, in particular Chelsie Francis, Jervez Laurent and Andric Moses who are from the community of Petite Savanne. Indeed we can overcome obstacles and bring forth productivity. Continue the good work guys. God Bless.
Congratulations everyone….. You made us proud… These students were always dedicated and focused I expected nothing but greatness from them
Way to go PCSS!! Well done teachers!
