The Police Organization for Youth Development (POYD) has made a donation of EC$1,580.00 to the Education Trust Fund.
Former POYD members, Dr. Rhea Olivacee and Dr. Sophia George and POYD Leader, former Police Commissioner Desmond Blanchard made the presentation to Director of the Education Trust Fund, David Phillip, at the Cornwall Street offices of the Ministry of Education and Human Resource Development recently.
“The principles we learned as POYD members contributed to the success we enjoy today. Many of us have gone on to be lawyers, doctors, teachers…Today’s occasion is a testimony to our continued commitment to invest in the youth of our country, as we support the endeavours of the Education Trust Fund,” Dr. Olivacee said.
Director of the Education Trust Fund, David Phillip, told the handing-over ceremony that the donation from POYD would provide students with much needed assistance to continue their education at Dominica’s secondary schools.
He commended the group for the value its members had placed on education and said it was important for the Education Trust Fund to assist in providing educational opportunities for others.
“We need to make the public undertand how important it is to make education available,” Phillip noted. “Especially with the example of the graduates of POYD who can come back and say thank you or add to the education trust fund, I think we can one day achieve full educational potential for our people.”
The Education Trust Fund was established in 1981 through an act of parliament to assist students experiencing difficulty attending secondary school.
The Government of Dominica provides a yearly subvention to the fund.
All I want to know is how this guy became the Director of the Education Trust Fund…we does just put people in position without doing due diligence…weh weh weh hm smh
Is POYD really still existing or is it just a figment of Blanchards “hanging onto something” imagination.
Now maybe these kind doctors who are both my good friends will find it in their heart to give just about $500 to $1000.to the Chief of Police to reconstitute the real POYD. Dunce as i am i was a senior member of POYD and still interested in having the real article. Off course i appreciate their donation to the trust fund.
they are alumi members. the article failed to mention that it’s the group of alumni members who donated the money. no figment of anyone’s imagination. stay connected
