Randy Frederick in desperate need of help

Frederick

Relatives, friends and well-wishers of Randy Frederick, of the Carib Territory, are seeking assistance to meet expenses associated with an emergency surgery.

Frederick’s plight came to national focus when local media house Marpin 2k4 visited his home and interviewed his mother about his condition. She said that he has been in constant pain since a tumor was discovered in his head in March 2010.

The tumor has Frederick, 19, in constant pain and his condition has worsened within the last week. After many painful days at the Princess Margeret Hospital he is expected to be flown to Barbados today after doctors agreed that emergency surgery is necessary.

With the assistance of Ross University School of Medicine, the National Youth Council and other agencies, Frederick and his family have been able to raise some funds to meet the costs associated with the surgery. However, more is needed.

In light of this, a call is being made to the Dominican public to rally around this young man and his family and support his cause. Anyone interested in assisting should call 1-767-317-4944 or 1-767-315-5892.

An account has been setup to deal with Frederick’s additional expenses while in Barbados.

Call and give your support.

I just read a comment, someone said haitain come together and help each other, yes, they are foreigners in dominica, they are on thier own, it fall on politics, if dominicans have to pay all thier little saving to help each and every one for medical, where is this country heading,If a country don’t have proper medical for young & old. you all lives are in problem, medical is first prefrence & jobs opening and every things come down the line. Watch you government, not only roads, and so call investers, with no benefits for the people of Dominica.ONLY FOR THIER OWN POCKETS.OPEN YOU ALL EYES.

This should not have been this way. I read alot of comment from dominica.for a medical condition like this, your government, your country should have fun for such surgery, prime minister a cheque should be sent to barbados medical centre in aid of this young man. We are out there watching, Natural disaster is different for seeking outside help. do better for your people, when a person works there are socail benefit, unemployed you recieved aid government must help, only if proud dominicans are on the same level scale as Haiti, and you all don’t know. Dominicans don’t be fool. you all are not fools, natural disaster is different. medical is the government, what happen to tax payers money. I will be writing to DNO, TO FINE OUT ABOUT THIS MAN.Haiti, Santo- domingo, there government don’t give a shit about then,Trinidad, gayana, Jamaica, they do recieve some government assistance it do take a long time. it is very sad.

Some comments here focus on politics rather than medicine. Randy has a problem than needs urgent attention, and this is the main reason of this news and comments. However, once Randy´s problem will be handled appropriately, we should consider to further discuss, but not on politics. We should discuss on AWARENESS: what we can do to improve the health care situation in Dominica. Otherwise, soon or later we will have new cases of people with severe health problems in Dominica, that will need financial help of everybody again, and the estructural problems of Dominica health care will be the same, with no improvement.

dominica government should set aside funds for health emergencies for families in need instead of keeping it to himself and spending dominican money on himself. shame shame shame that this young man is in need of money and the government will not pick up the bill

What government have to do with that? Just now allu will ask g’ment to buy toilet paper for allu to wipe allu a. Yes, there should be a better social system for people living under poverty but government is not responsible for the life of every individual under their influence (that would be a dictatorship)…Dominicans need to stop blaming politics for everything, wake up and take responsibility for allu life

It is the government’s responsibility to provide a better health care system. I am not sure what the government of Dominica is doing for the people because there are issues in ever sector.
If buiding roads is what’s important then where do you rank the health and education of the people?

People shouldn’t talk politics when comes to this,..yes d/cans should have health insurance but do you really think that most our people can afford it…the government should pay for it all of the expenses why not the pay for other things that has nothing to do with saving a life..we cannot replace a life but we can material things…..if I had the money to pay for his expenses I would……..god bless his family and friends for reaching out for support!

Ivited my country in august 06 and had m.v.a on the coast road just before Picard.I suffered a broken neck, the treatment i got was appalling, between portsmouth hospital and the P.M.H,portsmouth had no X Ray set up so i had to be transported to the PMH.Ihad to pay up front for the Xray. I was told by DR Breedy as having Massive whiplash .I was discharge without as much some pain medicine. Two days later i visted a specialist who told me i had broken my neck at the c-5 c-6 veterbrae,in the doctors words i should have dead or paralise from my neck down.He could not understand why i was sent home that nite .I s Dr Breedy still at he PMH?HOw many people has she miss diagnose or who have died under her watch.I had to pay for an ambulance plane to get me to St Thomas U S V I that cost me $5000USD to there and i had to do that on my own from the hosipital bed at P M H,without any help from the government or the hospital. The cost to me was$82000 usd If i could not afford it i dont know what would have happened to me.It pains Dominicans are treated when it comes medical assitance.Remmember Yankee, Mr.B O Robinson who was treated like trash at the PMH.Here Mr Skirrit building is a $27m president palace while people are dying ,or have to seek intensive care over seas and have to be trying to raise funds for that. When is he going to build a modern hospital too serve Dominicans when they become seriously hurt or sick? Its time we stop sending our funds to Barbados or Martinque.Dominica has to many brilliant doctors working all over the world Why dont we try to get them to come home and work, not the chinese doctors who cant speak our language.Dr.Breedy i hope God will guide you.You are one of the worse doctor i have ever dealt with And the in the nurse E R who told me to bear the pain or go back too the U S A where i belong, she was having dinner in the Emergency ROOM that was first for me .Eating in the E R.Lady fire for u.Young man god will provide a way for u pray and keep your .faith god bless

Don’t want to sound insensitive here but D/cans on a whole need to think about health insurance. I know it may not be affordable for many and even so, not all procedures are fully covered; but at least, the insurance would cover some thing. Why does the government have to help in every situation – if this is the case then the gov’t should introduce some national insurance scheme – most likely to be funded by taxpayers’ money. I am not a supporter of the ‘Red Clinic.’ I personally believe this is just a way for the PM to bring attention and popularity to himself. Why not implement some welfare program; then it would be established by the gov’t for the people and not by the PM for the people.
I pray that this young man is able to get some assistance and have a successful operation. I hope this story and similar ones highlight the importance of having some form of medical insurance.

Please my good people of Dominica do not send him to Barbados. Please collect enough money beg the Government for help which they have a right to with emergency as serious as this and send him to Jackson Memorial Hospital in Florida.Just last week I was reading the barbados newspaper the Nation, when I read how the doctors butcher a woman from Guyana with the same brain tumor now her family is beging for help to send her to the US since they take all their monies and the tumor is still there. Please tell the family just jump on a plane to Miami go to the hospital they must take care of him.

I would also consider a private hospital in Europe to treat Randy. The Institut Gustave Roussy in Paris is among the best for cancer in Europe. Funding is the key issue. I hope all the best. Check this website: http://www.igr.fr. It´s in French and English.

    • Conscious
      November 30, 2011

How is his family to afford going to France? Already, they do not have enough money for the operation in nearby Barbados and are asking the public for support. How do you know that the tumor is cancerous? The news story does not say so. You must read carefully.

      • Xavier Farre
        November 30, 2011

There are direct flights to Paris-Orly from Martinique and Guadéloupe. IGR is 8 km from Paris-Orly airport. If Randy´s current quality of life is not so bad, he could travel.
As I said, getting enough money is the problem to overcome. I´m sure Randy´s family doesn´t care the cost of the treatment in this moments, if they can cure Randy. That´s why many people are trying to help here and giving the support they can.
What exact tumoral type Randy has? Is it a low grade astrocytoma? If so, chances for curation are high.
The IGR website is there. It is not a waste of time to check it. It´s free.

      • Xavier Farre
        November 30, 2011

Brain tumors in young men can be curable if they are low grade, which happens frequently. They must be treated because they grow into the brain and cannot expand beyond the skull. That´s why even being low grade tumors can produce severe headaches. On the other hand, brain tumors that affect the talamic area, can produce very severe headaches than cannot be relieved with painkillers. This tumor needs treatment. With the collaboration of all the people here, we need to help.
