Range Developments, the developer of luxury projects in the Caribbean,is delighted to announce the creation of 50 scholarships of $1,000 each for students from the island of Dominica to help them pay for their studies.

“Education is the single most important thing one can give a young person,” said Mohammed Asaria, Vice Chairman of Range Developments. “We are delighted to be participating in this project, we have a robust corporate social responsibility programme and look forward to closer links with the people of Dominica.”

The initiative was welcomed by government officials.

“This shows the partnership that we have with Range Developments and their willingness to give back to the people. That’s what’s good for us right now and we really have to cherish it,” said Dr. Colin McIntyre, Minister for Planning, Economic Development and Investment.

Range Developments recently began construction work on the Cabrits Resort Kempinski, a 160-room hotel,in Douglas Bay close to the town of Portsmouth in the north of Dominica. This is the first development under the country’s Citizenship by Investment Programme. Investors can obtain citizenship of the country by purchasing a share for US$220,000 in a limited partnership structure.

Such citizenship programmes are widespread not only among the Caribbean islands but also within Europe and the United States, and are aimed at encouraging foreign direct investment. Investors not only have a chance to invest, but assuming they meet the stringent due diligence, receive citizenship of the country, which allows them visa free access to more than one hundred countries.

This is Range Development’s second project in the Caribbean, following the launch of the Park Hyatt St Kitts, due to open within the coming months. Park Hyatt St Kitts is employing more than 600 people during construction, and has been described by the Honourable Dr Timothy Harris, Prime Minister of St Kitts & Nevis, as “a model development for the country”.

Most Dominicans and specially the labourite supporters who are blinded by politics only, are just like their leader. A chicken; a chicken dabbling in every gutters for crumbs.

Why are black people so easy to fool?
    Fifty thousand (EC$50,000) dollars?
This is a disgrace and an insult.
Money to pacify foolish labourite simpletons.
One thousand dollars from a multimillion dollars developers?
Dominicans are an embarrassment to me.
Reminds me of Columbus and Cortez handing out cheap trinkets to the natives before taking their lands.
Dominicans are now the modern day version of the Indians.

    August 23, 2016

Of course. Certainly enslaved again and again and again and again. Many do not care whether they are enslaved again by those foreign companies, facilitated by and in company with greedy, selfish locals, who only see $$$$ in their eyes.

History has shown us in Dominica the modus operandi of those Companies. The failed Layou River Hotel project still haunts us all, up to today. The deplorable Morrocan hotel in Portsmouth is another.

It was Skerritt’s DLP Gov’t who gave Range our prime land, 15 acres at CABRITS National PARK. Plus our passports too, wi to make millions. Many Dominicans do not care whether their land is taken from them.

Where is the Environment Impact assessment (EIA)? Has Planning any power in that?
How many of our passports have they sold so far and how much money have been raised. for that Range Development hotel, on our 15 acres at Cabrits? Prime land taken from us by Skerritt’s DLP Gov’t and given to Range Dev. Scholar-goats we…

  5. Enslaved again and again
    August 22, 2016

Whose Fools are Dominicans? Skerritt and his DLP Gov’t, black brothers and sisters, in 2016, went to Parliament, amended the Laws, carved out 15 acres from our Cabrits National Park, and handed all of that land to the foreign firm, Range Development. Skerritt’s DLP Gov’t also gave Range Development our passports to sell to raise millions for their hotel.. All that, on the backs of Dominicans. Deals we know nothing about. The only beneficiaries will be those who sell our passports, the foreign Co. and other locals involved in that deal.

The project is in the interest of Range Development and their ilk. The millions being made from the sales of our passports going to Range Development, not to Dominicans. Hotel, if built, not Dominican owned. So after Dominicans are bamboozled, our 15 acres stolen from us Dominicans to give to Range Development, passports selling, millions making, they coming with their scholarship.

WHOSE FOOLS ARE YOU? ENSLAVED AGAIN AND AGAIN?

You mean the same Range that is building the hotel in Portsmouth? You mean the same people who some novice said is not going to build any hotel? You mean the same hotel people who sticky fingers said is fooling the people of Dominica because they not going to build hotel in swamp? U mean them same people that is giving 50 scolarships to Dominicans? I wonder how theses people feels when they make them kinda foolish sicken nonsensical statement when they see the reality in their face? But the have no shame so they will do as always (speak and then think).

    Unfortunate to say the list.

Yes NUWP the same reality right next door is the Morrocan Hotel that cant be completed after five years of commencement. NUWP it is tthe same Layou River Hotel after the case in the BVI was won and by virtue of the government 51 percent shares was to have started, up to this day, 8 years later can’t even start much less finish. NUWP is fools like you who can’t see that Range has yet to invest anything substantial. Dominica gave the land, prime land, we gave them more than enough passports to sell to cover the cost of the project. Its no wonder that they can turn around to give 50, 000 fund scholarships. What you don’t realise its our own money. People like you with your eyes wide open still can’t see the daylight robbery and fraud taking place here instead you treat it as heaven sent. NUWP you remind me of someone who gives his watch to another in order to tell you the time; you become so elated and excited that you forget its your watch he uses to tell you the time. How…

keep them poor and stupid by dropping crumbs in their poverty/alabaster jars while taking their prime land i.e a UNESCO designated national heritage park and strip them of their nationalism and identity by selling their passports to all taliban and criminals, then use that money to build hotel and live fantasy lifestyles while dropping crumbs of $1000 to them in fake scholarships. The saddest thing when people are poor and depraved it doesn’t take a whole lot to rob them blindly, then give them thier own stuff as trinkets while the criminals are fattened and over bearing. Poor people will say “thank God” and what better group to target than those barely able to help their kids, but having big dreams for them. They will ultimately defend their saviours. This is Ridiculous… $1,000 Scholarship per student. the ticket only is over $1,000..why not just divide the $50,000 among 10 Students in that way it will cover help one semester… We need to rethink things before doing it too look good.

The Scholarship is a good thing but believe it would have been more effective if it was given to 10 deserving student at least 1 from every parish to be fair..

D N O that is false, the U S does not give u prime U S land, and U S passports to sell to come invest in the U S . So stop with that nonsense comparison. And while on the subject what ever they build in ports mouth , should be owned the dominican people, and all profit should go to the Dominican people because it is their land and their passport

Good stuff. As we all know, foreign direct investment is hampered by high electricity rates imposed by Domlec and their neglect of our hydro potential in a land of many RIVERS. I like Colin, I don’t know why, but the guy should be heading AGRICULTURE maybe? At least have a Doctor in there to show Dominica is putting some emphasis on feeding itself. Oh well..

“Range Developments recently began construction work on the Cabrits Resort Kempinski, a 160-room hotel,in Douglas Bay close to the town of Portsmouth in the north of Dominica.”

DNO, after reading this brilliant article I am left with the following questions since they were not addressed in this article:
1.What is the cost of the 160- room Cabrits Resort Kempiski hotel?
    2. Did the government of Dominica give the Range Developments company passports to sell for the hotel? If so, how many?
    3. Did the government of Dominica sell the land for the Kempiski hotel, or was it donated to the company? If so, how much?
    4. 50 scholarships @ $1000 dollars each? How many passports that amount is equal to?
    5. Does. Dr. Colin McIntyre and / or the government have any interest in the company?
    6. Looking at the photo above and given their record in St. Kitts, wouldn’t it make more sense to have them build the new PMH hospital?

Just asking because my name is, I WANT TO KNOW
